Another quake in Scotland
Isle of Mull earthquake compared to low flying jet
  • 2 hours ago
An earthquake with a magnitude tremor measuring 2.1 has hit the island of Mull.
The tremor was recorded by the British Geological Survey at 22:31 on Friday.
The BGS tweeted: "A small number of reports have been received by members of the public in the Isle of Mull area. One described 'Like jet suddenly appearing low above house'."
The largest known earthquake in Scotland occurred near Loch Awe in 1880, with a magnitude of 5.2.

I was on my postal delivery this morning in Northwood,Middlesex. I had to knock on a door at 10am and I felt a shaking in my feet for about 3-4 seconds. When the customer answered she asked me if I’d just felt a tremor which I confirmed.
I’m not sure what it was. There are no major construction works going on in the area so it wasn’t groundwork being prepared. I’ve searched online but can’t find any reports. Very strange.

A particularly heavy train or lorry going past?

Definitely not a lorry , I was about 15 metres from the road which leads onto a roundabout near the house. Most of the traffic is static at that point. Maybe a train , the nearest staton is about 200 metres away but the freight trains only run at night. There is a fast train that goes through occasionally but I’ve never experienced the tremor before.

We’ve had chinooks flying over the last couple of days but I’m not sure if they are related to the Trump visit. The NATO Allied Maritime Command is a couple of miles away from where I felt the tremor but I’m not sure he visited there. Chinooks fly over Northwood fairly often and I’ve never “felt” their noise.
I would have heard the chinooks if they were flying over and I would have seen a convoy on the road.

NATO were probably giving a demo of their new earthquake weapon.

Ha, nothing would surprise me there. I had a friend who worked in the post room there and he had very limited access to to different areas. He said the some of the bunker rooms had their own armed guards at the doors. There’s some monster sized Alsatians patrolling around inside as well. You wouldn’t want to try and get inside without permission.

The running list of UK earthquakes maintained by the British Geological Survey:

http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/earthquakes/recent_uk_events.html

... lists no recorded seismic incidents since 30 November.

The BGS listing of human-induced tremors:

http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/induced/recent_uk_events.html

... also lists nothing for today.
But does it show up on the charts ?

If you go to the above link, Click on 'Monitoring', then 'Real time data' You will get a list of the monitoring stations.

Select' STAN' and 'short period'.

You will notice that there is a break in the readings at 10.03 UTC.

This isn't a very reliable recorder. Try some of the others in the area.

Greater London isn't very well served with monitors.

Also try ELMS.

Somerset homes shaken as 3.2 magnitude earthquake strikes

An earthquake has struck in the west of England, causing homes to shake in several villages, the British Geological Survey has said.
The 3.2 magnitude quake's epicentre was close to the village of Huntworth, Somerset, the BGS confirmed.
Residents reported the "whole house rattled", with another another saying there was "big rumble and [the] house [was] given a definite shove".
The quake hit at 22:49 GMT at a depth of three miles (5km), the BGS said.

Worldwide tremor that 'MOVED ISLAND' baffles experts
EXPERTS have been baffled by a seismic event which was powerful enough to move islands – but barely anybody noticed.

After collecting and analyzing much more data, scientists are confident they know how the "hum" was created ...
Mystery of Weird Hum Heard Around the World Solved

Mysterious seismic hums detected around the world were likely caused by an unusual geologic event — the rumblings of a magma-filled reservoir deep under the Indian Ocean, a new study finds.

These odd hums were an unconventional geologic birth announcement. A few months after the sounds rippled around the Earth, a new underwater volcano was born off the coast of the island of Mayotte, located between Madagascar and Mozambique in the Indian Ocean.

The new findings provide a detailed, one-year timeline of the newborn volcano's birth, which would make any mother (in this case, Mother Earth) proud. The study details how magma from a reservoir about 20 miles (35 kilometers) under the ocean floor migrated upward, traveling through Earth's crust until it reached the seafloor and created the new volcano. ...

Maybe the DoE are hoping that the ground will open up and swallow all that nasty radioactive stuff for them, saving on storage and/or recycling costs
That is the exact opposite of what they are hoping for. The aim with nuclear waste containment is to produce remote but stable conditions where the material can remain utterly undisturbed. Being buried by an earthquake would lead to groundwater contamination and all sorts of trouble.
