Edinburgh Fortean Society 2021

The next event of the Edinburgh Fortean Society is Tuesday the 14th of September, live, online via zoom at 8pm.

Ciaran O’Keeffe will be talking on
Exploring the Haunting Reality of Paranormal Encounters
Reports of paranormal experiences—events and situations seemingly beyond scientific explanation—vary tremendously, but are often associated with ghosts, haunted houses, and otherwise eerie circumstances. There exist both classic and modern texts on ghosts and haunted or possessed people, places and spaces; many of them offer discussions of traditional ideas regarding such phenomena or utilize now-outdated research in highly academic and technical ways. A very different approach is offered here in easily understood reviews provided by a leading-edge research program devoted to increasing the understanding of who has ghostly experiences and why.

Please note this will be a live event starting at 8pm via Zoom.

Next meeting of the Edinburgh Fortean Society

Tuesday the 12th of October at 7.30pm,
live via Zoom

Steve Parsons talking on "Ghost Hunters and Ghost Gadgets".

Introducing the latest SPR publication for ghost investigators and a look at some of the methods and equipment that investigators use.

In 2012 and again in 2014, The Wall Street Journal Called Steve Parsons "The Gold Standard of Ghost Hunting."

Steve is a unique investigator of ghosts, hauntings and related phenomena whose background, peer recognition, experience, and knowledge separate him from a domain full of pseudo-scientific amateur ghost hunters. He has hunted for ghosts since childhood and has been a full time investigator for more than 30 years. Peers and leading academic parapsychologists acknowledge him to be one of the best paranormal investigators in the UK. He has been involved in many areas of psychical research and has developed and pioneered new methods of investigating ghosts and haunting phenomena. He remains at the forefront of true scientific ghost hunting. His work on infrasound and the paranormal led him to design and build specialist equipment to precisely measure & record location based Infrasound. Using newly applied digital photographic techniques, he was the first to finally demonstrate and prove that the much debated orb phenomenon has a mundane explanation.

Steve has contributed to, and participated in, numerous documentaries for broadcasters Worldwide including productions for The Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, Japanese TV and for both the BBC and other UK broadcasters. In addition, he has worked as the paranormal investigator on hit TV shows Most Haunted and I’m Famous & Frightened, cleverly balancing the entertainment needs of the shows with his technical & rigorous approach to investigations. He has written five books and is a regular contributor to the news media, books & magazines, his prolific work has featured and has been cited in numerous books, peer reviewed journals, as well as popular magazines and newspapers. Since 2012, he has co-hosted the popular Ghost Chronicles International radio show and hosts his own paranormal themed show on independent radio.

His forthright and no nonsense approach is well known throughout paranormal investigation circles and he has a hard won reputation for producing results. Steve continues to present his research at academic conferences and public 'paracon' events in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Steve is the co-founder of Para.Science, which in 2021 celebrated 28 years of active spontaneous case investigation. Some of these investigations involved tens of thousands of man hours and several years to complete. A commitment to quality that will continue into the future.

In addition to his work with Para.Science, he is often asked to act as an independent advisor on many other investigations offering training, support and analysis of subsequent evidence. He is currently a Council member for The Society for Psychical Research - SPR (founded 1882) an Advisor to The Ghost Club (founded 1862).

Gordon - -this isn't on the Edinburgh Fort. Society channel? I'm not able to view the video in the US as it is.
Just had a look, apparently it has been blocked in the US due to a copyright infringement - it contains a brief clip from Most Haunted. I'll see if I can do a US edit!

My gosh, this legal stuff is crazy. It would be great to clip out, I don't need to see any more MH.

Currently saving itself prior to upload.

I must admit I am impressed at the technology used to correctly identify it.

Looking into how best keep the online Ball rolling once we go ask to real life meetings.
Just a suggestion for the future.

Having spent a fair bit of time recently on the Kelly-Hopkinsville thread, it so happened, as these things tend to do, that whilst on a related Google search for simply 'little green men', this came up:

Count the Green Men
Rosslyn Chapel

https://www.rosslynchapel.com/visit/things-to-do/count-the-green-men/

Didn't know about that and it reminded there are so many Fortean connections, especially the Knights Templar and 'Holy Grail' associations.

Even though less than an hour's travel from home, I never get around to seeing it.

If still reliant on a video feed, the thought had occurred if it might be possible to invite someone with the historical knowledge (the chapel would surely help, if necessary?), who could give a talk on this subject?

Alternatively, as the chapel is open to visitors all year round, perhaps an Edinburgh Fortean Society outing, one suitable Tuesday evening?

They have evening candlelight visits!

(Restricted to 24 people and needs to be booked in advance).

We've actually done both although there is no reason we can't revisit either!

The talk was very early on in the life of the group and the visit was much more recent. As well as the evening talks we also have done conferences and walks and visits to locations some local and some less so. I do have a spread sheet listing everything we have ever done and it runs to something like 250 talks and nearly 100 other events!
