Everybody Not A Member Of The Christian Right Has Been Turned Transgender

I don't have an article on this, but I have heard about this from my brother who read a now paywalled article about the strange beliefs of 2022 Chicago-area mass shooter Robert Crimo. One strange thing that he apparently believed in was a darker twist on the basic QAnon story, but the other belief seemed to me to be even stranger.

Apparently, the theory goes that if you aren't a conservative Christian, you have been turned transgender against your will by something - I don't know if it is a chemical or supposedly something supernatural. This transistioning apparently effects both men and women in this theory. An example being used was a photograph of Clint Eastwood that seemed to show one of his hand smaller than another as proof of his trans status removing his manhood. Other photographs from the theory positioned women with larger shoulders as becoming men. I get the impression that this emerging conspiracy theory is just now getting talked about outside of whatever dark corner of the web that has spawned the insanity.

Has anybody heard anything further about this one?
 
Certainly there has been a growing number of conspiracy theorists who are convinced that gender change is an integral part of the illuminati belief system, and there are youtube channels specialising in outing secretly trans celebrities. Most of these people seem to be fundies.

There are some broad shouldered men calling themselves women and entering sporting competitions, taking places from women.

But the theory you mention is just something from the extreme fundies.
 
This thread is not a general discussion of transgenderism and certainly not a place to discuss transgender athletes etc.

Note: we are in the CONSPIRACY forum and this is a specific claim to be debated.

Such as is possible.
 
I have seen a Twitter thread unrolled where a woman had delusionally started accusing her friends and acquaintances of being transgender with similarly daft evidence of either small hands, or big ears, etc.

Apparently, it stems from the whole chemicals in the water turning frogs gay, etc.

This stuff is so crazy, it gives guano a bad name.

No, and it sounds absolutely idiotic. If that is what the shooter believed then there must have been signs of his mental instability years ago, but the U.S. has no good medical system or mental health system so it goes unchecked.

This is the biggest problem with such a conspiracy theory ... How it is that Xtian fundamentalists are able to evade whatever influence is changing everyone else? Are they sure they're actually evading it?
 
It’s often said that people who fake UFO pictures etc. get caught up in the hoax and then are too embarrassed/ashamed to be able to confess.

Is it possible that someone thinks this crap up as a joke, sticks in on ****book or whatever and finds a whole lot of credulous idiots start circulating it? They are then too embarrassed to confess it was all a joke.

Conspiracy theories used at least to have some sort of internal logic; they’re just not trying anymore.

Women with wide shoulders? Obviously the casts of Dallas and Dynasty were got at back in the 80s:rolleyes:

I'm sure it happens all the time. A lot of satire, esp online is close enough a parody as to be indistinguishable from the sincere nonsense pumped out by fringe (or not so fringe) groups. I've lamented the death of nuance many a time, but I fear it's only getting worse.

Im sure there was a Sci Fi story along these lines-a miracle drug that cured all sorts of cancers. The side affect was you changed gender and became younger. Everyone was young and beautiful and sterile accept the drug creator who was appalled and miserable.

If I recall who it was by I will post a link, if it turns out I dreamed the whole novel I claim copywriter
 
I was for many years a member of the BBC Religion and Ethics message board. There were some very erudite and interesting discussions but it's also where I first learned about 'Poe's Law'.
Sorting out the parody from the sincerely believed stuff was nigh on impossible when fundamentalists on the Christian topic got going. The longest thread was 'Noah's Ark' which went on going for thousands and thousands of messages. The Bible literalists were refusing to even consider other interpretations so it just kept going round and round with other Christians as well as atheists weighing in. All very entertaining but sad as well.
 
It's interesting that the language used by these folks is to call people "trans". "Trans" is very specific - it describes a person who has made a choice and taken steps of various kinds and degrees to transform themself. It might be as simple as deciding to live as another gender with no physical changes at all. It's not that I was born a woman and - ping! - the trans fairy came along and hit me with their wand.
