Exclusive! U.S. President: The Moon Is Part Of Mars

With the amount of junk we have landed on it over the years you should have a good starting point
for a scrap yard or a rover traffic jam.

LOL
The President just worded it poorly, I think. Perhaps he meant to type:
'They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing (of which the Moon is just a part) - such as Mars, Defense and Science!'

Indeed. I took it to mean that The Moon could be used as a stepping stone on the way to Mars.

He probably did, I saw a afair bit of amusement from folks combining this with his statement last month about forgetting the moon.

Sadly, this is probably what happened. Trump is not articulate enough to sound clever when speaking off-the-cuff.

Trump has plenty of enemies, who seek to ridicule him whenever possible.
One would have thought that his policies alone would provide sufficient material to achieve this, but the Trump critics tend to overegg the pudding by twisting his Tweets (sounds painful!).
Two examples that spring to mind are when Trump described something as "big league" i.e. of major importance, it became "did Trump really say bigly?" and, secondly, when he mistyped press coverage as "cofefe".

Yes, it was just a slip of the tongue. Hard to see why people took it otherwise.

But Trump has missed a trick with his old foe CNN.

I don't know if any of you have noticed that in one of their jingles, they refer to their analyst/correspondent Julia Chattely as Celia Chatterly.

And as the jingle comes around every hour or so, I am surprised that neither Trump nor CNN have noticed.

Covfefe is officially not a misspelling or mistype.

I think at this point it would be appropriate to congratulate everyone on avoiding reference to full time double entendre and occasional planet, Uranus. I know from personal experience that the sheer physical and mental effort in resisting reference to Uranus

There's a Uranus Road not far from where I live. My Mother in Law never failed to point it out when we were driving that way. "And now, we're going UP Uranus".

Yup.

I fear someone gave him a bottle of poitin when he was in Ireland.
He has certainly swallowed a lot of Putin when in Russia.
I didn't know potatoes with cheese curds and gravy was popular in Ireland or Russia! Live and learn.

Anyway, as much fun as it is to make fun of Mr. Trump's incoherent use of the language, I sometimes think this kind of joking, like taking a misstatement that can be reasonably parsed as "the Moon is likely a part of a practical mission to Mars" and saying he actually believes the Moon is a component of the planet Mars, only helps strengthen the pro-Trump forces and their Trump-bashers-equal-Liberals-equal-Socialists-equal-evil-incarnate mentality. "These idiots can't even understand a slip of the tongue! They should never be allowed in power again at any cost!"

That being said, some intelligent criticism of the statement should be in order: If you want to go back to serious manned space presence, you start with going back to the Moon - first to test the new equipment, then to start building permanent colonies that will serve not only the Mars missions but several decades, if not centuries, of further exploration. That isn't just repeating what we did in the 1960s and 1970s, it's building on it.

This has not stopped me from having fun with it. My favorite is "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh Covfefe fhtagn"
Iä! Iä! Drumpf fhtagn!

Now there's a Guardian article about Trump tweeting that he met the Prince of Whales. So much noise.
If I could do it all again, I would become a journalist. It must be so easy these days.

Focussing on the spelling mistake has also distracted from the actual content of the tweet - which indicates that Trump does not recognise the difference between covert collusion with foreign powers in the pursuit of electoral advantage, and meeting with foreign heads of state in an official capacity.

It's kind of basic stuff.

Of course he does: (a) didn’t happen, other than in the heads of those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome, i.e. the US media.

Seems he doesn't. Even if we accept that he is completely innocent of all prior accusations, he is now on record as stating that he would take information from a foreign government on an electoral opponent during an election campaign - which, by all accounts, is illegal under US law. He uses the fact that he meets foreign officials at other times and in other circumstances, to justify this stance - this is basically a logical, and legal, non-sequitur.

Edit: Probably getting political there. But the Prince of 'Whales' thing appeared in the general context of the above, and if anything it illustrates how useless much of the MSM is in focussing on matters that are - or might be - actually important.
