Fashion & Clothing: Follies, Fads & Social Norms

Yup, I had a distinct impression of exactly that leech-like, scrounging behaviour.

and a creepy impression that it was an excuse to forge a link.

Quite different to someone who has picked up the wrong bag on their way out the door!

They do, but they're not allowed.
Anyway, a man's bag would end up with tools in it.
Our client doesn’t want people walking through their “campus” with PPE visible, so everyone inducted onto site gets a cheap little duffel bag with the clients logo emblazoned upon it to carry their hi-vis and hat in when taking the two minute walk between the welfare cabins and the construction site.

Has anyone seen Frank Skinner and Denise Mina (no idea) on the tv series Wordsworth and Coleridge Road Trip?

If so, can anyone explain what, in the name of all that is holy, what the 'thing' that Mina wears is all about?
She has more than one pair in varying colours as well.

(Can't find a full photo, but I cannot tell whether they're trousers or a skirt or both).

Hang on a minute. Some girls in the 1980s wore 'puffball' skirts if my memory serves, but they weren't like this ridiculous set up.

What's ridiculous about it? I hope it has a taffeta underskirt top give a proper froufrou sub-noise.

That shape either means that sleeves/shoulders come out to balance it, or the top half is more fitted - think redingote?

What's ridiculous about it? Look at it. And oh God, I hadn't even considered that it had sleeves. It looks terrible. Add on the fingerless gloves and glasses she perches on her nose... 'Trying too hard' to be 'whacky' and 'crazy' springs to mind. Like those women who reach a certain age and dye their hair pink or whatever, for some reason.

Try: realising they don't have to take any notice of the petty meanness of people who think their views matter?

As you know, the ways of much of the human race are a mystery to me. Please educate me on how to tell the difference between trying too hard and doing whatever the fuck she wants? Pheronomes? Does someone hold up a notice? The flight of birds?

Bit hypocritical there Frides. You're telling me that I'm wrong for having a different view to someone else, while at the same time saying that you have a differing opinion to me. We could be here all day......

And for the record, I also don't like to see pinapple on pizza, socks with sandals and Piers Morgan. Especially Piers Morgan.

Yup, they were girls. This is a woman of about my age. Is that what you don't like?
No, it's just the 'skirt/trouser/Mc Hammer' look that is an afront to my eyes. As is pinapple on pizza. And Piers Morgan.

Nope. Attempted diversion and deflection. That isn't what I'm saying, although I see how it is convenient for you to riff that it is.

The 'skirt/trouser/Mc Hammer' look is a personal opinion. People get irritated by different things. But then you gave details about what lies behind your irritation.

Pineapple-on-Pizza is qualitatively different to ...'Trying too hard' to be 'whacky' and 'crazy' springs to mind. Like those women who reach a certain age and dye their hair pink or whatever, for some reason.

As you make clear this really is an age thing isn't it? Can we add in another broad grouping that you are taking stereotyped pot shots at? How do you feel about men who do the same? What about girls who are 'Trying too hard' to be 'whacky' and 'crazy'. ?

Which segues neatly into the question you haven't answered :
Please educate me on how to tell the difference between trying too hard and doing whatever the fuck she wants? Pheronomes? Does someone hold up a notice? The flight of birds?

You haven't answered the question:
What lies behind my irritation? Isn't the hatred for 'mc hammer' enough?

There was an attempt to revive them in the '80s to signal the age of the 'New Elizabethans'. Randy Andy's missis Fergie for one wore a version of them, like a big white wavy collar.
Not making this up, wish I was.

I always wondered about food being dropped onto them. Did it sit there for all to see? or did it work its way down into the folds....
