Fashion & Clothing: Follies, Fads & Social Norms

It would be awful if the garment were modelled on the lass’s actual physique. Bangers like sock puppets wouldn’t be alluring - she might start doing routines.

Pretty sure she wasn't wearing them just to look alluring to the male gaze...

If I'm painting or decorating I will wear the most peculiar assortment of clothing and just hope I don't have to step outside to the shops...

I did not know that! It does explain their appearance. Although less so their (saggy and odd) appearance on a high street near everyone. I am sure Dryrobe and Ugg boots combos have been seen.

Oh course there is!

Apparently Ugg boots are now known as “Slag Wellies.”

l couldn’t possibly comment.

( )

Ye gods! According to noted Fleabag fanzine and part-time newspaper the Guardian, it is now the custom of our apocalyptic times that Father Christmas is portrayed by some of those 'women' people I've heard about. Good lord! Next they'll be having jobs, playing golf, and wearing their old man's trousers! O tempora! O mores and all that jazz. Where will the frenzied demands of women end, I ask myself because nobody ever wants to talk to me?

The rise of Mother Christmas: why has Santa Claus suddenly been sidelined?
Mrs Claus is replacing Santa in many UK grottos this year. Is this another sign of the dreaded ‘wokification’ of the holiday – or just a fun modern update? PS Steven would like thermal socks for Christmas, please Mrs Santa

That’s not very current - 2007 is 17 years ago..

Here's a $395 Prada scrunchy.
To think I used to make carrier bags full of colourful ones for my daughters and nieces and to give away to their friends when I could have made ugly nylon articles like this monstrosity.

Where else will bearded ladies find work?

On a related note.....after doing some related 'jacket sleuthing' online, I'm amazed to discover that Fjallraven (which I used to buy back when I originally was still hill-fit, in the 1980s) which was a brilliant Scananavian outdoor equipment manufacturer, is now also being worn as high-end high street fashion.

Which also means that when I thought I recognised the badge on the backpacks being worn a few weeks back by a gaggle of giggly teens, it was a Fjallraven kanken (I thought they were called knappen....)

I'm wearing a Fjällräven tee-shirt today, which I bought ages ago from the camping shop in Guildford.
I like the organic cotton and the slightly outdoor/intrepid vibe of the brand name appealed to me. If Fjällräven is morphing into fashion apparel for "giggling teens" though I may have to think twice before being seen in it!

There are certain brands I simply wouldn't want to be associated with and never buy - Adidas, Reebok and Nike spring immediately to mind.
I am a fan of Rohan, Levis and Doc Martens though.

Just reference St Catherine Labourie in another thread. Was therefore looking at the wikipedia entry and am in love with her hat. Perfect mediaval high fashion headdress. French or Burgundian I'd say rather than anywhere else. Oh my stars! Oh my tail and whiskers! I've come over all unneccesary!

The headdress is called a cornette, a style popular with well-off French ladies up to the start of the 19th century.
I could make one.
