FBI agents who are part of a secretive group investigating the surge of “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” what the government uses to refer to UFOs, are worried that they could lose their jobs in a possible FBI purge targeting officials who worked on Jan. 6 cases, according to four people familiar with the matter.

Some of the FBI agents who work in the group also worked on Jan. 6 cases, according to the people. All agents across the bureau have been ordered to fill out a questionnaire about their work on the Capitol attack. There are worries that the move could lead to a Trump-ordered purge at the agency, said the people, some of whom were granted anonymity to discuss personnel matters.

Interesting dilemma.

If UFOs are some form of covert surveillance, or maybe even armed drones, then investigating them is hugely important.

If UFOs are evidence of alien life showing a direct interest in Earth, then investigating them is even more important, arguably a to priority.

However, if UFOs are all some combination of hoaxes, misidentification, and some localised anomalous atmospheric conditions, then investigating them is not a matter for the FBI.

However, if they are not investigated, we will never know whether they are a threat until it actually manifests as such, by which time it will be too late.

Of course, we know that many other things really exist and are a threat, so there is a definite case for investigating them.

As far as I am aware, ther has never been any credible evidence of UFOs being a threat. Therefore, I can see why such a team or department would struggle to justify it's existence at public expense.

If they are covert surveillance or foreign drones, is that really something the FBI should be dealing with? Isn`t that more a NSA or CIA thing?

CIA is for outside the country, FBI is for inside. NSA is pretty nebulous but mostly spying outside and also not very large as an agency.

The FBI did catch one Chinese national flying a drone in a restricted zone near a military airfield.

Yinpiao Zhou, 39, a Chinese citizen living legally in the U.S., in Brentwood, Contra Costa County, has been charged with failure to register an aircraft not providing transportation and violation of national defense airspace, the Justice Department said in a statement.
He was arrested Tuesday at San Francisco International Airport as he prepared to board a flight to China and had been due to appear in court Wednesday.
An affidavit filed on Dec. 8 says that on Nov. 30, the base's drone detection systems were alerted to a drone flying over the base.
"The drone systems detected that the drone flew for nearly one hour, traveled to an altitude of almost one mile above ground level, and originated from Ocean Park," the Justice Department said.
Base personnel spoke with Zhou on the day, the department said, noting that he was accompanied by another person. They found that he had concealed the drone in his jacket at the time.
Two things to note; the drone was small enough to fit inside his jacket, so it wasn't a 'car-sized drone'. Secondly this all happened in November, before December's drone flap; no foreign nationals were arrested for flying drones during that flap, because it was pure hysteria.

Note as well that the FBI do have a legitimate interest in UAP events, but only when they break federal laws; they are not interested in little green men who are law-abiding.
