Scientists taught rats to drive little rat-sized cars.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/23/us/rats-drive-tiny-cars-trnd/index.html

-----------------------------------------------------
Rats have learned how to drive and steer their own tiny cars in exchange for Froot Loops.
That's a feat on its own.
But the real discovery in the study -- and its wider implications for human mental health treatment -- was found in their poop, per new findings published in Behavioural Brain Research.

I like how the rats could crash into the wall to stop their cars. What innovations are next? I see a rat clown car on the horizon . . .

Calls for memorial to Scotland's tortured and executed witches

I don't know whether this deserves a thread of it's own, or whether it should be moved elsewhere (mods - please feel free:)) but a Guardian article about Scotland's witch trials of the 16th/17th centuries. There is a link provided within the article that allows you to view an interactive map that shows where trials and executions took place - you can click on the map for more information (where available) on the individual cases.

Here's a representative screenshot of Mid and East Lothian (Edinburghshire and Haddingtonshire at the time):

Bigfoot Watcher Chasing Chemtrails Records a UFO

According to his commentary during the video (you can watch it here), Marc Abell –the CEO of Colorado Bigfoot, a provider of Bigfoot videos – was recording a plane making a contrail over a snow-covered terrain in Vail, Colorado, and believed the color and shape changes in the contrail were signs that the plane was actually spraying something rather than just trailing the usual water vapor and jet exhaust. To the untrained or disbelieving eye, it looks like just another contrail. However, there’s no mistaking that a white object suddenly appears in the video near the contrail.

“What is that it’s following it? You guys, that is too crazy, what is that?”

What a (fake) dick move.

Lost masterpiece found broken in two in gallery storage, after BBC expert identified it from cows' backsides.

lt did not look much like the work of an Old Master: a filthy panel broken clean in two, with much of its subject over-painted or obscured.

But the presence of some cows - specifically, their rear ends - was a clue to the painting’s illustrious history.

The work had languished for decades in a drawer at Birmingham Museum, and attributed to an anonymous artist, when it was spotted by Dr Bendor Grosvenor, art historian and presenter of the BBC series Britain’s Lost Masterpieces.

Inspecting the painting close-up for the programme, he said: “I’m drawn to the cows, particularly the rear ends of them. Now, if there is one artist in particular who loved the back end of a cow, it is Bruegel the Elder.”

Ah yes, to be on the BBC as the "expert in cow backsides"...

Actually, it's really really expensive to restore and maintain old and fragile art work. It can be ruinously expensive for small museums to take proper care of the works in storage.

A local police blotter story. Here's a map of the township.

’Bigfoot’ trys to open man’s front door: Bainbridge Township police blotter

https://www.cleveland.com/police-bl...-door-bainbridge-township-police-blotter.html

After hearing gunshots 4:26 a.m. Oct. 22 a resident called police. Officers arrived and questioned a man who admitted to firing warning shots at a seven-foot tall ‘Bigfoot’ creature or bear who he said tried to open his front door and get his dogs. He also said it visits his home every night at about 8 p.m. The subject was deemed to be not intoxicated. Officers could not find any creature foot prints or signs of an animal visit. The man was advised to call police if it returns and advised against firing shots into the air.

Something is seriously wrong with the guy—why hasn't he installed a critter cam to take pictures? If he'd done that and posted the footage on YouTube, he'd have been a millionaire by now!

Some may say that the British Royal family are a special bunch, however it appears that they are also miraculous, in a spooky kind of way. This headline (outlined) grabbed my attention today whilst surfing through some news stories.

More of a news story than just a headline, Lord Buckethead has rebranded as Count Binface.

Lord Buckethead lost his head due to a copyright claim by the owners of Gremloids. He is now back, as County Binface. However Lord Buckethead has also resurfaced, now with the blessing of the owners of Gremloids. They are now running against each other in the coming election.

-----------------------------
Responding to the unlikely re-incarnation of his former identity – whom he will now stand against, Count Binface said: “I look forward to both the hustings and to challenging the new ‘Lord Buckethead’ to take part in a receptacle-to-receptacle debate.”
