Wurst luck: half-eaten sausage helps German police solve cold case

Nine-year old burglary solved thanks to a half-eaten sausage, which contained the defendant's DNA. Going by the pic, they could probably have nabbed him using dental records, as the part-eaten sausage contains clear teeth marks. Either way, it was a pretty stupid thing to do...

Monster antimatter particle slams into Antarctica

:omg: :nails: :willy:

The most remote particle detector on Earth has detected the most energetic antimatter particle ever: a single ultralight particle that smacked into the Antarctic ice with the (relatively) thundering energy of 6,300 flying mosquitos.

The collision occurred in 2016, but researchers only confirmed the details of the event March 10 in a paper published in the journal Nature. This antineutrino, an antimatter counterpart of the wispy, difficult-to-detect particles known as neutrino, collided with an electron somewhere in the ice of Antarctica at nearly the speed of light. ...

The article says

The researchers still aren't sure what cosmic accelerator produced the monstrous speck of antimatter, but said more events should help them refine their models of whatever natural space canons produce such extreme particles and fire them at Earth.

Anyone here qualified enough to speculate it's origin? Supernova, black hole, neutron star, left over from the big bang?

Vagina pants!” is my new fave insult. Which is odd, as it’s also my Cherokee name.

It's good but not as good as covid breath! .. ala "Piss off covid breath!" .. I've been saying that to Cromer co workers all year and some of them have even laughed. I invented that one :). (the insult, not the virus).

When someone tries the insult out back at you (and they will), reply with "Well if I'm catching it, everyone's getting it!"

Scientists Grew Tear Glands in a Dish, And Made Them Cry

Generally, it's not considered a very nice thing to make something cry, but new research doing just that could help people who can't.

In a world first, scientists have grown tear glands from human stem cells in a dish, and induced them to produce tears - a significant achievement that could help develop therapies for tear gland disorders, and a step towards regenerative therapies, far into the future. ...

£68 for a weird vagina-candle that turns into a flamethrower?
No thanks!

The Evening Standard has ran one of their sporadic “I moved from London to the countryside and didn’t realise it would smell like muck spreading” stories.

Entertaining enough, even before you get to the haunted house they lived. Phantom name calling, windows opening of their own accord and a superstitious cleaner - all the makings of a James Herbert novel.

Virginia police officer shot during attempt to catch an escaped cow

I'm imagining some sort of Gary Larson cows with guns thing.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...hot-during-attempt-catch-escaped-cow-n1261692

-----------------------------------
The department is investigating whether the officer was shot by a fellow officer or by someone else attempting to stop the cow.

Due to injuries sustained during the attempt to wrangle the animal, a decision was made to euthanize the cow.
