Nine Massive Waves of Deadwood Surge Across a Forest Floor Near Hamburg

View attachment 40621

As the fear of a second wave of COVID-19 swept through Germany in the fall of 2020, photographer and artist Jörg Gläscher decided to channel his own worry into a project that felt similarly vast and domineering. “I was working (with the idea of) the pure power of nature, the all-destroying force, which brings one of the richest countries in the world to a completely still stand,” he tells Colossal. “A wave is a periodic oscillation or a unique disturbance the state of a system.”

Between November 2020 and March 2021, Gläscher spent his days in a secluded location near Hamburg, where he gathered deadwood and constructed nine massive crests—the largest of which spans four meters high and nine meters wide—that overwhelm the forest floor in undulating layers of branches and twigs. Each iteration, which he photographed and then promptly destroyed in order to reuse the materials, overwhelms the existing landscape with pools of the formerly thriving matter. ...

Carnival Cruise Cyber-Torpedoed by Cyberattack

carnival cruise

This is the fourth time in a bit over a year that Carnival’s admitted to breaches, with two of them being ransomware attacks.
Carnival Corp., the world’s largest cruise-ship operator, has sprung another leak: For the second time in a year, attackers have breached email accounts and accessed personal, financial and health information belonging to guests, employees and crew.

You would rather hope that they ran a slightly tighter ship, especially after having run aground on this sort of thing before.

The text of the article appears to indicate that they have more of this sort of thing planned, so 'keep em peeled'.

Excuse this personal plug but it might of interest to this thread: As part of a newsletter I started, I post a Weekly Weird News review each week that is a wrapup of odd or anomalous events in the news. The links are shamelessly pilfered from here as well as other web aggregators but I consider this "curation" as I weed out most of the UFO/UAP ego-fueled insanity and choose only the best bits. The site is here https://sharonahill.substack.com/
To subscribe to just the WWN part, you can go here. https://sharonahill.substack.com/s/weekly-weird-news
Comments on each week's post are appreciated. If you subscribe, the post goes straight to your email and you don't have to visit the site weekly.

In an interesting aside, I had a message from a media producer to do a pilot for a weekly show about weird news. There is a market for this stuff. I passed on it because I simply cannot devote that much time to it, but it would be nice to see a measured take on Fortean-style news. I'd love if FT branched out into more media (I have recommended this to the Heads that Be). I'm thinking of the long-gone Fortean Times TV show. Not so well done but cool content.

Two from me on the same day! (Although this one might be more appropriate in other threads.)

Danish journalist has sex during interview for segment on swingers club
Louise Fischer of Radio 4 says reactions to interview were mostly positive

The fact she is able to conduct an interview while having sex does not speak volumes about the man involved. Or maybe it does, I'm not sure.

Police break up exorcism at Eastern Pa. Home Depot

‐-------‐---------------------
Police in Lackawanna County broke up an exorcism in the lumber aisle of a home-improvement store Monday.

....

According to reports, the exorcism was held for the trees that had been turned into lumber.

The police blotter item posted on the Dickson City police Facebook page gave few clues as to what happened, simply saying:

“3:26pm Commerce Blvd. Home Depot for disorderly people having an exorcism in the lumber aisle for the dead trees. They were escorted out of the building.”

Aren't exorcisms done to benefit the living? Isn't it blessing that is done for the benefit of the dead? Are the 2 x 4s rising from the lumber yard to suck the sap of living trees, or what? (In which case, what kind of stake would lay them to rest?)

I really think the police mischaracterized this as an "exorcism" by using a buzzword they knew for guys in black moaning and swaying. Heck, maybe it was Orthodox Jews praying. The details are not there.

Ghost removal perhaps? I dunno.

You'd think he'd have been the perfect spokesperson for this:

Beatle Ringo Starr drops legal battle with ‘Ring O’ sex toy company

The Beatles legend Sir Ringo Starr has dropped his legal battle with a sex toy company.

The 80-year-old drummer has reached an agreement with the makers of the Ring O adult device, having previously launched an objection in March 2019 because he felt the brand name would “tarnish” his own moniker.

According to the dismissal settlement, Starr has consented to the use of the name Ring O “only in connection with adult aids and desensitising sprays, and so long as there is a separation between the word ‘RING’ and the letter ‘O’.”

He has now withdrawn his complaint after reaching an agreement with the manufacturers, Pacific Coast Holdings and Momentum Management, who have agreed to “avoid any activity likely to lead to confusion”.

Could also go in the shite taxidermy thread.
That's made me literally (sic) cry with laughter!

I love the quote: "He’s scary but also he’s pretty cute, he’s got such a big smile. He just looks like a happy cat, either that or he’s screaming or throwing up." That's a truly horrific maw, like the Joker or something!

I feel sorry for the cats owner

(pps I bet that Coastguard is one of these evangelical evolutionists, with an axe to grind)

Might you reconsider? Please don't just consider it as a future reincarnation project. Being too busy is a pain, I do understand)

(Or did you maybe consider ticking the box on that Family Tree DNA sample submission that said "Send me back a duplicate me"?)

I'd love if FT branched out into more media (I have recommended this to the Heads that Be). I'm thinking of the long-gone Fortean Times TV show. Not so well done but cool content.
I reckon you'd be a great candidate for joint-producing / presenting such a replacement)
