LA police: Wearing expensive jewelry could make you a target

Los Angeles police are warning people that wearing expensive jewelry in public could make them a target for thieves — a note of caution as robberies are up citywide.

The police department’s suggestion Tuesday came as robbers smashed the front window of a Beverly Hills jewelry store in broad daylight and fled with millions of dollars’ worth of merchandise.

Passersby recorded video of Tuesday’s robbery, the latest in a long string of brazen smash-and-grab thefts and robberies of people wearing expensive watches or jewelry in the Los Angeles region. ...

I was going to ask, is "Blighty man" the UK's version of "Florida man"?
"Blighty" is Britain or England, rather than a region or county, so no, it isn't a similar concept to Florida man.

Blighty comes from the Urdu "bilāyatī" meaning "foreigner" or "European". I assume therefore it is one of those words adopted into British English from the days of empire. It was used to refer to England/Britain by soldiers in the first world war.

We don't have a clearly defined region with the same sort of reputation or image as Florida, although we do have a lot of regional stereotypes. Possibly our nearest equivalent would be "normal for Norfolk" — Norfolk being a geographically isolated rural/coastal county with a largely undeserved reputation for inbreeding.

It;s true! The government had to pay people to move to Cromer from other parts of the country in an attempt to enlarge the Norfolk gene pool. Ask Swifty.

Pennsylvania Deer Keep Jumping to Death From Bridge in 'disturbing' Scenes

/ I think there is a thread for this sort of thing (for dogs especially), but cant find it.

This isn't a case of "animal suicide".The deer are going across the bridge instead of under it for some reason and then they get spooked and jump the barrier. Like with other "suicide" bridges, they don't seem to recognize the height.

Dad ‘relaxing after work’ threatened to kill son he thought was possessed by a ghost after taking magic mushrooms

https://m.independent.ie/irish-news...st-after-taking-magic-mushrooms-41484656.html
What a badly written article.
First: title - did dad take mushrooms (he did), or did son?
Second: title says “son” but article refers to sons.
Third: Tulsa had investigated the matter, and the defendant had attended a drugs counsellor
Fourth: Who or what is “Tulsa”? Article makes reference to this twice, but doesn’t explain it.

Tusla, not Tulsa ... Tusla is the Irish Child and Family Agency.

What kind of person starts fighting with their rescuer?

Update (and explanation) ...

Morgan's female companion has now given a detailed report about what happened. She describes Morgan as having been "berserk", and she claims the rescuing boat owner had no choice but to shoot him. Yes - intoxicants were involved ...
South Carolina boater who fatally shot jet skier he tried to rescue had no choice, slain man's pal says

The boater who rescued a jet skier from drowning in a South Carolina lake and then fatally shot him had no choice after the man went berserk, the victim's friend told investigators.

"Nothing worked," Hannah Ayers, 19, said of trying to calm down Drew Morgan, 29 on the afternoon of March 15 in Lake Keowee, according to an incident report obtained by Fox News Digital. ...

"John just had to shoot him," she said of stranger John Dotson Jr. 74, who she credited with saving her life after she and Morgan fell off a jet ski near Fall Creek. ...

Ayers told the Daily Mail that Morgan became belligerent and violent after the Good Samaritan, who was fishing with his wife Debra Dotson, 70, spotted the pair struggling in the water and pulled the two onto their pontoon. ...

"Drew was my friend and I will mourn him as my friend," she said. "But I will never understand the way he was acting that day – it's like a demon possessed his body."

She added, "In my eyes there was no question that John had to shoot to protect himself and his wife. He will be my hero for life because, if it wasn't for him, I would have drowned in the water that day."

Ayers told investigators that Morgan had invited her to go jet skiing and look at waterfalls that day. But when she met up with him, he was clearly drunk and "slurring his words," the incident report says. ...

Morgan began speeding on the jet ski and took a sharp turn, ejecting them both into the water. Neither of them had on life vests, and Ayers said she was a poor swimmer and could barely stay above water as the yellow jet ski circled nearby.

The Dotsons spotted the pair in distress and rescued them – but Morgan became agitated, cussed out the couple, then shoved the elderly wife all while demanding they take him back to his jet ski. ...

There was snot and foam streaming from his nose and mouth, the Good Samaritan-turned-shooter told investigators. ...

A wild melee ensued and Morgan choked John and Debra Dotson, as he tried to take control of the boat, breaking the kill switch and making the vessel inoperable, the report says.

"All Drew cared about was getting his jet ski back," Ayers told authorities. Ayers started hitting Morgan to get him to stop assaulting the couple and finally shoved him off the boat.

But the Dotsons pulled the combative young man back onto their pontoon, and the conflict rapidly escalated.

John Dotson said he fired a warning shot and repeatedly pistol whipped Morgan, who had grabbed hold of his arm. But the crazed man wouldn't back down, and Dotson finally blasted him in the chest. ...

Officials executed a search warrant on Morgan's white GMC pickup truck and recovered empty cans of Michelob Ultra in the front cab, marijuana and drug paraphernalia – including a bong, pipes and a blunt. ...

Pueblo synagogue bomb plotter appeals ban on owning Thor's hammer

"Attorneys for Richard Holzer, who was sentenced to more than 19 years in federal prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for the bomb plot against Temple Emanuel synagogue on Grand Ave., said that barring him from possessing Thor's hammer violated his right to practice Norse paganism, which includes Thor in its pantheon.

When he was sentenced last year, Holzer was banned from possessing an array of items and symbols associated with antisemitism or white supremacy, including Thor's hammer, Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf," swastikas, and iron crosses, along with several numbers such as 12, 14, and 18 that are used as covert symbols in neo-fascist circles. Box of human bones found in Ohio garage are over a century old and were used in rituals, police say

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/b...d-were-used-in-rituals-police-say/ar-AAVApsa?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Police said the bones once belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a group that was founded as a fraternal organization in the early 19th century and once had a lodge in the city, but has long since moved from the area.

The bones were “relics” used by the group in rituals, police said.

“The organization was founded in 1819 and had a large following,” police said. The building where the group met was purchased by a new owner, who cleaned it out and stored the material from the building — including the box of bones — in the garage.

Topless man urinated on child, staggered into A9 traffic and shouted at sheep

A topless man urinated on a child before he lurched into traffic on the A9 and shouted at sheep, a court has heard.

Drunken Thomas Degnan was arrested following a disturbance near the Loaninghead Filling Station last summer.

The 42-year-old, from Glasgow, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court, having previously admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

The charge states that on May 28, 2021, at the petrol station near Gleneagles and on an adjacent field, he behaved in a way that was likely to cause fear or alarm.

He repeatedly shouted and swore, and struck the window of a car.
