Hull killer who fought London terrorist with narwhal tusk awarded Queen's civilian gallantry award.

A killer named Gallant on his first day out of prison on licence, tackled another killer on London Bridge with a narwhal tusk and has just been given a gallantry award by the late Queen (Gor bless you Ma'am).

As he should. It's not everyday that a narwhal tusk comes in handy.

That whole event was 'WTF'. Convicted murderers on a day out. A nutter who kills 2 people who tried to help him. A murderer becomes a hero after he has a battle with the nutter. You couldn't make it up.
Has anybody made a blockbuster film of this?

Edit: Oh yeah, and the man's name? Nominative determinism in action.

I'm sure there is probably a thread that this could be more properly located in, but I'm damned sure I don't know which one.

Why does this not surprise me.
Its scandalous. How many people were subjected to crimes that went uninvestigated????

"One of Scotland's main police control rooms used a fake system to manipulate response time targets for eight years, according to documents seen by the BBC.
Thousands of calls to the Bilston Glen control room were allocated to a fictitious call sign known as DUMY.
Internal systems would register that the calls had been passed to officers - but instead they were parked on a list.
This meant a police vehicle would not have been dispatched quickly to calls which had been judged as high priority.
It appears that many calls were not attended at all."

This is a massive scandal. At least one person died because alerts were not followed up.

Ouija Board Blamed for "28 Possible Cases of Anxiety" Among Students at School in Colombia

Nearly 30 girls in Colombia were taken to the hospital earlier this month after playing with a Ouija board, according to a report from Jam Press.

The students had reportedly suffered anxiety attacks after using the divinatory device at school.

“There were 28 possible cases of anxiety in school students,” said Hugo Torres, head of the Galeras Educational Institution in Galeras, Colombia, where the incident took place.

Interesting.
The paint uses the same biological method employed by such things as 'butterfly wings' to provide colour instead of bulky liquids with pigment in.
I couldn't find a 'paint' thread, so I thought we could watch this dry here instead.

"Lightest Paint In The World" Could Make Large Pots Of Paint Obsolete.
Researchers have created the "lightest paint in the world", but not in the way you might expect. While others battle for brighter and more reflective colors, this paint takes inspiration from nature to be incredibly lightweight, needing just a fraction of the normal amount of paint to cover the same area.

Typical - You wait ages for an article on 'paint', and then 2 come along at the same time!

Thermal paint: MXene spray coating can harness infrared radiation for heating or cooling.
An international team of researchers, led by Drexel University, has found that a thin coating of MXene—a type of two-dimensional nanomaterial discovered and studied at Drexel for more than a decade—could enhance a material's ability to trap or shed heat. The discovery, which is tied to MXene's ability to regulate the passage of ambient infrared radiation, could lead to advances in thermal clothing, heating elements and new materials for radiative heating and cooling.

@Trevp666, funny you should mention a paint thread. We have several threads on specific paints - vanta black and haint blue - and each is in a different forum group.

If it reaches the stores it will either cost far too much, or/and would cut down paint manufacturing companies profits I would imagine?

Indeed Sid, like the 'everlasting lightbulb', it would destroy sales of traditional gallons of magnolia emulsion so a big company like (eg) Dulux would probably buy the rights to it, and put it on a shelf in their back rooms, never to be seen again.

Which gets me to think about that bloke that used to be a barber or summit and mixed some stuff together and made a 'fireproof' (thermally insulating) coating, which he demonstrated by painting some on an egg and blowtorching it for 5 minutes and then cracking it open to prove it was still runny, and he refused to sell the patent to any company, or allow anyone to handle the stuff.
Dunno what happened to him but we never did see his invention used for coating (eg) reusable spacecraft, did we?

Reminds me of the man in the white suit. There is a lightbulb, is it in a fire house in America that’s been burning for over 100 years.

Starlite.
Since then, Starlite has been replicated.

Yeah - I don't think it's been permanently on, but pretty close to it, as it had to be relocated a couple of times IIRC.

Here's the follow-up story:

Sushi terror pranks outrage Japan as police make arrests.

Prosecutions are being made under Japan's "obstruction of business" law.
Apparently it wasn't too difficult to catch the perpetrators, as they filmed themselves tampering with the food and posted the videos onto social media.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-64898111

Update.

Japanese police have arrested two men who posted a clip showing one of them eating ginger from a communal container in a prank that has become known as “sushi terrorism”.

Osaka prefectural police said Ryu Shimazu and Toshihide Oka were arrested on suspicion of obstructing business as well as destroying and dirtying property.

In a video filmed by Oka and shared on social media, Shimazu is seen repeatedly shovelling shredded pickled red ginger — a staple topping for a popular beef dish — into his mouth with his chopsticks instead of a tong that customers are supposed to use, police said.

Shimazu told police that he wanted to make people laugh.
