Being a bit anal, I have 3 'pods, all with different stuff on.

1 - serious podcasts, a little music
2 - frivolous podcasts, no music
3 - music, no podcasts

There are some lovely scifi/horror/fantasy podcasts out there. Perfect for the dogwalk. ;)
Plenty of serious ones too. Many universities do them.

You are one seriously organised snail!

There are a lot of radio broadcasts here:
http://www.radioarchive.cc/

Particularly BBC.

We have at least one podcast thread already, y'know.

I did not know that.

(Sure mods can deal)

I've just discovered the Anything Ghost podcast. I like to listen to a podcast last thing, to fall asleep to.*
This one has lots of accounts of everyday people's experiences of spooky stuff, no discussion, just what people saw and heard.

*I've found that a male droning voice sends me off a treat!

I rely a lot on podcasts. If you don't know what they are, they're basically prerecorded radio format shows that are available for download.

I have a few favorites that fall in the Fortean category. I was hoping you had more recommendations.

Fiction:

We're Alive - a zombie serial
Welcome to the Night Vale - a series of fictional radio announcements from a strange desert town
The Leviathan Chronicles - a race to find the secrets to a group of immortals and aliens

The Human Condition:

Sawbones - misguided medicine in history
Mental Illness Happy Hour - interviews with people who suffer from various phobias and mental illnesses or the aftermath of traumatic events

Ghost Stories

Anything Ghost - a guy basically reads submitted "It Happened to Me" type stories. Sometimes the submitters read their own stories and send the audio to him.

I had a quick look for a podcasts thread but i could not find one so i thought i would start one (If there is one please merge threads). I listen to quite a lot of them and i was wondering what sort of favorites (Fortean or not) that anyone has. A few that I listen to are

Non Fortean -

Second Captains - An Irish sports podcast
The Infinite Monkey Cage
Friday Night Comedy
The Flop House
The Bugle - They have been gone for a long time but are due back in March.

Fortean -

Mysterious Universe
Unexplained with Howard Hughes
Gralien Report

No Such Thing as a Fish - stuff that QI researchers stumble across. It often wanders into Fortean territory, but even when it doesn't, it's well worth your time.
The Danny Baker show - yes, it's on radio bloke Five Live, but he gets the most extraordinary stories out of Joe and Jo Public. He also reads FT, occasionally while broadcasting.

The Paracast with Gene Steinburg and Christopher O’Brien.
Dark Matters Radio by Don Ecker

Also Skeptoid with Brian Dunning if you want to clear your head of some of that mind-numbing paranormal clutter we all gather!

Hello all, my name's Eleanor Morton, and I'm just posting to let everyone know about a new paranormal podcast.

I'm a comedian and history/myth/paranormal nerd, as is fellow presenter Will Seaward, and our Mythsteries podcast takes a look at unusual British stories and myths, all on location to give us a bit of an USP.
In Episode One we go to 50 Berkeley Square, allegedly the most haunted house in London, whilst Episode Two sees us travel to Gravesend to look at some legends of medieval UFO sightings and hear from some local historians. We're planning on a big trip to Edinburgh for the August edition!

The podcast lighthearted and fun in essence, we're not researchers or scientists, but we love talking about this sort of thing, both as skeptics and non-skeptics.

Hopefully Forteans will enjoy it and learn some interesting things. Links below

All the best,

Eleanor

After doing a brief search and coming up rather empty, I thought it would be good to have a thread dedicated to good Fortean podcasts, archives, and other digital listening opportunities solely of a Fortean nature.

I'll add some in an edit tonight, but I must rush out the door right now.

Let's hear your favorites!

Bizarre enough that I think it counts as Fortean

I know only the material he recycled for the tv series Jam. I have shown excerpts from the DVDs to a few people over the years. The sound of jaws dropping and brains slipping cogs as they attempt to come to terms with it is worth the experiment. Some find only pure evil in such black humour! I have always found Chris Morris very bracing.

Real life sci fi with willy and wade
Thinking sideways
The Unexplained with Howard Hughes
Last Podcast on the left
Mysterious Universe

Some of these veer more to unsolved mysteries and crime, but there's plenty of paranormal in the mix, and they're all pretty entertaining

cheers. been trawling through old episodes of mysterious universe. be good to have some new stuff for the coming winter spent under a duvet. :)

Absolutely. I've never found the courage to show anyone else the 'plumber' sketch, although I would dearly love to see the effect it has on them.

Interesting fact: When filming the TV series, Morris used the original radio recordings and got the actors to lip-sync to them, which tended to enhance the surreal atmosphere of the scenes.

I currently have the following fortean podcasts cued:

The Parapod http://www.theparapod.com Comedy
Black Tapes http://theblacktapespodcast.com/ Serial Fiction
Tanis http://www.tanispodcast.com Serial Fiction
Lore http://www.lorepodcast.com Folklore
Myths and Legends https://www.mythpodcast.com Folklore
Welcome to Nightvale http://www.welcometonightvale.com Serial Fiction
Alice Isn't Dead http://www.nightvalepresents.com/aliceisntdead/ Serial Fiction

I've listened to a lot more than these, but these are the ones that have staying power.

Enjoy.

I once merely described it to someone; he wondered how I could watch such things. It certainly hits a nerve and I can well imagine people touched with related issues being horrified. You would never show it to them, for sure!

I would only say that there is no hatred in the piece, only a bizarre tenderness, misguided tact and the shared denial of mortality.

It is certainly a long way from comedy, if we expect comedy to observe decorum. That is exactly what Morris refuses to do.

If you like cryptozoology, albeit from a scientific and honestly sceptical perspective, I'd highly recommend the Tetzoo podcasts. They've also cover interesting and off beat topics in zoology, paleontology, biology and the rest. They also harp on about sci fi films a lot. They're also genuinely entertaining as well as highly informative.

Really can't recommend them strongly enough.

Monstertalk is also supposed to be very good, but I don't know how to access that one.

Tried to listen to Paracast recently. Man that thing is literally about 60% ads. Total waste of my time..."paranormal" dating, health litigation specialists, erection pills? C'mon...

60% ads, 30% waffling about perfectly trivial and mundane matters, 10% paranormal goodies.

Don't recommend it.

I've been enjoying the Ghost Pod. It's a collection of ghost experiences mainly sent in by listeners.

As anyone who knows me will attest, I LOVE ghosts. Can't get enough of'em. :)

I'll be sending in some of my own stories. Shake'em up a bit!

Episode 17 has an account of a quite horrifying ghost seen in the cellar of a shop in Brighton. Sounded familiar to me, and sure enough, it was previously published in a book about Brighton ghosts which I have here. That's not to say it was cribbed, just that the same person contributed it to both the book and the podcast.
