Fortean Times On eBay

My phone finally accepted that I meant "Fortean" rather than "Gotten"!

I've put a load more issues up. Most are in good/very good condition. There's a huge pile that I need to go into in more detail, ranging from unsellable (badly creased) to minor creasings/water stains/printing faults which will go up at some point in a reduced price.

I just bought some to send to my sister but the delivery address is mine; I forgot to change it. I did message asking if they could go to her instead but if I have to receive them, no worries.

Excellent, I'm delighted!!
She said. ‘Thank you, something interesting to read in the evenings!’
So I’ll definitely be ordering more.

I also found and if you (or anyone else) has any of these knocking about, I’d love to buy them. I had them all, then some I loaned out, and the others must have been thrown out.

I loved these! They were not much to look at unlike FT and the Unexplained, rough paper, grainy b&w photos, but some of the stories in them just fascinated me.

I used to pop into W.H. Smiths on my lunch break to buy the latest and still remember some of the writing, as whomever(s) were writing the articles clearly had a feeling for it. ‘Oxford Ness, a wilderness of shingle…’

Whenever I searched for part works on the paranormal from the ‘80’s, it came up with FT and the Unexplained which I also read, but not these.

That sounds like a fascinating magazine, I'd love to find out more!

I’d love to find more of them :) As I mentioned, they weren’t presented as professionally as FT or Fate or what-have-you, but I just really loved them and how they were written. It felt almost as if some passionate ‘Fortean-minded’ people had got together to write a ‘zine. I’ll gladly post them on to you to read after I’ve had a look, if you want. Limited book space these days, unfortunately.

I have a massive pile of FTs from the past few years that I might as well sell if I can get £3 a pop for them on eBay! Was going to just gather them all together and drop them in a charity bin, but charity starts at home as they say.

Before I put any issues up I do some research and find out what others are charging, then I try to undercut those prices. If my issues have damage, I start chipping away at the price. However, there's a limit below which I'm reluctant to go.
You might also want to look at postage prices too. I send all my stuff signed for. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it, and it also means there some element of protection.
When I started eBay many years ago, there were a few things that went missing in the post (yeah, right!) and I had to reimburse the buyer.
Funnily enough, no one has made a claim against me since I started using recorded/signed for. Odd that, isn't it?!

I used to use 1st class but the cost soon became more than the items' worth. It could be that even the price of 2nd class signed for is too much but I'd rather not take the risk.

Yes, this happened to me. Now I send everything First Class tracked and signed for.
Always do the same!

It turns out that it was quite the scam to say something wasn't delivered, when it's being held at the post office, then win the ebay complaint, get money back THEN go get the goods. Thieves eh?

Hi Paul
Do you ship to the Emerald Isle or is it too much hassle. I'm always reading FT on a tablet would like to get some physical copies.

Sorry my friend, I don't. I used to pre-Brexit but since then it was so much hassle (and the postage cost too exorbitant) that I had to stop :(

I have about 20 early copies (No 2 onwards) of Doubt magazine, the US forerunner of FT. Was thinking of listing these on Ebay. They are not in the best condition, mainly because they were printed on cheap paper and I think were previously bound in one volume. These are very hard to come by. Anyone have any idea what I should be asking for them?

I got rid of about 80 consecutive copies of FT last year, all in good condition. Tried putting them on eBay in bundles of 10 at £0.99 start, no reserve. Got no bids at all. Ended up giving them to a charity shop.

No worries Paul, I thought as much, the postal charges are far too much same with CD's, records, DVD. Makes you buy local I suppose but with much less choice.

Brexit has scuppered many people's postal businesses; a lady in Belfast offered quite a lot of money to take most of my remaining ghost books off me earlier in the year but I had to decline as even posting to Northern Ireland is now such a problem (I've actually found it a lot easier posting to the US). That, and PayPal now being an off-shoot of EBay rather than an incorporated entity makes it very difficult to do the things that were so easy beforehand..

Thats mad I would have thought Belfast would be easier. I used to buy a lot of sort of ambient/experimental or electronica CDs from UK but apart from postage charges I found they were not getting delivered and I wouldnt put in claims against small indie business they blames Royal Mail. Here is a good concept album you Forteans might appreciate. "The Cult of Water" by Oddfellow's Casino narrated by Alan Moore.

I had to send a small parcel to Northern Ireland recently and it was a huge pain. Every service wanted to charge £10-£25. The cheapest service, by far, turned out to be Yodel (£6!) and - incredibly, given they tend to be rubbish - the parcel actually turned up after 3-4 days.

I do, yes.
If people tell me what they're after, I'll pull them from sale and then reissue them all in one lot with the postage combined. This also gives me a chance to reweigh the total amount of issues.
