Forteana & Weirdness On YouTube

The Bruno Hauptmann one is strange. He was executed in New Jersey. He had never been to London. Is the UK that haunted that you got ghosts visiting in from overseas?
I keep thinking there's a Visit England branch office somewhere in the afterlife.

They come over here, taking our ectoplasm, scaring our women...

Yes, it's certainly odd with another dollop of oddness on the side; sometimes I think that double dose of strangeness is one of the cornerstones of the Fortean, and generally speaking I tend to enjoy that type of event, but this one doesn't quite work for me.

The rest, I love. I could sit watching normal level-headed people telling ghost stories - without the cheesy camera tricks and sound effects and over sensationalised narration - all day long.

(I actually really like the camerawork on that documentary - it's quite spare and uncomplicated but really gets a sense of the underlying oddness of the environment, without the cheap tricks.)

Well then the Bruno Hauptmann picture aside,

This documentary touched on two of my favorites, namely railways and Forteana. The presentation was not "over the top" for me and focused on the eyewitnesses and offered an alternate explanation. Of course the door slamming shut while the professor was doing the sound and draft analysis was dramatic.

I had not known of the Bethel Green disaster, so there's a good history lesson.

Ok, that was really good. I'm going to watch it over. :)

In which case, if you haven't discovered them already, then you might enjoy the Railway Ghosts? and London Underground oddness threads.

I'm sure there are more. (I thought we had a longer London Underground thread somewhere - possibly I'm thinking of another site.)

Well, I been re-watching the 5 part series of London's Haunted Underground. Just went over part 3. That was where the figure of Bruno Hauptmann appeared in a window in a tourist's photo.

I noted previously that the Bruno Hauptmann photo taken on the Bakerloo line was unusual since he never had been anywhere near London. Baker Street Station however is a short walk to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum where the Bruno Hauptmann execution exhibit is, the one that closely resembles the figure in the photo.

I also took in a video of the Underground's long history to get some historical background. Nothing paranormal, but it was good.

I watched this alone and in the dark last night, then wished I hadn't.....it reminded me why Quatermass & the Pit put me off the tube for a long time.

It also reminded me of a not-too-awful low budget horror I watched recently, Absentia, which had a nice (too brief) little bit about missing people who get spirited away to the 'underneath' worlds..... This makes me glad I travel above ground.

Great stuff, thanks for posting that ..

Murder/horrible death porn with a fair bit of tragedy thrown in - lovely.

I can get the redditt "ghost" pics, but the unnecessary pics of 9/11 and the women who possibly got kidnapped. Why post stuff like that?

It's the first one that interests me the most (and also the last).

The only explanation I can think of is he wasn't to push someone off and then he saw the photographer.

Talking of strangeness found in photographs...http://www.conspiracyclub.co/2015/08/10/ghost-caught-on-cam-photobombers/

Joe Martinez (a drug addict at the time) decided to quit his habit after he saw what was behind his shoulder.

My son and I were looking at this one and we both definitely see it as a dog - probably a German shepard. Of course, if there was a large German shepard at the party, let alone looking over your shoulder, you'd think someone would notice!

Yes I agree, its just a shame we cant see the other photographs taken in that area. My parents had some snaps of a visit we took to Newstead Abbey, UK. In two of the outdoor photographs some form of animal (dog like) was spotted in the closest tree, up in the branches. You could clearly define its eyes, nose, mouth and neck. (its shape looked like a yorkshire terrier but with droopy looking ears.) sadly, I dont think those pictures still exist.

THE UNSETTLING MYSTERY OF THE CREEPIEST CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE
On March 30, 2015, a user named "unfavorable semicircle" joined YouTube. Five days later, the user uploaded their first video, planting the seeds of an ongoing mystery.

Titled ♐230511, the four-second video has no audio, and contains just a static brown image with a tiny, blurry hole. Since then, unfavorable semicircle has uploaded around 72,000 videos to the channel, many carrying similar hallmarks as the first: very brief and often silent, though sometimes carrying a few tantalizing clues.

Theories as to the origin of the videos range from the plausible to the absurd. Is it all a game used to recruit “agents for a super-intelligent AI computer that tries to take over the world?” Others have compared the videos to numbers stations. Still others have suggested that the channel is some kind of test, for either YouTube or a third-party user. But that theory doesn’t explain the anomalies, the videos that seem to appear at random and with no warning.

Best thing about that link - there's a SADAKO VS KAYAKO movie!

Oh, and Youtube have killed the Unfavorable Semicircle account :( Guess they finally got too creeped out.

A couple of interesting videos. Some of the stories I haven't heard before. They're a mixed bag of mysterious, paranormal and conspiracy. I find the narrator's voice slightly annoying...because he doesn't speak loudly enough. Honestly, I'd swear he's going for the ASMR effect.

A somewhat scary, but very interesting article by James Bridle. The unfathomable (self-) organization of modern media platforms. With links to strange youtube channels:

Many of these latest examples confound any attempt to argue that nobody is actually watching these videos, that these are all bots. There are humans in the loop here, even if only on the production side, and I’m pretty worried about them too.

He makes a strong argument and the examples are a little unsettling. Worth running through it.

Another one of those '16 creepy photo's' vids ..

I couldn't find a thread on general oddness with/on youtube, and didn't want to start a new thread just for this little oddity. Feel free to merge it into another thread or move it.

Anyway, I was prowling reddit's weirder corners today and someone's noticed that youtube has scrubbed the word "Matrix" from their search bar autocomplete recommendations. This is something they usually do with very controversial subjects (try typing Hitler in the search bar and see what comes up. Nothing)
All autocomplete recommendations for the word "Matrix"is now either "Matrixx", "Matrixs" or even weirder, "Matrıx." Here's the recent post on reddit and here's an older post from last year from a user who also noticed it. (picture from last link)

None of the other films from the distributors and studios are removed from the search recommendations, and the results for searching "matrix," "matrixx," "matrixs" or "matrıx" are mostly for The Matrix and are all fairly innocent. The only controversial use of the word is a conspiracy theorist called "Black Child" aka "Black Matrix" who is a prominent Sandy Hook truther. No other conspiracy theorists seems to be scrubbed.

Now I'm fairly certain Youtube isn't covering up for CERN creating a black hole portal to the matrix' cheat code console, like certain redditors do, but it's an intriguing little mystery.

It must be proof that The Matrix exists! Occam's razor says so.
