3... 2... 1... and you're back in the room.

If you're able to read the message, then I've been able to post it and the transition betwixt boards old and new has been largely successful—hurrah!

The first thing you've probably noticed is the decor—all a bit Excel 98, isn't it? Well, you may rest assured that you are not viewing the final form and we fully intend to smooth out the wrinkles and add a sprinkle of sophistication over the coming weeks. As time has been so short, we've focused our efforts on mechanics over aesthetics and have been pleased to discover that from a functional standpoint this new forum is both more powerful and more versatile than the previous one. Perhaps most importantly, it also offers a potential for future development that was previously denied to us. This is all much better than oblivion.

You'll find the place familiar yet unfamiliar; a number of the core functions are carried out just very slightly differently from the way they were on the old forum, although most are intuitive enough that you won't have to ask. In the event that you do find yourself flummoxed, lost or bemused (or you somehow manage to break something) please use this thread to raise the issue in the first place or PM a moderator in the second.

And, indeed, you will be spoilt for choice: our tired triumvirate has been complemented by Gordon Rutter, one of our new bedfellows housemates at the Charles Fort Institute. We're very grateful for his making the whole rescue effort possible and then stepping up to mop decks into the bargain.

The current roster of moderators is, therefore, as follows:

Also, while we're busy naming names, it seems fitting to thank the man who has done the majority of the technical transplant work, Rev Dino. Like Gordon, he's not one for kiss and run, and we're delighted to report that he will be staying on as the forum's administrator.

So far the board seems stable enough, but if something wildly bizarre or very urgent indeed comes up, the 'Contact us' link at the bottom of every page leads to an email account that should be monitored at (almost) all times.

For now, here's a list of known issues. It will be updated as and when more become apparent:
  • Some of our smileys are broken. These can and will be fixed, but the task is repetitive and tedious. All Now Working.
  • Inter-forum links (links on one thread that lead to another) may not be working. Again, there is a fix for this in the offing. Still broken.
  • 'Ghosting': older versions of the page are being displayed without recent changes/posts/notifications. The inelegant fix is to hit refresh multiple times until the current version is displayed. Seemingly fixed.
  • You might be receiving notifications of posts or statuses with future times. Clearly this is a glitch. Seemingly fixed.
Finally, if you have somehow arrived here having not read/agreed the new Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, it is very important that you notify us of that fact (because it shouldn't be possible). We hope to maintain the same atmosphere and style of interaction that we have always had, but it must be borne in mind that with supra-national legislation in the wind and the implications of current legislation as yet undetermined, posting practices may have to adapt to any new environment we find ourselves in with regards to copyright and data privacy. It's hard to be sure yet, but from where we now stand the biggest issue looks likely to be data protection. All that earlier discussion of 'real-world names' as usernames is (frustratingly) very important, and we're going to have to take the disclosure of any of our members' personal information far more seriously that we have in the past.

All that said—and above all—we're very glad to have you back.

Congratulations to all, it looks lovely.

I shall sleep soundly tonight (even more soundly than I did through tonight's Doctor Who)!

Great work guys!

Well done to everyone involved in pulling this off.
So slick that even my desktop shortcut icon changed.
Before ‘The Event’, I posted that what sets us apart from a lot of other sites out there was the sense of community and ‘The Contingency Plan’.
It’ll be great to see the old members pitching up over the next few days.
I guess there’ll be a few issues to iron out but once we’ve painted over the magnolia we won’t miss the old place.

Hello folks and a big thank you to everyone involved in the move - great job.

So good to be back! Thanks to everyone involved in getting the new board up and running.

Well done everyone!

Experienced some initial strange effects: required an email-authenticated password reset, and then the forum decided not to allow me logged-in access to FMB on the grounds that it thought I hadn't accepted the new rules. Phone restart sorted it
