First!
Opened but just had a flick through - clown story looks interesting...

Mine arrived yesterday but I forgot to mention it. Already read the first fairy article, quite charming. Letters are good this issue.

Enjoying this issue so far. I've just read the top Sideline on page 9, and I found it amusing. SPOILER ALERT if you really want to read it in the mag in sequence. :D

WE'RE IN HEAVEN
Everyone on Earth is now officially a citizen of Laniakea, the name given to the super-cluster of galaxies that contains our own Milky Way. The name means "immeasurable heaven" in Hawaiian - appropriate for a structure 500 million light years across that contains 100,000 galaxies and a hundred quadrillion suns. Neighbouring super-clusters are called Shapley, Hercules, Coma and Perseus-Pisces.

I don't know about yourselves, my fellow Laniakeans, but I find an irony in saying it's appropriate to call something "immeasurable" in the very sentence in which you give its measurements quite precisely. Perhaps we shouldn't have waited until we'd measured the super-cluster before naming it immeasurable.

I know, I'm insufferably pedantic. It's a bad habit!

Those accounts of real life fairy encounters are seriously freaky, especially the fire in the field one. The Wollaton driving gnomes is a great tale, nice to read first hand accounts, too.

The book review of Jan Harold Brunvand's revised Too Good to Be True made it sound great, but I got the last edition 13 years ago and was wondering if anyone knows if it's worth the upgrade? Might make a nice Christmas present - for me.

Loved this issue, a truly Fortean Fortean Times. Instantly ordered "Seeing Fairies" from the old Amazon on the strength of the extracts.

Not really into fairies (of that variety) so I've skipped those articles so far.

Comparing religions (reviewed) looks interesting, on my list.

Good stuff in Forum about BSWs. Harder to detect Bogus Socialist Workers these days. And also forum article about historical False Flag attacks.

Once again the First Forteans piece was a delight: rows between pacifists, milirarists, socialists, conservatives.

More fun in Witchcraft, Medical Bag in Strange Days.

An excellent issue, pints of beer to all the FT staff and contributors. I loved the fairies!! so much so that "seeing fairies" is on my desk right now.

I found the fairy article to be dull, and a difficult read. Aren't fairies rather old hat? Discuss!

i have a lot to say about fairies...but with the forum armageddon about to hit it doesn't seem worth while saying it...

Go on titch, give us your views.

I found the middle section quite a slog to be honest. Not into fairies but each to their own I suppose. Probably plenty of people who find the articles I enjoy boring.

Still pulling out and reading back numbers at random from the pile! Interesting sideline in the Letters page of FT321 (Nov-Dec 2014) concerning a social panic in Brunei. The letter writer, a mr Gary Stocker, notes that he was resident in Brunei when the story spread that the Sultan was going to hallow a new building complex by human sacrifice and having freshly harvested human heads interred in the foundations. In order to minimise the risk of being abducted by a snatch squad who were out to collect said heads from loyal subjects, people indulged in massive over-buying of staples like rice and hoarded them, so that they would then isolate themselves at home and minimise the risk of being seen out ,and therefore being at risk of becoming the human sacrifice. As a result shop shelves emptied and prices ratcheted up with a consequent black market.... does all this sound oddly and recently familiar?
