To the best of my recollection, 'conversations' (private messages) do not appear in one's posting history.

That still doesnt explain the fact that i didnt write the message and my phone was in my pocket at the time the message was sent, i dont, as a rule, send pms and if i do there is always a purpose to them, not just random messages, or the fact its closed to new replies, i dont even know how to do that.

The time you received the alert has no obvious relevance to the time the Conversation was initiated.

You don't know when the Conversation was started. The alert was telling you that a like had been issued on a Conversation that already existed (and had closed).

According to the pm details, the conversation started at 4:43pm yesterday, a time im almost 100% sure my phone was in my pocket, and why and how was the conswrsation closed, i have no idea how to do that. As i said above, i rarely use the PM function, and when i do it is for a specific reason, not just to send random nonsensical messages, thats not something i do. In total i have only ever PMed one other member privately, all my other PMs have been to staff members.

Pocket dial, maybe? I've taken my phone out of my pocket and found a gibberish draft email before.

My phone needs a code to unlock it and the message had a title along with the message, neither of which are something i would normally do, and as i said i dont know how to lock a conversation, this is the message

I cant explain it, its certainly written with purpose, as oppose to pocket dial gibberish, but i didnt write it.

Well, that looks very much to me like a standard (if very short) conversation, however it may have been generated. Souleater, did you maybe try to post to Lord Lucan's profile? Or to reply to a post by LL that then vanished?

The shortness of the conversation is anotjer part of the strangeness, it looks like the comment was posted and locked straight away so no reply could take place, as for a vanishing reply to a LL post, not that i can remember, and certainly not with a comment such as that, im just bemused, and cant explain it, i still dont even know how to lock a conversation.

As i said before, my phone needs a code to unlock it, so bum dialing isnt possible.

It's still possible if you accidentally touch the screen before the lock kicks in after you finish a call or text. Sometimes it might be the case closing on the screen.

My phone does this and it happened last night in t'supermarket.

Thusly -

Me (texting) 'At Asda, need anything?'
Friend (texting) 'Coffee please!'
Me (texting) 'OK won't be long'
Me (*closes phone case, catches screen, inadvertently rings friend*)
Friend *shrieking* What? What? Can you hear me? etc

I can understand that but i always turn my phone to standby before i put it in my pocket, its in my front jeans pocket not the back, to access pming someone i would have to select their name, press 'start conversation' enter a title name, press ok, then type the message, that resembles the title, press ok, then lock the conversation, which i still dont know how to do, and all of this whilst my phone is in my pocket, (if it was unlocked which it wasnt) it is pushing the bounds of believability,

In going over my account details it occurred to me, not for the first time, that the options for 'Gender' are rather limited, and I debated asking about that, but then it further occurred to me that that particular piece of information doesn't seem to serve any actual purpose on the forum. It doesn't appear to be displayed anywhere, like on your profile, for example.

Does it serve a purpose, or is it entirely superfluous?

Superflous.

We genuinely aren't interested in the race or gender of our membership; please leave the field blank. The only labels that should unite us here are 'Fortean' or 'Fortean Curious'. What you consider yourself to be is entirely a personal matter.

The software here is largely 'off the shelf' and we certainy have no inclination to spend time or money tinkering with it without good reason; least of all to enter the incredible spectacle of the contemporary gender debate.

Crikey Souleater you've had a fortean 'Fortean forums' experience! You should post on IHTM. :p

Why is the Pentagon UFO thread closed...?

Why is the Pentagon UFO thread closed...?

Because it's been filled with tangential / off-topic posts to the point it's useless in its current form.

It's due for major pruning, and it's been closed until it can be edited into some semblance of what it purports to be about.

There are times when I think all the threads could be called "Stuff I just thought of" based on the tangents they take. Of course I would never post something to a thread just to make a tangential and unnecessary comment.

No, really...

The "Pentagon Finally Admits" thread pruning / renovation has been completed, and it's been reopened with a new title:

US Military: UFO Investigations, Knowledge & Disclosure(s)
https://forums.forteana.org/index.p...-investigations-knowledge-disclosure-s.65864/

Multiple tangents have been spun off into their own threads, and multiple other threads containing material about recent sightings and their effect in motivating the upcoming Pentagon UAP report have been merged into this one.

@Souleater

This is not a news aggregator site.

If you have something to say about what's happening in Burma, we'll be happy to read it.

We now have six consecutive posts from you, five from the same source. The reason you are getting no responses to them is because you are not saying anything.

The latest one will be deleted if you have no personal thoughts to add to the matter.

Edit: your comments in website issues, not here, please.
I find it difficult to comment on the political situation in Myanmar, this is due to the ban on talking about politics on the site, personall i am disgusted with the brutal slaughter of innocents by the military in a bid to reclaim the power they lost in the democratic elections, i think the UN should deploy peacekeepers to protect the civilians, but the UN is a political body and we cannot discuss this, please advise me on how to comment on a political coup with out talking about politics.
There for all i can do is keep the thread updated as best i can, as nobody else is without comment.

If you can't post something without breaking rules and guidelines then don't post it.

This isn't somewhere that is designed for what you are trying to do. This is a fortean site with a mainstream news section which is constantly under review to see if it is needed.

Your assumption that it is your role to act as our conscience is... unwise. People here know how to use news sites as well as traditional news media. Some people here have family in the area - when they post we tend to listen! You have no idea about what the rest of us get up to in the political arena sop don't presume you do please.

I repeat:

If you can't post something without breaking rules and guidelines then don't post it.

I will make sure i add a trite comment before each article i post in future. Taking inspiration from your fellow moderator.

As humans we get it wrong sometimes but we do try to model what is needed - referring to an appropriate way of dealing with some of the problems caused by as "trite" is unhelpful and unnecessary. It also suggests that you haven't understood the reasons behind the guidelines.

Please appreciate the differences between sections of this place - fortean, MSN, Chat, and so on. Please also review the guidelines to understand why they are as they are.

Links without your own content don't belong here; we have explained why. Politics without your own content really doesn't belong here, even in Mainstream News; we have explained why.

Many of us have specialised or particular political interests. We don't post about them here.

If you can't post something without breaking rules and guidelines then don't post it.

It's normal and appropriate ...

You were attempting (perhaps by following a link in a quote within a post) to access prior posted material which has been removed from the publicly accessible areas of the forum.
