its a big one! Mr Pegrum said: "The bun should last for years. We're confident."

Giant bun breaks record
A baker claims he has baked the world's widest and heaviest hot cross bun, but it fell flat on height.
Paul Pegrum has created a 42.8-kilogramme bun, smashing the current weight record of 38 kilogrammes. A weights and measures inspector found it was 4ft 4in wide, but only just over five inches high, compared to a current record of 6.75 inches.
The bun will be on display at an amusement park in West Sussex throughout the Easter weekend.

Nothing like a good bun story. :D

Here in Canada having really big buns isn't generally considered a good thing.

Nonny

Now this actually is a Fortean subject, as anyone from Cornwall will tell you.

We certainly have enormous pasties :D
What happened to the DenbyDale pie? has it been banned by eec law as unhygeneic?

I was thinking of the piskie (sp?) buns Brian, that were kept in the rafters till they went mouldy, and brought down and fed to the sick when necessary. Early penicillin some have said. :cross eye

Pa. Pizzeria Goes for Record-Size Pizza

By DAN NEPHIN, Associated Press Writer Mon Mar 20, 6:48 PM ET

PITTSBURGH - A pizzeria is vying for a spot in Guinness World Records for the world's largest commercially available pizza. The $99, 150-slice pizza isn't a one-time deal. In fact, The Big One is already available, though Mama Lena's Pizza House has had few takers so far.

The would-be recordsetter measures about 3 feet by 4 1/2 feet and takes up nearly all the space in the shop's brick oven.

The current record holder is a 4-foot diameter pizza offered by Paul Revere's Pizza in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Dubbed the Ultimate Party Pizza, it uses more than 10 pounds of dough, 48 ounces of sauce and about five pounds of cheese.

A tip for Mama Lena customers: Call ahead. The Big One takes about 15 minutes to prepare and another 20 to 25 minutes to bake, said Rob Carrabbia, whose wife, Wendy, owns the pizzeria in the suburban Pittsburgh town of McKees Rocks.

"The only way you're looking to order it is if you want a big pizza," Carrabbia said.

Mama Lena's was already offering a 30-inch by 30-inch, 64-slice pizza when Carrabbia read about the current record holder in a trade magazine and figured he could beat it.

"If I'm already making one this big, I can make one another half as big again," he said.

The pizza has been on the menu for more than a year. So far, about 10 have been sold, including for birthday parties and to a school for its basketball team.

"It's 20 pounds of dough, it's a 1 gallon of sauce, 15 pounds of cheese and a lot of tender love and care," Carrabbia said Monday. "We cook the old fashion way, stone and cornmeal."

Carrabbia said Guinness requires that the pizza's making be videotaped and witnessed by a public official. He planned to attempt the record Monday.

Besides the novelty, Carrabbia said anyone who orders The Big One is getting a bargain.

"It's less than a dollar a slice" for a plain cheese pizza, he said. Toppings are extra and a white pizza — no red sauce, but garlic, cheese and marinated tomatoes — costs $120.99.

The category is different from the world's largest pizza. That record was set in 1990 in South Africa, where Norwood Hypermarket made a pizza 122 feet, eight inches in diameter, using 9,920 pounds of flour, 3,968 pounds of cheese and 1,984 pounds of sauce.

For its 50th anniversary in 1994, Guinness named that pizza one of its top 10 most astounding feats.

Giant porridge bowl breaks record

Giant porridge bowl breaks record

The giant vat of porridge weighed in at 66.26kg
The world's biggest bowl of porridge has been cooked in Warwickshire to highlight the benefits of breakfast.
The giant vat at the National Farmers' Union (NFU) headquarters in Stoneleigh weighed in at 66.26kg (146lb), local trading standards officers said.

It was served up by farmers and members of the Territorial Army to promote UK farming and encourage more people to eat a healthy breakfast.

NFU president Peter Kendall said the porridge tasted "absolutely fantastic".

But he added that there was a serious message from farmers.

"We can produce all the ingredients for a great British breakfast, he said.

"Nutritionists show that having a good breakfast sets you up mentally and helps concentration - it's a great way to start the day."

Pupils from the nearby Crackley Hall school in Kenilworth helped polish off the porridge.

World's largest Snickers bar unveiled in Texas

Candy maker Mars Wrigley set a new Guinness World Record by producing a massive Snickers bar weighing in at 4,728 pounds.

The company said the Snickers bar, unveiled Thursday at the Mars Wrigley plant in Waco, measures 12 feet long, 24 inches high and 26 inches wide.

The candy bar is the equivalent of 43,000 regular-sized Snickers bars.

Guinness confirmed the gargantuan confection met the record-keeping organization's requirements to capture the record for the world's largest chocolate nut bar. The requirements state the bar must be at least 80 percent chocolate and nuts and the entire bar must be fit for human consumption.

Giant Reese's Take 5 bar takes Guinness record from massive Snickers

The Hersey Co. unveiled a Reese's Take 5 bar that weighs 5,943 pounds, taking the Guinness World Record from a giant Snickers bar created just two weeks earlier.

Hershey took the record Friday morning when a Guinness adjudicator at Hershey's Chocolate World in Hersey, Pa., verified the weight of the giant candy bar that measures 9 feet by 5.5 feet.

The giant Take 5 bar, which contains layers of peanut butter, caramel, nuts, pretzels and chocolate, was verified to be larger than the 4,728-pound Snickers bar unveiled by Mars Wrigley just two weeks earlier.

"It's in the spirit of competition. We saw them do it and we're like, 'Hey we have a chocolate and nut bar that tastes way better,'" Hershey's spokeswoman Kaylee Dugan told Penn Live.

I suppose the cynical interpretation is that the original (lunch) tasters didn't complain for fear of being fired, and the later (homeless) beneficiaries were simply thankful to have anything to eat.
