I've found several references to giant humanoids sea monsters that sound pretty interesting.
One was described by Samuel de Champlain called the Gou Gou by the native americans of the area.

Another is called Bo Bo and/or the Old man of Monterey Bay of California's Montery Bay submarine canyons which are over a mile deep.
This pleasant fellow has been seen on several occasions supposedly in the 1800-1900's. It was extensively covered in a book called Mysterious Sea Monsters of California's Central Coast with the encounters and some illustrations of it.
It is humanoid with a fanged quasi ape like face with longish seeweedy hair. BoBo has been described to be anywhere from 12 ft tall from the upper chest area to head that was visible above the surface to 30 ft tall. There are also some more ordinary sea serpent sightings in the same area .
In another book which was called Giants of the Sea or something along those lines there was mention and a pen and ink drawing of a giant humanoid creature coming ashore from a rainy rough sea. This was of
Norwegian origin and described as a sea troll I think.
I think this is a somewhat refreshing change from the reports of the usual garden variety sea serpent and giant squid sightings. Maybe a bit more creepy since the first thing that comes to mind is that japanese monster movie War of the Gargantuas and it's giant sea going man eating humanoid monster the Green Gargantua.
Does anyone know of any more tales or folklore about this type of sea beastie?
