Interesting side note: Guy L Playfair, who comes across as a fairly reliable source on these things, wrote about a case he came across whilst living in Brazil and researching the weird. A woman once disrupted a voodou shrine she found on a beach and took one of the artefacts home with her as a souvenir. Which if you live in Brazil could be interpreted as asking for it, rather like picking up an interesting stone on a volcano in Hawaii as a memento of your holiday. For some months afterwards she was troubled by a very specific sort of poltergeist who got into bed with her, and... this ended when a practitioner of santeria told her she was a complete bloody idiot, whatever the Portuguese is for that, and said she was to go back to that spot on the beach, apologise profusely, and leave a peace offering. At which point the regular visitations from her incubus ceased. (Interesting how Catholic mythology meets voudou here.) It's in one of Playfair's books, anyway.
