Great Acts Of Stupidity

Spiders might have their good points, but just for once I'd like to be able to walk out my front door without walking into a web

This German fellow drove himself to an appointment to ensure he made it on time. Unfortunately, the appointment was for his driving test and he's now in trouble ...
Missing the point: Man in Germany drives to driving test

A man in Germany has discovered the hard way that it’s best to get a driving license first before trying to use it.

Police in Bergheim, near Cologne, said Tuesday that the 37-year-old drove himself to his driving test, parking an Opel Zafira outside the test center in front of an astonished examiner.

They said he told police officers who were called to the scene on Monday that he had only driven because he wanted to make sure to get to the driving test on time.

His test was immediately called off. The man now faces an investigation for driving without a license. ...

Cops: Webcam Model Shot Self In Private Parts

A webcam model accidentally shot herself in the vagina with a 9mm handgun while recording a video earlier this month in her Georgia home, according to a police report.

Responding to an “accidental gunshot wound” call at a residence in Thomaston, a city 40 miles from Macon, a sheriff’s deputy encountered an EMS worker in the property’s driveway around noon on November 9.

The paramedic--who was holding an unloaded handgun and a spent bullet casing in her hands--explained that, “the female had shot herself in her vagina, accidentally.”

...deputies determined that Lauren Hunter Daman, 27, was apparently alone inside her bedroom when the gun discharged.

Jordan Allen, who said he owned the firearm, told deputies he was in the kitchen when he heard a gunshot. Upon reaching the bedroom, he found Daman (seen above) with “a small amount of blood” on her leg. Allen “advised that she started saying that she was sorry. He advised that she told him that she shot herself accidentally.”

Allen told deputies that “Daman has ‘subscribers’ on a sexual web platform called ‘Chatter’” and that she “makes sexual videos of herself and people pay her to see them.” Allen “advised that he thinks that she was recording a video at the time the gun went off.”

It appears that the “web platform” to which Allen referred is actually Chaturbate, a popular adult site that lets models receive “tips” from viewers in return for the performance of requested sex acts.

Daman was transported from her home to the parking lot of the Upson County Sheriff’s Office, where a helicopter then flew her to a Macon hospital (from which she was released this week).

This could go into many categories:

On the N216 near Nieuwpoort, a Ferrari crashed into a tree this afternoon. The car had just been out of the garage for a test drive. According to the police, the driver and the co-driver were "not life-threateningly injured" and were taken to the hospital for check-up.

According to a local police officer, the accident happened after the driver lost control of the steering wheel. "The car went off the road, drove through the roadside and over the bike path and then came to a stop against a tree," writes the neighborhood police officer on Instagram. The car was declared a total loss and picked up by a salvage company.

The car dealer where the Ferrari comes from, does not want to say much about the circumstances of the accident to the regional broadcaster Rijnmond. According to the company, this is still being investigated. At the time of the crash, the owner of the car dealership was in the vehicle, along with a potential buyer. "We are especially happy that they have come off reasonably well," the car dealership said.

There are better ways to eliminate snakes from a house than trying to smoke them out with live coals.
Maryland homeowners burned down their home while attempting to rid the house of snakes

What started as an attempt to get rid of pesky creatures ended with an entire house going up in flames.

A house of nearly 10,000 square feet in Dickerson, Maryland, an hour west of Baltimore, was engulfed in flames on November 23 when the homeowner tried to smoke out a snake infestation on the property, Pete Piringer, chief spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, told CNN.

Piringer said snakes had been an ongoing issue for this owner and the previous tenant as well.

Coals were used as the heat source for the smoke, but they were placed too close to combustible materials, eventually setting the house on fire ...

The damages will cost more than $1 million, Piringer said. The house was recently purchased for $1.8 million, according to public records.

The fire department deemed the incident an accident as there was no evidence, or intention, of starting the fire. ...

Being that there was no one home at the time, there were no injuries reported.

The status of the snakes is unknown, but as the home was left in rubble, it's assumed they no longer live there.

Marechaussee arrests A12 man who still has to sit for 15 years
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee arrested a German man last night on the A12 near Zevenaar who still has to serve a prison sentence of 15 years. The man was convicted of murder and was wanted internationally.

The man fell through the basket during a check. He was found to be in possession of a forged passport.

A mobile team of the Marechaussee checks more often at Zevenaar, near the German border. The A12 is part of the so-called 'White Russia route', which migrants from countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan use. The Marechaussee holds short-term checks on people smuggling at various places in the border area.

During inspections this year, the Marechaussee has already had 1300 alerts of people who are wanted, but also whether someone still has to pay fines or, for example, still have to donate DNA. Also, so far this year, 230 people have been arrested on suspicion of human smuggling.

What. Could. Possibly. Go. Wrong?!

There was an article I saw online a few years ago about search and rescue outfits in National Parks and other places like that having to rescue idiots repeatedly. The term "Yuppie 911" was used. Some of the stories were amazing. One group of fools called in a rescue because they were thirsty. I think that was the group that was fined and thrown out of the park after the third episode. As I recall, the article named them all, and mentioned where they were from. :twothumbs:

A woman drove her car on the semi-frozen Rideau River, crashed through the ice and then took a selfie to commemorate the event whilst others tried to rescue her. Unsurprisingly, the police have charged her with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle:

Might have gone very badly indeed, considering how emergency workers aren't supposed to endanger themselves or anyone else.
Someone could have decided to wait for the helicopter.

Heh, some of the "Missing 411" cases seem to be just that... cases where weird shit happened because an idiot was hiking. Like... one of them was a guy whose dead body was found at the bottom of a cliff and his last known position when alive was at the top. Doesn't take a huge leap of logic to figure out how he died.

Sure... "WTF? Why would anyone do THAT?!?!?" is a reasonable reaction... but.... while the why may be a mystery, what and how really aren't.

I have to concede this 15-year-old student remained calm and nonchalant after publicly accepting a dare that cost both his nipples.
Schoolboy loses both nipples after classroom dare involving two cans of Lynx

The then 15-year-old schoolboy was dared by a friend and accidentally 'froze' his nipples off in front of a crowd, before going to his next lesson

A student lost his nipples after he was dared to squirt two cans of body spray on them, causing the body parts to fall off.

The boy, who was not named, was in his school changing room when someone challenged him to empty two cans onto his exposed chest.

Immediately afterwards someone flicked his nipples, causing them to pop off. ...

An er..friend was visited the other day by a neighbour. I My friend wasn't feeling too well so after they chatted at the door for a bit, my friend decided just to lock the door behind the neighbour as she wasn't going out again and went upstairs for the key. "Just throw it down to me" said the neighbour " I'll lock the door and throw the key back up to you, save you coming back down the stairs". "Okay" said my friend and threw the key down. Neighbour looks at the door and pauses..

"I can't lock the door then throw the key back up"

A Utah college student decided to cook up five pounds of rocket fuel in his dorm unit's kitchen. The resultant fireball scorched the kitchen, combined with the subsequent sprinkler deluge, left him and 21 other students displaced.
College dorm damaged by explosion caused by a resident making rocket fuel; 22 students displaced

A resident at a college dorm in Utah decided to try to make rocket fuel on his kitchen stove, leading to a fireball causing serious property damage, according to police.

Now, 22 students are displaced from their dorm in Provo, Utah.

The experiment mishap occurred at the on-campus housing at Brigham Young University (BYU) Sunday afternoon. A 22-year-old male resident told police he was trying to recreate something he saw online when he decided to try to make rocket fuel, and it was not a school project.

The ingredients used to make the compound were common items bought at the store, BYU Police Lt. Jeff Long told CNN.

The resident was making about five pounds of the substance when it overheated, causing a fireball to erupt in the kitchen ... Flames from the explosion engulfed the walls and ceiling around the stove triggering the fire sprinklers in the building, which flooded the main floor ... Provo firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the rest of the fire ...

Thankfully, no one was injured ...

"It was definitely poor judgment on this person," said Long. "He didn't think this through."

Due to the fire and water damage from the sprinklers, 22 residents have been displaced. Police are still investigating the incident and have not yet been able to determine the amount of damage to the structure and personal property.

"Please keep your experiments in the lab and supervised by trained professionals," read a Facebook post by BYU police. ...

The title says it all really - a former playing field on a flood plain was approved for housing but is already under water before any building has started.

Cheshire housing site on flood plain badly waterlogged ahead of building work

A housing estate to be built on a floodplain in Chester has been badly waterlogged before building work had a chance to begin. The site on Sealand Road was subject to a nine-year-long planning dispute. After several appeals and a public inquiry, plans were approved in April.

Aerial pictures of the site sent to CheshireLive show much of the site surrounded by water. A resident said: "They seem to be trying to pump it out 24/7. Luckily the planning permission had to include room between the houses for boats and flood defences on the doors with plug sockets at 1.30 [metres].

"It’s a little ironic that they can’t even get the building work started because of the flooding on the site," they added.

Welp, build a solid enough foundation and it'll be fine :D Might be a slab of concrete 12 feet thick, but hey....
Yup, just divert that floodwater somewhere else. The estate across the road, maybe. :chuckle:

Well, maybe just build on stilts? Sure, needs pilings, but that displaces less water. :D

At any rate, this flood is presumably temporary? If not the lot should be recategorized as "Marshland". Either way you need a platform that's above the water level.

Or given that we run out of water every time there are unprecidented weather events (Summer) they could build a reservoir somewhere?

It's an established flood plain, in an area which rising sea levels are expected to affect badly in years to come.
In fact it should be underwater by 2050 according to the Climate Central map -
