I bid £2:33p Trump only wants it so if they start a war with Russia they have somewhere to have it without getting America all messed up.
 
The way things are going, I wouldnt be surprised if it does happen.

Did any one else, way back when the subject of Greenland in the current political context first reared its head, entertain the horrible suspicion that quite a few people people (including some very powerful individuals) may not fully understand the Mercator projection effect.

I couldn't help but imagine a Father Ted moment: a globe and a map, instead of the cows:

'This is Greenland…but the Greenland over here is an artefact of cylindrical projection.'

Denmark's foreign minister says he will summon the US ambassador to address a report that Washington's spy agencies have been told to focus on Greenland amid Donald Trump's threats to take over the island.

"It worries me greatly because we do not spy on friends," Lars Løkke Rasmussen said, responding to the report in The Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper, US spy agencies were told to focus efforts on the semi-autonomous country's independence movement, and American goals to extract mineral resources there.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard accused the Journal of attempts to "undermine" President Trump "by politicizing and leaking classified information".

While not denying the report, she accused the newspaper of "breaking the law and undermining our nation's security and democracy".

Rasmussen, who was attending an EU ministers meeting in Warsaw, said the report was "somewhat disturbing".

"We are going to call in the US acting ambassador for a discussion at the foreign ministry to see if we can confirm this information," Rasmussen said.

The real reason besides geog-strategic control of open polar seas as the ice caps melt for positioning of naval and air assets, supply lines, etc is they just found a mother load of rare earth minerals as well as the energy resources for the tech bro oligarchs to build the massive data centers needed for A.I. It is classic for nations to grasp precious regional resources from weaker powers. What Trump is doing in his erratic way is simply stating long term strategic objectives that are usually discussed behind closed doors. The idea that he thought this all up is probably foolish, he is an instrument of others. Not saying I agree with the whole idea, just that it is comprehensible.

That plus he sees lots of real estate deals dancing like sugarplums in his declining cupidity.

Still hasn't transitioned from reality star, huckster, and real estate mogul to a leader mentality, not that anyone is waiting.

In fact we in the states are getting a bit bored.

The problem is the people behind him are much more efficient in their cruelty and disregard for morality and the common good, so hope he is there till after the midterms and then we will see if there is any hope left : ) I think there is a good chance he will be removed from power by military intervention. If not he won't be very coherent in 4 years at the rate of decline.

The real long term problem is likely Peter Thiel who also happens to chair the Bilderberg Group.

Mexico sues Google over 'Gulf of America' name change​

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office in January.
He argued the change was justified because the US "do most of the work there, and it's ours".

In January, Sheinbaum wrote a letter to Google asking the firm to reconsider its decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico for US users. The following month, she threatened legal action.

At the time, Google said it made the change as part of "a longstanding practice" of following name changes when updated by official government sources.
It said the Gulf - which is bordered by the US, Cuba and Mexico - would not be changed for people using the app in Mexico, and users elsewhere in the world will see the label: "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)".

The Associated Press (AP) news agency's refusal to start referring to the Gulf of America led to a months-long conflict with the White House, which restricted AP's access to certain events.

A federal judge ordered the White House in April to stop sidelining the outlet.

Trump hinted Wednesday that he may recommend changing the way the US refers to another body of water.

During an upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia, he plans to announce that the US will henceforth refer to the Persian Gulf as the Arabian Gulf or the Gulf of Arabia, AP reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has responded by saying he hopes the "absurd rumours" are "no more than a disinformation campaign" and such a move would "bring the wrath of all Iranians".
