Just seen the new Groolsch ad.
Won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, bit of great Fortean/Spielberg reference.

There has been a lot of news generated by their recent study/publicity stunt:

Aliens' top holiday spots

Two areas of London - Walthamstow and Lewisham - have made the top 10 in a survey of areas in the UK with the most UFO sightings.

Cley Hill in Wiltshire was the second most "extra-terrestrial-plagued" area of Britain. Third came the Great Orme, the North Wales beauty spot.

The survey by Grolsch beer found that as well as UFO-spotters, firefighters and police had reported seeing strange objects in the sky.

It could be the whisky or possibly the haggis - but, whatever the reason, aliens seem a bit partial to Scotland.

Anyone wishing to be abducted by the little green men would be well advised to take the High Road - to Bonnybridge, to be precise.

The Stirlingshire town has the highest number of reported UFO sightings in Britain, with more than 100 every month, research shows.

Residents there have also claimed the greatest variety of spaceships, describing everything from flying saucers to hovering cigars. Witnesses include not only the usual UFO watchersand cranks, but everyone from firemen to a police helicopter pilot.

In fact, locals want their town to be twinned with Roswell, in New Mexico, where it was claimed a spaceship came down in 1947 and was taken to a secret military base.

The findings are revealed in a study by Grolsch, which has compiled a list of Top 40 UFO hotspots in a booklet How To Be Abducted By Aliens.

'You can be abducted by aliens anywhere and at any time,' said UFO expert Christopher Martin, who claims to have been kidnapped by a ship. 'But the classic abduction happens at night when you're lying in bed and you're awakened by a bright light.

'You are lifted or floated out of your room, often through the walls, and brought on to a spaceship.'

Up to 40,000 Britons and 4million Americans claim to have ben kidnapped by aliens. But Nick Pope, who ran the UFO desk at the MoD for three years, said the number of sightings could be far higher.

'We must take into account widespread under-reporting due to the fear of ridicule,' he added

Alien abduction hotspots

By SIMON WORTHINGTON

RE-OPEN the X-files . . . experts have pinpointed the 40 top spots to be abducted by aliens in Britain.

Researchers studied reported UFO sightings across the country to compile a list of places to experience encounters with extra-terrestrial beings.

Top of the list is Bonnybridge in Lanarkshire — scene of more alien sightings than anywhere else in the UK.

Cley Hill, Wilts, claims second place, followed by The Great Orme — a beauty spot near the North Wales seaside resort of Llandudno.

But aliens do not just stick to the countryside, it seems. Walthamstow, East London, and Lewisham, South London, also make the top ten.

Up to 40,000 Britons and four million Americans claim to have been kidnapped by visitors from another planet.

Bonnybridge has been dubbed the UFO capital of the world by some enthusiasts.

Locals have called for it to be twinned with Roswell, New Mexico — famed for its alleged involvement with a crashed “alien spacecraft” in 1947.

The UK top 40 was compiled by leading UFO expert Nick Pope for Grolsch beer.

The research, part of a booklet called How To Be Abducted By Aliens, accompanies a new TV ad that shows beings from space attempting a kidnap.

Nick, who ran the Ministry of Defence’s UFO desk from 1991 to 1994, said: “It is difficult to arrive at a precise number of sightings in any one place as there is no central data collection point.

“We must also take into account widespread under-reporting due to fear of ridicule and the fact most people are unsure where to submit reports.

“However, it is certainly possible to gauge the intensity of current UFO activity.

“Our listed hotspots exhibit up to 20 times as many sightings as anywhere else.”

Aliens' Top Holiday Spots... in Beer Firm Survey

By Jude Sheerin, Scottish Press Association

A small Scottish town was today named UFO capital of the UK in a survey.

Bonnybridge in Stirlingshire topped a league of 40 “alien encounter” sites in the research.

Cley Hill in Wiltshire was the second most “extra-terrestrial-plagued” area of Britain. Third came the Great Orme, the North Wales beauty spot.

Researchers found that aliens seemed to be equally fond of the city, with two areas of London – Walthamstow and Lewisham – making the top 10.

Bedhampton in Hampshire also made it on to the list because of several “sightings” filmed by a local man which have never been explained.

The survey by Grolsch beer found that as well as UFO-spotters, firefighters and police had reported seeing strange objects in the sky.

The depute provost of Falkirk Council, Billy Buchanan, 55, whose constituency covers Bonnybridge, said he thought the town might be a porthole to another dimension.

“We have two major alien abduction cases here at the moment and my wife and I saw a strange triangular craft the size of a battleship hovering above our house last week for three nights,” he said.

There have been more than 60,000 sightings of flying saucers in the town (population 5,500), which has been dubbed ‘Costa Del Sol’ for little green men.

Beer maker lists alien abduction hotspots

LONDON, April 8 (UPI) -- A German beer manufacturer has sponsored the publication of the 40 best spots to be abducted by aliens in Britain, The Sun reported Thursday.

The author of "How to be Abducted by Aliens" is Nick Pope, who ran the Ministry of Defense's UFO desk from 1991 to 1994.

The top spot for abduction claims is Bonnybridge in Lanarkshire where locals have called for the town to be twinned with Roswell, N.M., famed for its alleged involvement with a crashed alien spacecraft in 1947.

But the report said aliens do not just stick to the countryside, as locations in both east and south London made the list.

As many as 40,000 Britons and 4 million Americans claim to have been kidnapped by visitors from another planet, the newspaper said.

The release of the booklet coincides with a television advertising campaign for Grolsch beer showing aliens attempting to take up a human.

Close encounter at Great Orme

Apr 8 2004

By Steve Bagnall Daily Post

ALIEN abductions are generally considered the stuff of legend, Hollywood, and conspiracy theories.

However new research by brewing giant Grolsch has named the Great Orme as one of Britain's top places for extra- terrestrial kidnappings.

As part of an out-of-this-world advertising campaign, the Dutch company points to a catalogue of reported sightings which make the Llandudno beauty spot the UK's third most likely spot to witness a close encounter of the space kind.

They included multiple UFO sightings in 1997 and a family which claimed to have lost five hours after being followed by a triangular shaped craft.

Conwy tourism bosses said they were delighted the beauty spot figured so highly.

They welcome everybody, they said, even those from beyond planet Earth.

"We have visitors from across the globe already and we would be happy to welcome those from further afield also," said Coun Eddie Woodward, cabinet member for economic development and regeneration, which includes tourism.

"Llandudno has something for everybody."

There have been hundreds of UFO sightings across North Wales stretching back decades.

Great Orme is a hotspot for UFOs

Apr 15 2004

North Wales Weekly News

THERE have been no reports of little green men landing there, but it seems the Great Orme in Llandudno is a hotspot for UFO sightings.

Author and ufologist Nick Pope has recently compiled a list of the top 40 vantage points for sightings, and it seems the Orme comes in at number three, although quite how Mr Pope came to this conclusion is a little unclear, as he admits there is no true system for recording data.

However, he claims that, during research for a booklet on the subject to accompany a television advertising campaign for Dutch lager Grolsch, a number of references to sightings of UFOs from the Orme were uncovered.

Mr Pope, who is widely respected in UFO circles and ran the Ministry of Defence's UFO desk from 1991-94, commented: "It is difficult to arrive at a precise number of sightings in any one place as there is no central data collection point.

"We must also take into account widespread under-reporting due to fear of ridicule, and the fact most people are unsure where to submit reports.

"However, the listed hotspots exhibit up to 20 more sightings than anywhere else."

In first place in the league table is Bonnybridge in East Kilbride, Scotland, followed by Cley Hill, Wiltshire, and then the Orme. Manchester, Liverpool, and Denbigh are also in the top 25.
