I mostly hate the leg room on buses!

I end up using two seats and sit sideways (unless someone wants the other seat )because I bend the chair In front with my knees a bit.

And you constantly ripping your t-shirt off infront of all and sundry can't help matters!

 Nah, I only do that and film It In private.

Can;t always give the public a treat.

No, I wasn't. I was 6'5", and then lost around two inches of height due to an operation. I was previously six inches taller than the girl about whom we were speaking.

And I don't have any hair on my head (well, I do, but it's about a millimetre in length.)

Buses are resolutely not designed for anyone over six feet tall, though, let alone broader than average.

Nor are seats on Cinemas and planes...well, the cheap ones, Easyjet etc

Well, it is the same situation for us tall people as it is for fat people. Bigger seats means less seats in the plane/bus/cinema, and so lower profits, which the companies don´t want. Nothing to do with discrimination. Of course you could have a "fat row" in cinemas for a slightly higher price.

Dunno what you really tall people do; I find that seats in cinemas, planes etc. allow no legroom and I'm only 5'8".

I try and sit on aisle seat, you get to stretch one leg then...

When I were a lass, the back rows of the local Ritz cinema had double seats. They were exactly like regular ones, only twice as wide. It's possible that they didn't tilt up though as there was also extra legroom in front. There was no extra charge for them but they filled up quickly.

They were used by couples, but I bet they'd have suited a very wide or tall person too.

I didn't use them - I was a good girl. ;)

And post the results on YouTUBE for the whole world (gay community) to see!

EDIT - er, so I've been told. Big boy.

Oi! You in the cheap seats! Keep it down! The filum's about to start.

Well, I do remember a cinema somewhere which had kissing rows. Basically two seats smacked together.

Here's a chap who finally overcame his height problem:
Tallest man finds love on doorstep
Jane Macartney in Beijing

The world’s tallest man has finally met his match, and she barely comes up to his elbow.

Bao Xishun, who measures 7ft 9in (2.36m) and lives in the Inner Mongolia region of China, has been seeking a bride for decades. At last, at the age of 56, he has found his true love and she comes from the same small town, Chifeng.

“After sending out marriage advertisements across the world and going through a long selection process, the efforts have finally paid off,” the Beijing News reported.

Xia Shujuan, his wife, is a 28-year-old saleswoman who works in a clothing store. She measures a mere 5ft 6in.

Mr Bao, who was confirmed last year by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest living man, attained his height in a seven-year growth spurt that began in his teens.

As well as herding livestock, he hires himself out for publicity stunts. In December he was called in to save the lives of two dolphins at an aquarium when he reached deep into their stomachs to pull out pieces of plastic they had swallowed.

TV tonight:

ITV1 West Country

Supersize Kids: Britain's Tallest Teens

21:00 - 22:00, Thursday, 12 July

The highs and lows of three of the nation's tallest teenagers. Nineteen-year-old Paul Sturgess stands at 7ft 7, and looks set to become the world's tallest man - as well as a millionaire basketball star in America. Less lucky are 7ft 3 Chris Lister, whose height has brought him medical problems, and 6ft 1 Tara Savage, who needs to take drugs which could prevent her having children of her own

Just my 2 cents...

I'm 7 feet tall and weigh approximately 400lbs.

Clothes are a bit difficult to find, and when I do find something that fits, it's always more expensive than an average sized item of the same make.

Amusement parks are out, for the most part. I've found that Disneyland seems to have the most accesible rides for tall people. On the other hand, most amusement parks will allow you to cut to the front of the line to see if you can fit in the ride.

Doorways and overhangs are a pain, literally. I've had two concussions from hitting the top of my head on things.

Work situations, especially anything in the industrial/manual labor field are absolutely horrible, most of the workstations that you find yourself standing at for eight hours a day are designed for average sized people, hence you must slouch to properly use tools and whatnot.

Short men tend to try to stand taller as they walk by you...I think that's mostly a subconscious reaction (my wife has noticed this, and in fact, was the one that pointed it out to me).

Questions about playing basketball/footbal (american)/wrestling get really annoying really quickly, especially as I've never cared for sports.

People automatically think I'm some sort of dolt because of my size and the fact that I have hair down to my rear, I'm not, at last check my IQ was higher than average (not saying much).

Public transit is a nightmare. Greyhound busses are hell and airplanes are not much better.

I've never found a car that I fit into really well, besided the 68 VW bus that my grandfather owned.

Small children run away from me, people cross the street to avoid me (hilarious, as I'm probably one of the nicest and most polite people I've ever met).

"How's the weather up there?" is a question that is neither witty, nor humorous.

People stare and stare and stare, which really isn't a good situation if you have poor self image.

The health problems attendant with being abnormally (some have called me "freakishly") large are manifold, especially if you can't afford a personal trainer to help out (as, I assume, most NBA, NFL and any other professional athletes have).

My knees are shot, my back is in constant agony and my shoulders are both messed up, and I'm not even 30 yet (two months to go....yay).

My appetite, even when I don't eat much, is about twice that of normal sized people that I've observed.

Falling hurts, badly and can be catastrophic (i've turned my ankles twice to the point where I couldn't walk for six weeks at a time), the old addage "The bigger they are, the harder they fall" holds true, unfortunately.

On the plus side, I've never gotten into a fight because either A) most people are scared of me until they get to know me or II) they think I'm their friend.

I never have to stand on something to see over a crowd, even if I'm in the back.

Thankfully most of the cinemas that I've been to have had ample leg room, especially in the back rows.

I can dunk a basketball without even trying, and I can palm one too (my hand are 12 inches across the palm when I stretch, measured from the tip of my pinky to the tip of my thumb).

My wife can't see the top of the refridgerator, so that makes a great hiding spot, she also can't reach the top shelves in the kitchen cabinets, so guess who gets to put the dishes away?!

My (ahem) anatomy is to scale, which makes me feel better, although I do have to be rather gentle with the missus.

I never really need help moving furniture, refridgerators, washing machines...etc..

Kids, once they get to see that I'm not some scary giant, love to climb on me like I'm a jungle gym.

Wow, I guess that's more than 2 cents worth of ranting, but I get a little tired of only seeing the shorter end of the spectrum in popular media, and felt that a little insight into the world of the fiendishly big would set some things straight in people's minds.

I like being big, I wouldn't change it if I could, but it's not always what it's cracked up to be.

Next time you see a person who's not average size (be it shorter, taller, thinner or fatter), sympathize, don't gawk. Would you like somebody staring at you?

Tallest man aims to become star

Neil Fingleton stands 7ft 7ins (2.31m) tall
Britain's tallest man has revealed plans to reach for acting stardom.
Record-breaker Neil Fingleton, from Gilesgate in County Durham, wants to capitalise on his height and talent to become a Hollywood actor.

The 26-year-old has already spent some time playing basketball in America, and is now awaiting a work permit.

He says he has received a number of offers, and is hoping he will be able to use his 7ft 7ins (2.31m) height to his advantage.

Mr Fingleton said: "There are tens of millions of people in this country, and I'm the tallest, which is a very special thing.

"So why not use it to my advantage and be recognised, not just for being tall but for being a talented actor."

He admitted that he had always been fascinated with Jaws in the James Bond films, who was obviously very tall.

"I had the privilege to meet him and did a little bit of acting work with him and it was nice to get advice from him.

"It's nice to know there are specialised roles for people like me because the strong thing about being tall and having acting ability is that when these parts come along you've got a very strong chance of getting them."

Tallest woman wants 3ft baby to outgrow her
By Our Foreign Staff
Last Updated: 1:55am BST 23/04/2008

Like mother like son. India's tallest woman, who stands 7ft 2in, claims her baby has grown to 3ft 2in in only 10 months.

Svetlana Singh says she hopes her child Karan, who already weighs three-and-a-half stone, will be the tallest man in the world.

Speaking in the family's home in Meerut, outside Delhi, Mrs Singh told how the hungry boy needs feeding an astonishing 20 times a day.

"He just doesn't stop eating and never stops growing," she said.

"He is only ten-months-old and wears clothes designed for five-year-olds.

"Karan has never fitted into baby clothes, even when he was first born he was 2ft 2in tall and was the same size as a normal two-year-old."

Husband Sanjay, who at 6ft 6in has to look up to his wife, hopes his son's height will help him become a basketball player so he can study in America.

"Both sides of our family are very tall - my father is 6ft 5in and Svetlana's father is 6ft 7in - so Karan could not really have been born any other way," he said.

Despite being proud of their size the family admit it can cause problems.

Travelling in buses and cars is almost impossible because both husband and wife have to stoop to fit in.

And shopping becomes an ordeal in itself as hordes of curious onlookers gather to stare at the couple and their giant baby.

"Despite his size everyone treats Karan normally because he is such a happy baby," said Sanjay.

"People who don't know us stare initially but Karan always wins them around with his smile and personality.

"He has a very jolly nature. He laughs and giggles a lot and has already started walking. The amount of food he demands must give him extra energy because he is very strong."

The couple, who are both doctors of naturopathy, a holistic medicine, met at university where their size immediately attracted them to each other.

"I was unsure if I would ever find a wife to match my height, but as soon as I met Svetlana I knew we would make a great couple," said Sanjay.

"I dream Karan will become a doctor like his parents. Perhaps his size will help him - we would love to send him to study in the US and he would be naturally gifted at basketball.

"We hope an American college might take him because he will be so tall.

"We will try to look after Karan and give him the best life. It would be great if he took up but I would be happy if he played any sport he liked."

World's tallest woman dies in care home
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 9:56 AM on 14th August 2008

The world's tallest woman has died at the age of 53, it has been revealed.

Sandy Allen, who stood 7ft 7in, passed away in an American nursing home in her home town of Shelbyville, Indiana.

The cause of death is not yet known.

Allen had been hospitalised in recent months as she suffered from a recurring blood infection, along with diabetes, breathing troubles and kidney failure, a family friend, Rita Rose, said.

Guinness World Records spokesman Damian Field confirmed Wednesday that Allen was still listed as the tallest woman.

Some websites cite a 7ft 9in woman from China.

Coincidentally, Allen lived in the same nursing home, Heritage House Convalescent Centre, as 115-year-old Edna Parker, whom Guinness has recognised as the world's oldest person since August 2007.

Allen said a tumour caused her pituitary gland to produce too much growth hormone.

She underwent an operation in 1977 to stop further growth.

But she was proud of her height, Rose said. "She embraced it," she said. "She used it as a tool to educate people."

Allen appeared on television shows and spoke to church and school groups to bring youngsters her message that it was all right to be different.

After Allen was listed by Guinness as the world's tallest woman, she won a role in Federico Fellini's 1976 film Casanova, appearing as Angelina the Giantess.

She was featured in the 1981 Canadian documentary Being Different.

She also appeared in a TV movie called Side Show in 1981.

She wrote to Guinness World Records in 1974, saying she would like to get to know someone her own height.

"It is needless to say my social life is practically nil and perhaps the publicity from your book may brighten my life," she wrote
.

The recognition as the world's tallest woman helped Allen accept her height and become less shy, Rose said.

"It kind of brought her out of her shell," Rose said. "She got to the point where she could joke about it."

In the 1980s, she appeared for several years at the Guinness Museum of World Records in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

"I'll never forget the old Japanese man who couldn't speak English, so he decided to feel for himself if I was real," she recalled with a chuckle when she moved back to Indiana in 1987.

"At Guinness there were days when I felt like I was doing a freak show," she said. "When that feeling came too often, I knew I had to come back home."

Difficulty with mobility had forced Allen to curtail her public speaking in recent years, Rose said. She had suffered from diabetes and other ailments and used a wheelchair to get around.

A scholarship fund has been set up in Allen's name through the Blue River Community Foundation, Rose said, with proceeds going to Shelbyville High School.

"She loved talking to kids because they would ask more honest questions," Rose said. "Adults would kind of stand back and stare and not know how to approach her."

That's a real shame. She was interviewed on a TV programme a couple of months ago and she seemed such a lovely lady.

Tall order: Long-legged airline passengers will have to pay £40 for extra legroom
By Peter Allen
Last updated at 1:07 PM on 07th November 2008

Tall airline passengers who ask for extra legroom when flying economy are to start paying £40 a time for the privilege.
Air France today became the first to introduce a supplement for the prized seats next to emergency exits or at the front of rows.
These are the ones without other seats immediately in front, meaning long legs can be stretched out comfortably.

Until now, experienced passengers have often been able to reserve the seats through nothing more than a polite request at check in.
Now, however, they will be sold off, with surcharges payable online or in phone bookings.

'It will be a small charge to have to pay for extra legroom,' said an Air France spokesman, saying the £40 will first be applied to long-haul flights.
Frequent fliers with the company's Flying Blue card will still get the seats at standard price once they reach Gold or Platinum status, the spokesman added.

The charge has already been levied on flights from France to Canada or the United States, and will now be expanded to the rest of the long-haul network.

Carriers including Air Singapore have also just started similar schemes on long-haul routes.
The idea is likely to be copied by many other airlines, as their industry struggles in the harsh economic climate.
Last month, the Air France-KLM group warned shareholders it would seek to cut costs by around pounds £1 billion over the next five years.

The number of seats with extra room varies from only four in a small A-330 regional jet ,to up to 37 in a Boeing 747.
Air France hopes that firms who are unwilling to pay for business class will buy the extra legroom seat for their executives.

Although it is often tall passengers who ask for extra legroom on flights, most people express dissatisfaction with the space they are given in economy cabins.
Awareness of illnesses including Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) has raised awareness of how dangerous it can be to spend hours on a plane with your legs scrunched up behind another seat.

The extra legroom prize supplement follows numerous money-making schemes introduced by airlines, including charging extra for food and drinks, and even for blankets and headphones to enjoy in-flight entertainment.
As well as the credit crunch, airlines have reported vast falls in profits caused by a number of factors including the fear of terrorist attack and fuel prize rises.

Bastards

BA used to be quite kind, if you wanted to sit near the emergency exit for the legroom. Apparently they get snarky about it now. Mind you, I always wonder a bit about the people who want to sit closer to the front, and run to the exit when the doors open, as if there's a risk the plane will take off again before they've had a chance to get off. What's all that about?

double b*stards.

i rarely fly but when i do, try for an isle seat just so i don't get too cramped up.

maybe next they will be charging fat people for the extra fuel needed to left their weight :(

Fat people are the next in line for major abuse from NHS and corporations, now that the smokers have all been demonised!

Don't give me a long stretch: 7ft 4in man admits car crimes but fears he'll be picked on in prison
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 7:55 AM on 12th June 2009

A 7ft 4in criminal begged a judge not to send him to jail - because he is too tall.
Christopher Lister said he feared being bullied over his height by other prisoners.
The 21-year-old, who is registered disabled, also suffers from back pain without a bed and doorways tailored to his frame.
But his pleas were in vain and he was jailed for 11 months for a string of vehicle-related offences.

Richard Wright, representing him, told the court that prison would be difficult for Lister 'not just because of his health, which is linked to his size, but you know the type of environment that exists in prison and you know that those who stand out are prone to bullying and intimidation.
'There is a real concern for him in that regard.'

Leeds Crown Court heard that on November 26 last year Lister provided a stolen van which was used in a house burglary in the Armley area of the city.
Peter Moulson, prosecuting, said a £1,800 television was stolen and loaded into the rear of the Citroen van but the vehicle got stuck outside the premises and could not be moved.
An eyewitness saw Lister and others running off and the stolen property was recovered.

Lister was arrested and bailed with a curfew while inquiries were made. But in April this year he committed two offences of interfering with motor vehicles.
One was a write-off because of the damage caused.
Lister admitted handling a stolen van, burglary, driving while disqualified and with no insurance, and two charges of interfering with vehicles.
He also admitted being in breach of a suspended six-month sentence, again for dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, when he was involved in a police chase last June at speeds of up to 100mph which ended in a collision with the police car.

Jailing Lister on Wednesday, Recorder Paul Miller said: 'Your unhealthy obsession with motor vehicles has led you to a bad position today.
'It is clear not all your problems are of your own making but you are an adult now and responsible for your actions. I hope this is a turning point for you.'

Lister, who is just three inches shorter than Britain's tallest man, described his difficulties in a TV documentary two years ago.
His parents Anita and Dave spent more than £20,000 adapting their Leeds home for him, opening doorways to the ceiling, and spending more than £1,000 on a special 7ft 6in bed.
He had hoped to train as a mechanic but found he could not work under vehicles, while his growth left him with constant back pain as his spine elongated.

Silly bugger. The 2nd tallest man in the country... did he think no-one would recognise him?

I'm 5'10" (or 181cms as I learnt on arriving in Asia) - which is pretty much completely average for the UK, I believe, but a few inches taller than many Asians. I fly to and from Asia reasonably regularly and every time the check-in staff have nodded sagely and responded 'of course' when I ask for a seat with some leg-room. In fact, in general, and with the exception of a small Chinese carrier I flew with. My flights with Asian carriers have been, by a fair old stretch, the best I've taken anywhere in the world. (I've visited 25 or so countries, most by air). Even when they are dealing with tiny-flights and old kit, the service in this part of the world is almost embarassingly attentive. Don't get me started on BA... Or the horror that is Heathrow airport.... You are cattle and they wish you had never come!
