Suggestions About Re-Organisation: Move & Merge Requests

I rescued the Freak Towns thread out of the Chat dumpster and wondered if It might be twinned with the Creepy Villages thread in It Happened To Me? They both seem to cover similar territory, despite the slight difference of emphasis in the titles. :)

The podcasts and podcasts of interest thread.

There's also the fortean podcasts thread

All 3 have elements of Fortean interest podcasts. So not sure if you want to merge all three or leave the Fortean podcast separate.

edit: The 3 threads are all pretty much fortean based tbh so could probably be merged.

Merger of these 3 threads (plus some others) is now completed.

In addition to the different thematic tones ...

The larger thread is a grab-bag of references, discussions, and first-person accounts involving a number of disparate theories and practices - some of which already have other threads dedicated to them.

It seems to me the reasonable solution is to sort them out into threads dedicated to one or another approach rather than merge everything into one even bigger mish-mash.

It's going to take a while ...

I await with bated breath the intricate weaving of threads on the loom of moderation!

The alternative medicine related stuff has now been reorganized and relabeled. This effort has involved both the elimination / absorption of relevant threads, numerous copies and transfers of posts, and the creation of new threads.

The new layout (all within Medical Forteana) is as follows:

Alternative Therapies (Generally; Overall)

For discussions of alternative medicine / therapies as a class or category.

Alternative Medicines & Therapies: Miscellaneous

For alternative medicine / therapy items that don't fit into other threads (mainly isolated news items and other posts)

Which would be the appropriate thread to post about TCM?

... Which would be the appropriate thread to post about TCM?

Traditional Chinese Medicine?

This very subject plagued me all day. TCM covers a number of practices / approaches (many of which are reflected in the new threads I set up) without really fusing or integrating them in any coherent way.

Time and again I returned to the issue of whether there should be an independent thread dedicated to TCM. I ended up not doing this, in large part because:

- Most of the substantive material posted in relation to the TCM domain was focused on one or another of the more specialized areas, so a lot of TCM-related material ended up in those dedicated threads;

- The few items that started off citing TCM in general ended up narrowing their foci to one or another of these specialties (hence ending up in the dedicated threads); and

- The even fewer that stayed on topic with TCM overall didn't really say much, and mostly ended up in the 'General / Overall' thread as a big wad of undifferentiated 'alternative' stuff.

A final issue was my desire to avoid establishing a new large ill-defined compendium when the original point of the project was to integrate or eliminate large ill-defined compendia.

Having said that ... I'm fine with establishing a new thread dedicated to TCM overall, provided someone makes the effort to initially populate it with sufficient introductory / overview material to get it off the ground and give it a topical identity. IMHO the extant material I had to work with didn't accomplish that - particularly after peeling off the stuff related to one or another specialty.

Back to your specific query ... If you're wanting to post about TCM overall / as a whole, I'd suggest establishing a new thread. Otherwise, I'd recommend posting in whichever topical thread(s) relate to whatever you're wanting to post.

One angle that occurred to me (but got set aside) was an independent thread dedicated to specifically Chinese herbal remedies. A large proportion of the TCM material related to herbal issues (broadly defined).
