The humble horseshoe is discarded...

It's no secret that people who are sneaker people are very serious about their shoes. Some collectors will pay tens of thousands of dollars for designer footwear only to let it sit in a case on display, never to be worn in real life. What we never realized as a public is that there is apparently a market for the same kind of shoe, but meant to be worn by a literal farm animal, slogging through hay, mud, and who knows what else.

Horse Kicks, the equine shoe startup, is proposing and launching several different styles of horse sneaker that are all modeled off of classic designer styles including Nike, Air Jordans, Supply, and even New Balance.

According to CNN, prices start around $1,200:

Customers hoping to outfit their horse with custom kicks can commission sneakers from Floyd's venture, Horse Kicks. Unlike the name-brand sneakers made for VisitLex, the commissions will be Floyd's own designs. Prices start at around $1,200, depending on the complexity of the design.
Photos of the unique footwear have taken off on social media. "I don't think any one of us realized that it would take off to the magnitude that it did," said Floyd. "As an artist, I feel like a sigh of relief."

New horseshoe design

Former top jockey Robert ‘Choc’ Thornton has pioneered a revolutionary new horseshoe which is producing winners on the track.

The shoe, which has a unique tread pattern to prevent slipping, is made from composite rubber with an aluminium core. It also has better shock absorbing properties than conventional shoes.

“We have had 28 runners, 12 winners and 23 have been in the first four,” said Thornton, 45. “Graeme McPherson and David Kilahena’s stable have been using them and they have had five runners in this shoe and five winners. None of these horses were hand-picked.”

Thornton said: “These shoes are designed to ensure there is a reduction in concussion and vibration when a horse’s foot strikes the ground.

“The concussion can reduce sore shins and jarring, the vibration can reduce the chance of stress fractures and makes a difference if a horse strikes into itself or knocks its joints. It is helping horses with these problems.”
