Human Population Growth & Overpopulation

John Constable's Suffolk village in bid to defect to Essex
Henry Bodkin
26 April 2017 • 5:23pm

Historic Suffolk landmarks made famous by the paintings of John Constable could soon become part of Essex, if furious villagers get their way.
Residents of the, for now, bucolic idyll that is East Bergholt believe changing counties is the only way to protect the local landscape from the threat of developers.

It means settings made famous around the world by the romantic artist, such as Willy Lott’s Cottage and Flatford Mill, could be lost to Suffolk forever.
But villagers feel so betrayed by their local council that “that’s their problem” best sums up the current mood.

Sitting in the picturesque Stour Valley and accommodating fewer than 3,000 souls, East Bergholt is in the throes of a bitter struggle to fight off the development of a further 144 homes.
So determined is the Parish Council to prevent the expansion, that it is threatening to break free from Babergh District council and defect to the Essex borough of Colchester.
“Colchester seems to place more value on protecting heritage assets,” said Parish Council chairman Paul Ireland.

Not only do increasing numbers of people need more places to live, but when they choose to fly they're cluttering up the sky too!
UK air traffic controllers warn of over-crowded skies

Air traffic controllers are warning that UK skies are running out of room amid a record number of flights.
Friday is likely to be the busiest day of the year, with air traffic controllers expecting to handle more than 8,800 flights - a record number.

They have called for a drastic modernisation in the way aircraft are guided across UK airspace.
It comes as the government launches a discussion to shape the UK's aviation industry for the next 30 years.
Air traffic controllers expect to manage a record 770,000 flights in UK airspace over the summer - 40,000 more than last year.

But the ability of the the UK's National Air Traffic Control Service (Nats) to deal with this surge is being stretched to the limit, it is claimed.

Population Growth is an Illuminati farce designed to eliminate 90% of the world population for no other reason than they can not control us. Having traveled the world and seeing all of the vast vast regions where no one lives and just doing a few mathematical calculations comparing some total of the land mass occupied by the 200 largest metropolitan areas on earth, one could easily conclude that we are being misled. Now when you consider that many countries pay their farmers to under produce so market prices can maintain certain levels, and that our government uses food as a political weapon against poorer nations, we see that a game is being played. The fact that first world nations have destroyed and polluted the environment is as obvious as their desire to shift the blame to the the so-called useless eaters of the Third World. I can't believe how everyone is buying this overpopulation bullshit. Oh, that's right I forgot that they control the media

Population growth cannot keep going indefinitely.
When I was born, world population was at 3 billion. Now it's at 7.5 billion. That happened in my lifetime.
Extrapolate to the future. It's a scary future ahead.
No conspiracy required.

G'day Big El. I reckon you can have all the land you want, but without decent soil and a reliable source of water you're fucked (pardon the Australian).

The Elsupremo ( a take from Steely Dan ?) is disregarding the fact that the land is only a small part of the equation.

Food, water, sewage disposal, electricity, work, space to grow etc are all part of the package.

No point in bringing more people into a world that is already tearing itself apart with war and strife, pollution, famine and all the other problems that we don't seem to be able to get a grip of.

And what is the use of people who have nothing to occupy them ? Boredom is the biggest enemy in any civilized western country; and it is going to increase as automation increases.

Very sobering article in today's Guardian warning of the dangers of gross overpopulation.

https://www.theguardian.com/cities/...-certain-decades-population-bomb-paul-ehrlich

I often disagree with Guardian articles, but reckon this one is pretty accurate.
But what can be done?
What can be done, indeed.
We could bring back disease. Not fight it so hard.
We could establish birth control methods that many would find unpalatable (see China as the failed experiment).
We could allow people to commit suicide if they so wish.
War is actually not an effective means of cutting population, so should be avoided.
All women in 3rd world countries to receive education (including education about birth control). Educated women don't have as many babies.
Encourage the use of porn and sex robots among the chavs to keep them occupied.
MGTOW and man-hating feminism (already happening).
Stop governments from financially supporting (a) people who have more than 2 kids, or (b) people who deliberately get pregnant so they don't have to work.

Just as each country has to sign up to commit to control pollution levels, perhaps each country should sign up to control population levels?
The UK (particularly England) currently has an utterly unsustainable population level and should seek to reduce it.
A gradual reduction in population through financial incentives for couples to have no more than two children and far stricter immigration control could set a great example for other countries to follow.

Hear ,hear,

I like integers. Non of that 2.4 children stuff for us, we're British.

A person's accomplishments accumulate over years and decades. Something else accumulates, too — their poop. Poop habits may vary, but the volume each of us generates in years and decades is considerable.

The quantities of poop that people leave behind during an individual bathroom break can vary widely, depending on age, body weight, diet, exercise and other factors.

Moving one's bowels is part of the normal digestive process for most animals; after nutrients are extracted from food and liquid, waste is eliminated as urine and feces. Human stool, when healthy, is usually made up of about 70-percent solids and 30-percent fluids, Kim Barrett, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego, told Live Science. Personal bowel habits notwithstanding, on average, both men and women move their bowels about once per day and produce a daily average of 14 to 17 ounces (400 to 500 grams) of feces, Barrett said.

Researchers have even identified the speed at which humans generally produce their poo: about 0.8 inches (2 centimeters) per second, Live Science previously reported. Constipation — being unable to move one's bowels — can lead to longer, or more uncomfortable bathroom sessions. However, the amount of time a person typically dedicates to unobstructed defecation is about 12 seconds per stool, and is uniform across many animal species regardless of their size, according to David Hu, an associate professor of mechanical engineering and biology at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Patricia Yang, a Georgia Tech doctoral candidate in mechanical engineering.

The amount of poo produced by a single person starts to add up when you calculate poop production over years and decades.

Starting with an average daily amount of about 14 ounces (400 grams), the total poop production in a week's time would be about 6 lbs. (2.8 kilograms). In a year, a single person would yield about 320 lbs. (145 kg) of poop — just a little more than an adult panda weighs.

In the U.S., the average life expectancy for men is about 76 years old, and for women, it is around 81 years old. Therefore, a man living to age 76 would produce about 24,320 lbs. (11,030 kg) of poop over his lifetime, and a woman living to age 81 would produce about 25,920 lbs. (11,757 kg) — so a lifetime of a woman's poop weighs about as much as three adult male hippos.

Recently, the stark reality of how much poop humans can produce prompted action from officials at Denali National Park and Reserve in Alaska. Years of unregulated pooping by visitors to Denali, North America's tallest mountain, left an estimated 152,000 to 215,000 lbs. (69,000 to 98,000 kg) of feces deposited on the mountain between 1951 and 2012.

Another unpleasant reality is that 4.5 billion people around the world do not have access to household toilets that safely dispose of their waste, according to the United Nations. And each year, over 200 million tons (181 million metric tons) of human waste goes untreated, with more than 90 percent of sewage in the developing world released directly into oceans, lakes and rivers.

At least 1.8 billion people worldwide depend on a drinking water source that is contaminated by fecal residue; poor sanitation leads to disease outbreaks and public health crises that affect millions of people each year — many of them children. However, improving access to clean water and implementing better sanitation practices, such as feces containment and treatment that enables its safe disposal, could prevent approximately 842,000 deaths each year, according to reports from the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund.

And to all who 'that's a load of shit'..

It is Sir, a very big load and it all has to be processed.

Next time you have had a extra large vindaloo followed up by four pints of Guinness, think on where it will end up.

Mythopoeika,

..All women in 3rd world countries to receive education (including education about birth control). Educated women don't have as many babies...

There could be some push back from religion.

And there are some 'civilised western countries' that are a bit laggardly in this respect.

You know the mantra 'Get out there and breed'.

If only we could send it all to Mars, we could grow a shit-load of potatoes!

you can't go to Mars to grow potatoes, because there's an absurd local presence of xenon-129. I am of strong suspicion somebody did some serious thermonuclear hydrogen-bomb testing out there

In fact the most successful way of stopping runaway population growth is statistically known to be educating females and diseases.

Educating women:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...girls-to-stop-population-soaring-1050580.html

It may already bee too late however:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...on-science-growth-study-wars-disaster-disease

The most likely scenario:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=soylent+green+full+movie

As I'm sure I've said before (Don't encourage him. He does go on sometimes.), it's a self-correcting problem. See Ramonmercado's post #1085 in the "Horror Films" thread about "Mom and Dad". Such a scenario may not be as far-fetched as it seems. When the pressures of over-population become too great, nature can be very resourceful and creative. Not much joy, but there it is.

Is it the education in itself or simply the ensuing lack of time and money keeping women from having as many children.

I assume now antibiotics have been overused and are losing their effect that the death rates will go up because of that too.

I assume now antibiotics have been overused and are losing their effect that the death rates will go up because of that too.

Probably not. There are a fresh schedule of new forms of antibiotics around the corner, and genetically targeted medicine to follow.
