Sadly this isn't over yet. Unless Ms Bibi is gotten out of the country she will likely be lynched.

The lawyer representing a Christian woman acquitted of blasphemy after eight years on death row has fled Pakistan in fear for his life.

Saif Mulook told news agency AFP he had to leave so he could continue to represent Asia Bibi, whose conviction was overturned by judges on Wednesday.

Officials have since agreed to bar Ms Bibi from leaving Pakistan in order to end violent protests over the ruling.

Campaigners blasted the deal as akin to signing her "death warrant".

Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 of insulting the Prophet Muhammad during a row with neighbours, and many are calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty following her acquittal.

Mr Mulook told the BBC earlier this week she would need to move to a Western country for her own safety. A number of attempts have previously been made on her life.

Several countries have offered her asylum.

Alcopwn: She wasn't, she just managed to avoid jail. It was her lawyer who fled Pakistan, she is still stuck there. Which might actually mean she will die sooner.

It seems that anybody can accuse another person of 'insulting the Prophet/Koran/Islam/whatever' completely without substantive evidence. Don't they see the flaw in their legal system?
That legal system was derived from the word of the Holy Prophet! How dare you criticize the work of the Holy Prophet blasphemer!

Especially as the government has done a deal with the rioters which means she is prevented from leaving the country.

Utterly shameful. The civilised world should halt all foreign aid to Pakistan until Bibi and her family are granted safe passage to a country where she will be protected.

Asylum has got a bad name in recent years due to widespread abuse of the system but this is a classic case of where it is necessary.

The British Pakistani Christian Association campaigns on these issues.

The British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA) was born from a single event – in the ashes of churches and homes razed to the ground by a horde of Islamist thugs who persecuted Pakistani followers of Jesus Christ. It happened in the city of Gojra on August 1st 2009 when a married Christian couple were wrongly accused of using torn shreds of the Koran as confetti at their wedding. This false rumour grew in popularity following a hate message preached by a local mosque. Mob violence then led to the deaths of nine innocent people, 100 destroyed homes and two churches set on fire. ...

And I gather the BBC, in the guise of Doctor Who, is going to make some sort of political statement on Pakistan's history next weekend.
This could be cringeworthy.
Has any incarnation of DW ever been so politicised?

Don't watch DW and I normally don't have much time for religion but the BPCA seem to be OK. As well as Christians there is terrible repression of Shia Muslims in Pakistan. You get regular bombings of Shia Mosques, new only filters through to Western media if there's a big body count.
