Let There Be More Light: The Pink Floyd Thread

I believe the Floyd named the band only version The Amazing Pudding. Back in the early 90s there used to be a mimeographed little Pink Floyd fanzine called just that.

Yes, I have a few issues (let me rephrase that: I have a few editions of The Amazing Pudding). Haven't dug them out for a while, but I'm pretty sure the cover was frequently on pink paper (nice touch).

I think it was Andy Mabbett who I wrote off to in Leeds or somewhere. Whatever the details I think I must have sent a postal order and almost immediately received a bunch of back issues. You can always trust an Andrew to get the job done :)

I seem to remember there was a half-hearted compliment from Gilmour regarding the 'zine along the lines of, "well, hmmm...it's all jolly good fun..."

Yeah, unfortunately part of the reason they folded the zine was they later got caught up in the Waters VS Gilmour war, and lost a bit of respect for their heroes... :(

That's a shame. It seemed to be a product of genuine, almost innocent, enthusiasm. Thats showbiz I suppose :-(

Syd Barrett piece I've never heard of before. I'm a bit skeptical that it is even his work, but it has some Floydian fingerprints on it.

Canadian composer turns Pink Floyd's The Wall into an opera

26 March 2017 Last updated at 00:19 GMT

The Opera de Montreal is taking the rock out of “rock opera” with its ambitious interpretation of Pink Floyd’s classic double album, The Wall.

Another Brick in the Wall: L’Opera tells the story of Pink, a rock star who retreats into his mind to cope with the alienation of fame.

Is this really necessary, I wonder?

New shrimp species named after Pink Floyd

A new species of shrimp has been named after Pink Floyd thanks to a pact between prog rock-loving scientists.

The synalpheus pinkfloydi uses its large pink claw to create a noise so loud it can kill small fish.

ROGER WATERS BRINGS POWERFUL ANTI-TRUMP MESSAGE ON NEW TOUR, OFFENDING SOME FANS
Roger Waters kicked off his “Us and Them” tour last night in Kansas City, Missouri, and at least a few fans were not happy with the legendary Pink Floyd artist for including anti-Trump messages in the show. According to the Kansas City Star, some fans walked out while Roger Waters and his band played the Pink Floyd song “Money,” while images of Trump’s failed casinos, Russian buildings, and photos of Kremlin officials flashed on the large screens surrounding the stage. One fan raised his middle finger toward the stage as he left the Sprint Center arena, apparently upset that a notoriously politically-conscious artist was including political themes in his show.

If people are surprised that Roger Waters has suddenly gone political, they must not have been paying attention to his career for the past half century.
Roger Waters thanked Kansas City on his Facebook page, and while the majority of responses were positive, a handful of angry concertgoers complained about the political nature of the show. One commenter even described the show as “Satanic” while voicing her displeasure with Waters. Most were just generally upset that Waters criticized Trump or even had a political message at all.

“You are a piece of poo,” one commenter told Waters. “You are a fake. And I never thought I would turn my back on Pink Floyd. You are a disappointment to those of us who truly hate the NWO.”

Ha ha, how extraordinary: devoted Floyd fans gobsmacked by unexpected Waters leftism!

"Trump is a pig" seems pretty childish, but surely it's partly a sort of meta-joke about porcine dirigibles etc...

Presumably the 'commenter' (ie. qualified Citizen Journalist these days) who composed the “You are a piece of poo” witticism was a four year old girl?? If so, it's good to know the young folks are at least interested in rediscovering the classics!

On Big DG, I had an extended dream sequence this morning involving he and his family. I got to jam along with him on a weird plastic 'digital' bass guitar, which impressed him, or perhaps he was just being polite, but I was living that dream for all it was worth. We played some kind of waltz in a round, with a blonde, overweight (!) Polly S on Mandolin. He was quite a bit younger, slim with dark grey hair and daughters instead of sons. I was again semi-lucidly making decisions on whether I should or shouldn't do things, some of which were naughty. I had a great time. It was in a building - not on board Astoria. It was warehouse-like with studio equipment installed and guitars hanging off the walls. Cool eh.

Had this on my mind all morning as a result.

I bought the new Waters album this morning. Despite the rather Floydian production I find it quite boring. He's still banging on about politics over the same old trite chord sequences with a few sound effects thrown in. Utter waste of a tenner IMO.

Not a fan? I've run it through about a dozen plays and it has become a favourite. I had a similar response on first listening - angry old duffer banging on the same old drum, but I came to the conclusion What Do You Expect? This is Rog, He's always been crabby.

I like the dearth of electric guitar licks in favour of acoustic. Reminds me that he's an old folky at heart, and that works on this album. He's gone a bit Pete Seeger, musically (no bad thing) but I'm glad he still rails at the madness in his own distinct way.

We cannot go back in time
But we can say Fuck you!
I will not listen to

Your bullshit and lies

Couldn't disagree more. But then I still like Floydian chording and I still celebrate their spirit. There are still a few of us hanging in there. Anybody else had a ganders at Is This The Life We Really Want?

Taste Broken Bones
well that wouldnt play for me but i got as far as the fourth line of deja vu before i exed him, all his solo work is the same, hes just a vacant mooch ... but floyd, what a great band, including waters when he was containable

2 out of 3 against. I'm surprised at the vitriol, but oh well. Each to their own. Glad to be in the minority, as always.

Rock on Rog, you vacant uncontainable mooch.

Apologies if this has been posted before. Zero PF content tbh, more an 'istorical curiosity.
