'Low Strangeness' Disappearances (Missing Persons; Runaways; Crime-Related)

Ultimately, the only (publically) known facts are that he wandered behind a shop while inebriated, and that his phone ended up in a bin.
was it determined what happened to the phone, i thought it was never found

Bits of the phone turned up in a bin lorry, didn't they?

*edit* - the back cover of a phone of the right type turned up close to where the last signal from his phone was detected but there was no conclusive forensic evidence as to whether or not it was actually his: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-38568194

That's the problem though, his mother specifically didn't want certain 'stones' turned over at all, even ones which might well have helped the investigation.

Was it dogging or swinging or somesuch?

The family admitted he and his partner were actively into swinging, but denied he was gay or bisexual after the police revealed they had evidence that he was looking for men to have sex with on Grindr and other similar apps....

doesnt mention where found ie landfill/elsewhere ... i wouldve thought the phone back panel would be prime for fingerprinting ... although it does mention a protective case ... lumia 435s are not a popular phone

omfg, as they say. That puts a whole new spin on it.

It does, yes.
He may have been lured down that back alley by gay-bashers. Or by a solitary psycho.
I now firmly believe he was abducted.

By abducted do you mean something like: he was lured away, harmed and then taken off and dumped because a beating went too far and he was dead/dying? That seems likely.

I'd originally wondered if he'd tried to do that pissing into open water thing that drunken men often try and fallen in and drowned. That's a cause of death that comes up now and then.

There's a river nearby, but it has been searched and nothing found.

Any scenario like that is possible.

Abduction is a strong possibility, but in that case there was no point in searching the landfill at all. The only way he could have ended up there is by either being opportunistically murdered and dumped in a bin, or by falling/passing out into one.

Personally, I wonder if he just decided to disappear. Coming to terms with his sexuality, having a pregnant (did he know?) fiancee, and a family who would have probably reacted very badly to his 'coming out' may have led him to just ditch his phone and walk away from everything. Only my idle musings, of course, and until proof of his existence or demise comes along, that's as good as anything.

That is another possibility. Happens a lot more than you'd think.

I wondered that myself. I know it is completely wrong to judge by appearances but many of the photos of him that have been released, as well as some statements made by his family, suggest a somewhat er.. flamboyant character and it wouldn't be surprising if his sex life - whatever that may be - did play a big part in the disappearance. I also wondered if he was facing difficulties in the RAF either at the hands of his superiors or his peers. In summary my impeccable gaydar went PING!! the first minute I read about this case.

I have always thought he was in the bin wagon and ended in the landfill, but
could not get my head round the what I assume were load weights for to truck
even with the amended higher weights it would not make sense to make a
trip to the land fill with such a small load, I have driven self weighing wagons
and the ones I have come across just aren't that precise and what was the driver
charged with and why one wonders.

I've just been reading up a bit more on this... the bin located in the courtyard where he was last seen on CCTV was for commerical waste (from a Greggs store) and was emptied by Biffa. The driver who emptied it recorded the weight as 11kg on his paperwork when it was actually just over 100kg and was arrested, presumably because the police thought he had been trying to cover up the fact that there was a body in the bin. He was released without charge after he convinced the police it was an honest mistake. Meanwhile the phone was tracked by triangulation to another bin lorry, and subsequently a back cover from a Nokia was found near the final tracking location, the load of that bin lorry weighed 15kg ruling out the notion that he was with the phone at that time. I can't find out whether that was a Council or commercial bin lorry but both loads were dumped at the same landfill, which is the one that was searched by police. Albeit we don't appear to know if that's where the phone cover was found.

So... did the phone end up in the second bin lorry accidentally or deliberately? Was the sighting at 06:00 at a well known local dogging spot genuine and was it followed up? It's notable that according to witnesses and the CCTV footage Corrie (although he had certainly been drinking) was not completely out of it, was able to stand up and walk straight. At first the narrative of 'serviceman on a jolly night out gets mortal loses his friends and decides to sleep it off in a bin with tragic consequences' is both straightforward and compelling, but there are a number of factors that don't add up. Is the bin theory just a massive red herring?

If the first bin lorry was carrying his body, it could have been a simple case of the driver accidentally running him over or crushing him, then panicking and trying to hide the evidence. However, dropping the body off at the landfill with only a few kilos of accompanying waste would be an incredibly stupid way to try and dispose of it.

The phone casing that was found was a different model to the one that Corrie had, so was not his.

I think I get the weight thing now, the weights quoted are for that particular
bin likely so the bin company can charge by weight, the wagon must weigh the
bin as it loads it, the wagon it's self will have lots of these small loads so
when it goes to tip it will have a full or near full load. Could be the driver
entered the wrong weight so the shop was charged less and he got free
butties, or then again just a error.
It's also possible that the driver was used to collecting say 11kg from that bin
and with Corrie on board it showed say 111kg and his mind just converted
that to what he expected or he just thought the weighing mech had thrown
a wobbler, the load would likely be compacted by the wagon hydraulics game
over but then how did the phone part company with it's owner.

well that makes no sense, if true why was it even reported

For the same reason any theory about Madeleine McCann gets the front page, it is a popular mystery and it sells papers.

This case is bizarre. There is a facebook page with over 100,000 members, the Corrie Army, with merchandising - you can buy wristbands, hoodies, etc. There has even been talk of a concert.

The 'go fund me' appeal raised over £50,000 for a private investigator, instead of which it seems to have been funnelled across to a mysterious data collating company who have been cleaning up Corrie's online presence.

The modsnips* on Websleuths are of epic proportions and the discords on the Reddit threads have to be seen to be believed. Several threads have had to become closed groups due to threats and harassment. Whether this is due to the facebook 'Huns' not understanding that sleuthing sometimes involves suggesting a theory, or some other factor, I'm not sure.

new theories or lines of enquiry are a bit different, cant recall a mccann headline where the news was that unrelated items had been found off piste somewhere

reading around, they havent said whether its the correct type of phone or not, but that its evidentially a dead end

Missing RAF airman Corrie Mckeague's body is "most likely" in a landfill site where a resumed search is under way, an independent inquiry says.

Suffolk Police is searching for his body at the site in Milton, near Cambridge, after examinations were halted there in July.

East Midlands Special Operations Unit's inquiry supports the continued search.

Mr Mckeague disappeared in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, in 2016, after CCTV showed him entering a bin loading bay.

The inquiry by the unit, made up of specialist officers from five police forces, assessed whether there were any other lines of inquiry in the Mckeague case.

Police made the arrests after searching two Swanage addresses on Monday.

Dorset Police said "extensive searches" would continue in the hope she was still alive.

A Ms Dinch and her grandson were arrested on suspicion of murder, then released. Ms Dinch claims to have been the last person to see Gaia before her disappearance and described their meeting in detail.

There were no injuries to suggest "any other person was involved" in the death of missing teenager Gaia Pope, police have said.

The 19-year-old's body was found on Saturday in a field near Swanage, 11 days after she was last seen.

Dorset Police is treating her death as "unexplained" pending toxicology results.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation and released under investigation.

Det Supt Paul Kessell said: "The post-mortem examination has not identified any injuries to suggest any other person was involved in her death.
