Can anyone remember the name of the spirit entity that was fabricated as an experiment in either seances or ouija board sessions? I think this made-up entity started to appear regularly without the attendees realising it was invented. I've heard it (him) mentioned a couple of times on podcasts, but just can't track down the story now and would like to re-familiarise myself with the background.

It's interesting. Almost as if the constructive interference pattern created by the group consciousness creates the effects. It's strength seems to build when people sing or chant together; it gives coherence to the pattern. Folks who practice ritual magic in groups or covens or work to create thoughtforms or raise cones of power or conjure stuff up, or use a second innocent person as a seer, would tell you that's why they do what they do.
 
David Ambrose wrote a novel based on this. Superstition. Was really good.
