A load of old bollocks

Link is dead. The MIA webpage contained this news item:
Testicles in Tupperware man says he's done 50 castrations

Michigan police investigating a suspect who allegedly cut off a man's testicles say he's performed 50 castrations.

They were alerted to the 29-year-old from Oak Park when his latest kitchen table operation went wrong.

Police found the man's 48-year-old 'patient' sitting on a kerb in blood-stained jeans.

He told police he'd been voluntarily castrated in a nearby house where police found two testicles in a Tupperware container in the fridge.

According to the Detroit Free Press, police say the suspect told them he's done castrations in the US and in his previous home in Australia.

Investigators aren't releasing either man's name until they decide whether a crime was committed.

Lieutenant Bruce Smith said: "I can't even imagine this. It's bewildering to me."

The pair met on the internet.

The 'patient' is out of hospital and recovering after several hours of surgery. Police have released the 'surgeon'.

Jim Halushka of the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office says you can't commit a criminal assault on a consenting person. He added: "This makes no sense. This is just too weird."

{in a high pitched, bewildered manner}

wow, what a weirdo......

Can't see the point in it myself, on either behalf.

As to prosecution, could they get the guy on practicing medicine without a licence? (i'm assuming he's not a doctor.)

It seems ever since the John Bobbit case of penis dis"member"ment, that at least once a week somebody in the world is cutting off somebody else's penis, although sometimes it's the individual themselves. So does this seem a tad out of the ordinary to anybody else? Has this phenomenon always been with us, or is there a rash of manic penis-cutting going on?

Here is the latest report from Yahoo:

German wife gives husband's penis the chop

BERLIN - A German woman has partially severed her husband's penis during a quarrel after sex, police in the southern town of Konstanz say.

In an incident recalling the maiming of former U.S. marine John Wayne Bobbitt, who temporarily lost his penis in a similar attack, the woman, 43, sliced her 34-year-old husband's member with a carpet knife, police said.

"They'd just had their bit of hanky-panky and she went for him with the knife," a police spokesman said.

The bleeding man drove himself to hospital for emergency surgery. The outcome was not yet known.

The woman fled to a restaurant where police arrested her. She was later released. Police said the motive for the attack was unclear.

In 1993, surgeons managed to sew Bobbitt's penis back on after his wife cut it off with a carving knife while he slept and threw it out the window. He later turned porn actor.

Well, you might want to look up the genital mutilation practices of certain Australian Aborigines...
IIRC, the penis is split to resemble the bifurcated organof the kangaroo.
Mind you, this might be completely wrong as I am remembering it from something I read decades ago...
but it certainly sticks in the mind.

Doesn't it though :eek!!!!: (crosses and uncrosses legs and whistles to self)

I remember one case in Blackburn some years ago where a devout Jehovah's Witness removed his entire tackle, because it offended his sensibilities, using...oh bloody hell...a hammer and bolster chisel....I need a drink now...

Well, was it St Paul who said, 'If thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out . . .'

I remember years ago reading about a (Spanish, I think) gypsy girl who was raped and her father and brothers caught the bloke and emasculated him . . .

But did he mention taking woodworking tools to your Old Persuader?

I somehow doubt it...

So why does penis cutting/attacking seem to be only covered now after John Bobbit (fate gives him a cruel name choice) got shish-ka-bobed? Or did this even put the idea into the heads of people as a possible thing to do to a cheating/unfaithful/abusive mate?

I knew there was a cult of eunuch fans out there, people who wanted to have there testies removed, but not the whole penis shaft. That is a crazy body modification as far as I'm concerned, but I guess to each their own.

There is a novel by the excellent writer Nicholas Royle called COUNTERPARTS in which the characer, who is a tight rope walker, splits his own penis down the middle. There is a technical term for this (but I can't remember what it is) and some cultures do this to themselves for ritual reasons.
Anyway, the book is an excellent read and I highly recommend it.

I remember seeing a book at RE:Search about modern primitives so I knew of the penis splitting practice, which is weird to say the least but not nearly as drastic as full-on removal.

Now, modern primitivism is getting a big kick nowadays, but it's more the attack/forced removal or crazed "I took a butchers knife to my privy bits" self-removal that seems like a relatively new trend, rather than the "Two Johnsons are better than one" splitting phenome.

BTW, if you seen the afformentioned book, you have to remember the infamous Sailor Sid and his vast array of penile additions, rings, and piercings...

I seem to remember reading an interpretation of the Grail story about the Bleeding Spear (or Lance): according to this version, the 'spear' is actually a severed member.

This is supposed to refer to an alleged Templar(?) practice of amputating the penis so that they could concentrate their minds on higher things. (The urethra was kept open with a hollow straw.)

I couldn't find this on the web (what to Google on?!) but this very long account of the grail legends recounts this tale, which may also be a veiled reference to the practice:
This story is different to the one told in the Post Vulgate Cycle known as the Suite du Merlin (c. 1240) and Sir Thomas Malory, in Le Morte d'Arthur. It was Balin de Savage (Knight of Two Swords), who would use the spear (Bleeding Lance) to wound King Pellam (Parlan or Pellehan), the father of King Pelles. The blow to Pellam was known as the Dolorous Stroke. The spear pierced his thighs, which crippled the king. Thereafter Pellam was known as the Maimed King.
(Sorry for raising the tone! :D )

This page is worth reading. It explicitly discusses the connections with sexuality and fertility of the Bleeding Lance.

The legend:
Parsifal encountered the old, sickly lord of the castle, wrapped in furs despite the heat, and was invited to take place beside him. At that moment, a strange scene unfolded.
"Next, something extraordinary happened. A pageboy leapt in through the door carrying a lance - an act which evoked a scream of agony. Its sheath was dripping blood, which ran down the shaft to the boy’s hand, finally oozing into his sleeve. A great moaning and screaming arose in the broad hall. The population of thirty countries could not have screamed louder than those knights.
"He carried the lance in his hands right round the four walls, back to the door, and then went out again. The howling ended.
"A remarkable procession then entered: young girls, marching in pairs with candles, ivory stools, a platter made of precious stones, and silver knives. And finally came the queen herself:
"A glow came from her countenance, like the break of day. The Lady was clothed in Pfellel of Arabia. On a green Achmardi she bore the fruits of paradise, roots too, and rice. It was the thing that was called the Grail, overflowing with all that man could desire. She who was worthy to carry the Grail was called Repanse de Schoye [spreading of joy]. The Grail could only be entrusted to pure hands; they who would have care of the Grail, they must be without guile."
- Wolfram von Eschenbach, Parzival
One comment:
"...The symbols of the Bleeding Lance borne by a squire and the Grail carried by a maiden must have been originally sexual emblems in some classical mystery rite." A Greek vase painting of a Dionysian scene from the mid-5th century B.C. "attests to the antiquity of such symbols in the context of initiation rites. The flaming staff and empty pitcher in the hands of the young girl are matched by the sprouting thyrus, running with living sap, and the proffered wine cup of the god."
"The Castle of the Grail, like the bowl of a baptismal font for the sanctuary of the winged serpent, is the place - the vas the temenos - of regeneration..."
- Joseph Campbell, Creative Mythology

Spirituality aside, is the Grail worth losing the use of your bait & tackle?

In a higher tone :D , I always thought the Fisher King's unhealing wound was sexual in nature, similar to the chap in the Illiad who recieved a genital wound.

Never heard that about Templars & their twig-born urethras before. Could somebody survive like that medicaly for long without a major infection? And I guess it aso means that the Templar Orgies were less likely?

The search for the lost holy nob is an old archetype - witness Horus's search for Osiris's penis post dismemberment. Seems to crop up a lot, that one.

I vaguely remember several churches claiming to have Jesus' foreskin... in theory the only part of him that is still left after the ascension.

Another ancient occurence of penis-cutting is Cronus's severing of his father Uranus' genitalia with a sickle in Greek myth...

When men split their penis, is one side wider than the other so that they can still use it to pee? Or do they have to do a similar thing to the straw as well?

Ouch, this reminds me of female circumcision. I saw a book on it once. A chicken is sacrificed, and the 'external genitalia' is cut off with a razor blade. Agony, and completely unhygienic as well (the cutting done by whoever slits the chicken's neck without washing their hands afterwards). Where does is say in the Bible or whatever that women should be circumcised?

I wrote a story about the male phenomena. Well, not wholly about but it does have a scene of penile mutilation.
You can read it on my website if you're curious.

There are some Male to Female transexuals who cut of their own penises. I've only heard about it mind so I don't know if it's actualy true.

A amn who lived three doors down from a friend of mine desided to slit open his erm...what's the corect term...scrotal bags (i'm trying to be nice here) and insert his penis into the hole to 'keep it warm.' He dosn't live ther anymore, he's in a psychiatric ward.

If I recall, the split in two penis has skin grafted onto the cut sides of the new duo (where this skin comes from, I don't know), and the urethra is split as well, so that you urinate out of both holes.

And to quote from the song:

Doing it doing it doing it
Doing the Banana Split ya'll

A colleague who's a doctor told us about a person who'd been brought into A&E while she was on who'd become impatient waiting for the operation and cut off one testicle, slowly, stopping when the pain got too much....

Suspicion that this may be a FOAF story, just to watch all the blokes wincing and going pale.

I know I've read somewhere about the guy who got autoerotic stimulation from a conveyer belt used at his place of work and how when other people left the plant for lunch, he'd be indulging himself in a little fun. That is, until the day that his scrotum got ripped open somehow on the belt, and he procedded to use a staple gun to close the wound and tried to pretend nothing happened.

When he went to the doctor (and we can all say having heard the story thus far he was going to the doctor), the doctor noticed he was missing a testicle among all the trauma. Fortunately, the guy recovered pretty well from the ordeal.

Anybody else remember hearing aout this one? If not, I'll try to look it up.

I've heard of it as well, but don't have any references. Probably time to do a bit of research on the matter.

On the other hand, there has to be something less...unpleasant to research about.

The bit about Horus and Osiris, though, might provide some context to the theft of Tutenkhamun's penis after the Carnarvon expedition dug him up. (Then again, it may just have been someone after a keepsake, so to speak.)
