I have had a look at some of the RAW data at the http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 2004-02-06 site and there seems to be tampering on this data too.

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 76L7M1.JPG seems to have a monilith from Arthur C Clarkes "2001" Infact these "monoliths seem to be in half the photos. I wonder what is behind them?

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 76R7M1.jpg seems to have had some sort of tool applied to a patch just above the bottom right corner.

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 76L7M1.jpg They look like the prop guy left a quarter in view, left top quarter . And some bones too (skull and vertabrae) :D
http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 76R1M1.jpg Another Monolith and is that some "airbrushing" around the large rocks just below? Certainly the focus seems different.
http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 76R2M1.jpg Looks like an area of old eroded footprints or at least something has been moving around in the not too distant past?

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport ... 004-02-06/
Another that seemed photoshopped but can't find it now!!!

When I asked a friend with top security clearance--whose name and position with the government I won't mention for obvious reasons--what he thought about all of this, here is what he gave me:

Tom, two landers touched down on the planet Mars in what was to become an international search for life. The British Beagle 2 reached the red planet on the day the Savior’s birth was celebrated, December 25th, 2003 and immediately disappeared. European scientists examining images of the lander’s separation from the mothership were startled to find an unidentified object nearby. Shortly after, NASA’s Spirit Rover rolled onto the Gusev Crater, a lake-like depression south of the Martian equator, and began transmitting unexpected images and data from that anomalous terrain. Within days and without explanation, it abruptly stopped. Engineers from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory worked on the problem, and the rover was rebooted. But--and here is what you don't know yet--it then photographed something that defied explanation… something that wasn’t supposed to be seen... something you'll know about soon enough.

Oh good - someone else with access to a talking head with 'top security clearance', none of which can be verified. He might as well say, 'some bloke on the street told me that,...etc....' ;)

Hmmm. Let me guess. It wasn't saucer shaped, or possibly triangular?
Please!

Does anyone remember a film called Red Planet Mars http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045073/ where the Martians turn out to be utopian fundamentalist christians?
I,m a bit young to remember that Heckler ;)

Was it any good ?

:D
Oi cheeky!

Amusing in a cold war fundamentalist christian sort of a way, the evil atheist Russians versus the God fearing fundie americans who discover that Martians are God Fearing fundie martians who tell them that the Earth can only be saved if everyone belives in God. So the Russkies overthrow their evil masters and return to being a Christian country.

It would help if you stopped chatting and wrote something relating to the thread!

I first thought the original post was an advert to make us click the link. Well I don't believe soemone in high ranks spoke to a person like a victorian story writer but it is true that the two probes went missing. Also other stuff went missing or closed down for a while just to come back on at a later date etc.
I think there is more to Mars than meets the eye, we haven't really had a good old look yet, I mean properly!

I'm not sure why some people assume something is untoward if something goes wrong on these types of missions. After all, they're unmanned, and so the feedback loop for any problems that arise gets a little stretched. There are also technical and technological reasons why problems could arise. After all, this is cutting edge exploration into pretty much uncharted waters - and it's all taking place a very very long way away!

Very sorry Dingo and your quite right I shouldnt be using this thread as a moan about mine being locked still !!

The fact that both landers had issues very early on is a little weird, But I have to admit Jerry has a point ! Its an awful long way away and they had not done anything quite like that before.

I think your first guess is right and its a advert for the book !

clever of em too

;)

I think just around the dark side of Mars is a giant space poodle who likes chomping on probes was they pass by.

LOS ALAMOS— Physicist Michael Martin Nieto has a problem that won't go away.
For the better part of a decade, Nieto and a loose-knit group of colleagues have been poring over data from NASA's old Pioneer interplanetary spacecraft, trying to answer a nagging question.
What's holding the spacecraft back?
I f you read this article at the bottom of the page it starts on about the book again !!!
More advertizing ???

and this piece found in Noah ,Enoch wife after the flood

When Batenosh my wife noticed that my face had changed (its) _expression [ … … ] then she gained control of her emotion(s) and spoke with me. She said to me, "O my master and [brother, recall for yourself] my pregnancy. I swear to you by the Great Holy One, by the Ruler of Hea[ven] that this seed is yours, that this pregnancy is from you, that from you is the planting of [this] fruit [and that it is] not from any alien, or from any of the Watchers, or from any heavenly being.
Why has the appearance] of your face changed like this upon you? And (why) is it disfigured, and your spirit dejected like this? [ … for I] tell you (this) truthfully. vacat

The watchers and aliens - why do you think she speaks so?

government agent..

wow, i can tell you that my father works at the cia and my xhusband is in the USAF, and both being government type employees, the most they could tell you about anything is that they don't know anything that goes on, and if they did they wouldnt tell you. and according to them it doesnt seem like anything truly exciting is going on, in any aspect of the world(except of course more people being killed in iraq than in 9/11 anyway...glad we're making progress with that one, btw)

oh, and im a journalist/writer and i still wouldnt believe 70% of what i read in the paper.

yep, lindseyinstereo. My pop worked with the Joint cheifs in D.C.-I always bugged him to tell me all he knows ( alot of stuff came across his desk, all aspects of unknown things talked about here on the board) he tells me a bit about this and that ( he did tell me that as early as 1969 lots of stuff would come in about amelia earhart , fast walkers, UFO's) but he would never get specific..I remember asking about, years ago, a certain level of top secret , and he sort of jumped!, shocked look on his face briefly he blurted out something ..can't quite remember..but anyway he would say most of the time , that certain things will come out soon..I'm sure he knows, has known, what alot of ufo type objects were, are (at least up until (he got out of the Marine corps in 1971-and then went to work with a very secret government defense company) I haven't talked to him in years about this stuff..I think I'll give it a go again, maybe he'll spill more beans now! :D

rumour...inuendo and speculation, which is all well and good...lets face it,that and a token will get you a ride on the subway...not one piece of hands on evidence....its like a re-cycling of every thing that was written in the 60's and 70's......nothing changes...just re-arranges.

The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one, they say.

We do seem to be getting a gradual trickle (pun intended) of information about the extent of water on Mars. The dark streaks appearing on some crater walls do seem indicative of small amounts of liquid water still flowing on or close to the surface. Furthermore some photographs do appear to show modest pools of water (or ice) present. (And OK, I know it's The Express which is not known for sober reporting, but those photos sure are fascinating!).

I've seen lots of weird stuff in Mars photos that never gets mentioned or investigated by NASA.
I don't think they're giving us the whole truth about what's over there.

A lot of claims about artefacts on Mars are utterly ludicrous, but I really do wish the next time they send a Martian rover, it would explore a more interesting area, rather than the Martian equivalent of the Gobi desert. Would love to see Spirit or Opportunity drive up to the "shoreline" of one of those "lakes".
The bottom of Valles Marineris would be another great place to explore, with its higher atmospheric pressure being borderline for liquid water to exist.
