Mass / Group Abductions

The thing about 'abductions from the future' is that they are a reasonable consequence of General Relativity and faster-than-light travel. Any method of travelling faster-than-light implies that travel to the absolute past is a reasonable consequence.

The abductors need not be humans from our future- they could be aliens from the future (with knowledge of our history), and who choose to abduct people from missing planes, ships and other forms of transport that go missing. The Tay Bridge train disaster springs to mind.

By abducting people from missing passenger transports (as per the OP), the abductors would ensure minimum disruption to the time-stream. This seems jolly decent of them, and maybe they aren't so bad after all.
