One co-author credits his close friend and fellow mathematician after he appeared in his dream from the grave to explain a key concept of the theory:

A lovely story! It's really his own subconscious coming up with the answer.

As when William Watts of Bristol had a drunken dream in 1782 about his wife pouring molten lead on him from the church tower, possibly expressing his fear of matrimonial unrest after his misbehaviour.

The lead in his dream formed into tiny round balls. He and his forgiving wife tried tipping molten lead from a height and together invented lead shot.

Or when I woke up last year with a clear image in my mind of my kitchen cupboard door handle over the sink, with various gaskets looped over it. One was from my leaky blender. I'd removed it for cleaning and forgotten replace it. My subconscious was fed up of my ineptitude!

Perhaps the next performance trend will be holograms of famous mathematicians and scientist delivering lectures. We'll see 3-D projected Euclid, Newton, Einstein, Feynman.
