Miraculous Apparitions

My neighbours across the road didn't seem to need to pilgramage to such sites. I remember distinctly my walks to school with their daughter of my age, she would describe in enthusiastic detail the spiritual experiences of herself and her sisters, for example having Gabriel or Mary coming to them in the night as they slept.
I had the pleasure of her company and seeming genuine belief of this until they all left for America.

Jesus Appears in Dental X-Ray

By First Coast News Staff

PHOENIX, AZ -- Apparition's of Jesus have appeared on walls and in chapels. Now, in Arizona, a patient at a dentist's office says he sees one on an x-ray.

The dentist, and staff at a Phoenix dentist's office agree that the x-ray contains an image resembling Jesus.

The patient came in for a routine exam on Tuesday and when the x-ray was developed, he saw the image of Jesus.

The patient describes himself as a devout Christian, but says he's never before seen Jesus in an x-ray.

By the way, the patient's exam was perfect.

Angels photographed over nation's capital?

Hanukkah mystery: Eerie blue images caught on camera at menorah lighting

Posted: December 8, 2004 1:00 a.m. Eastern

© 2004 WorldNetDaily.com

WASHINGTON – Was it a bird? Was it a plane? Was it a sign from heaven?

That's what Carrie Devorah wants to know after she inadvertently photographed some mysterious blue light images hovering heavenward while taking pictures of the lighting of the Chabad menorah on the first night of Hanukkah last night on the Ellipse in the nation's capital.

"I took this shot as I was walking to get into place," she said. "For those of you who know D.C., you will recognize the two red lights to the left as being from the Washington Monument. And you will know there is no building that tall to the right of the menorah where the two blue images are."

Are they lens refractions? Are they planes from National Airport? Devorah isn't sure.

"I was fascinated by the stage light silhouetting the menorah," the photographer explained. "So I walked as close as I could – shot with my wide angle lens. ... I noticed the blue images when I returned home."

Devorah says she took three photographs in sequence and the blue images – the mystery lights – are ascending in the sequence.

Devorah was in the news last spring when her brother Chezi was killed in a terrorist bus bombing in Israel.

She wrote about her experience and her loss in a WorldNetDaily commentary.

Still feeling the loss, Devorah takes comfort from the mysterious lights.

"Messiah? A sign? Blue angels?" she asks rhetorically. "All I know is it was fortuitous on a day I was needing to see ... one set of footsteps in the sand, a sign I am being carried."

Waterbury woman sees image of Jesus on her door- by Michael Herzenberg

(Waterbury-WTNH, Dec. 14, 2004 10:45 PM) _ Whether you're a believer or not, the spirit of the season is drawing crowds in the city of Waterbury tonight.

Dozens of people have been flocking to one woman's home to see what some say is an image of Christ.

"I see right here, those of the eyes of Jesus. So I saw the holy spirit from head to toe. I have chills all over my body."

Matilda Munoz feels blessed. She came home from church Monday and found markings on a door she says were never here before.

"I could see the Sacred Heart of Jesus too. Right here, see? Right here. It looks just like this one. When i walked in something went into my body. I got chills. I wanted to pass out."

Hundreds of Waterbury residents are visiting this Wall Street home. Many say it's spiritual.

"I'm impressed. Very impressed. Can't find no words. Very touched by it," says one visitor.

"It's incredible. Never seen nothing like it," says another.

"It's incredible. It's a miracle. That's all I can say," says one woman.

But the Catholic Church is not saying one way or another.

"When I visited Matilda this morning I told her that, you know, the church requires a long process of determining whether something is a true apparition such as that," says Pastor Kevin Gray, Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon.

An apparition or an aptly marked piece of wood. There's no question in this house.

"If it helps her as a person, an individual, to grow in her faith."

And there's no question of that.

"It's like a blessing peace in my house."

Holy toast! Second Coming witnessed ... on a crumpet

WITH only faint shades of religious significance, the image of Christ has revealed itself on the toasted crumpet of a Leicestershire carpenter. But Shaun Garrod, who witnessed the Second Coming on his snack, is an atheist who initially believed his early Christmas present was more a gift from the rock gods - thinking the apparition was the Bee Gees frontman Barry Gibb. Mr Garrod, 31, from Ashby de la Zouch, said: 'I was just toasting some crumpets and when I pulled them out to check they were okay, my brother Elliott said: 'That looks like Jesus'. 'I thought he was messing me about but I had a glance and thought it looked like one of the Bee Gees, the one with the hair. Later in the day I had another look and I thought it did look like Jesus.' The timber recycling specialist was eating breakfast at the weekend when he made the discovery. He said: 'I took it to the pub and my mates thought it was great - one is a regular churchgoer and he thought it was divine. I have had people asking me to bless them. 'My dad asked me if it was a Sunblest product and said he had had the Pope on the phone about it.' Mr Garrod says he has no plans to cash in on Christ by following the example of an American woman who made 14,500 from selling a cheese sandwich carrying an image of the Virgin Mary. Diana Duyser, from Hollywood, Florida, sold the ten-year-old grilled cheese sandwich on eBay last week. Mr Garrod added of his crumpet: 'It has shrunk a bit now and it's as hard as a rock.'

I wanted to post some scans of the "Son of Cod" (Jesus' face which allegedly appeared on a fishstick cooked by a local man); can we post images again? (and if so, should it appear in the Simulacra thread?)

Either here or in the Bizarre Auctions thread (where I first posted the story) - this is really for religious simulacra (and related things).

Jesus in a halfshell:

'Christ-like' shell to go on sale

A bar manager in Switzerland has announced plans to sell an oyster shell resembling the face of Jesus Christ, according to local media.

Matteo Brandi, 38, may hope to repeat the success of a Florida woman who sold a piece of toast said to bear an image of the Virgin Mary for $28,000.

The Italian said he had found the shell, whose contents have since been eaten, in a batch two years ago.

The oyster stuck to his hand as if God was calling him, he said.

Mr Brandi, who describes himself as a devout Catholic, told Switzerland's Le Matin newspaper he had kept the shell on top of the bar's stereo after he found it.

This piece is unique - it is the work of nature, it is neither grilled nor cooked.
Matteo Brandi, owner of oyster shell

He has now given it to a bank for safe keeping.

He became aware of its potential value only after hearing of the Florida sale.

"This piece is unique," he told the newspaper. "It is the work of nature. It is neither grilled nor cooked. I shall try my luck over the internet."

Diane Duyser caused a stir last November when she put her unusual piece of cheese-on-toast on the eBay auction website.

The toast, which Ms Duyser said had brought her great luck over 10 years, was sold to an internet casino within days.

The item received more than 1.7 million hits.

Man Sees Image Of Jesus In Frying Pan

POSTED: 10:25 am EST February 1, 2005
UPDATED: 12:51 pm EST February 1, 2005

Some people will tell you that the Good Lord can show up just about anywhere, and lately there seems to be no shortage of religious images seen on commonplace items.

Remember the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich? Well, now it's the Jesus frying pan.

Juan Pastrano, of Prairie Lea, Texas, said he was cooking his mother breakfast on Sunday when he looked close and saw what looks like the face of Jesus etched in his frying pan.

There's no word yet on if the family plans to sell the pan. But if they do, it could really bring in the bacon. A 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich with the image of the Virgin Mary recently sold on eBay for $28,000.

Satan's Shell

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/03/21/evil.turtle.ap/index.html
Pet store owner: Satan's image on turtle's shell

MICHIGANTOWN, Indiana (AP) -- An Indiana pet store owner says he sees the image of Satan on the shell of a turtle that was the only survivor of a store fire in October.

The palm-sized red-eared slider turtle, named Lucky, was the only animal to survive the fire at Dora's A-Dora-ble Pet Shop in nearby Frankfort, about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

Owner Bryan Dora now says he sees Satan's face on the critter's shell. He can spot lips, eyes, a goatee, shoulders and a pair of pointy horns on Lucky's back.

"The marking on the shell was like the devil wanted us to know he was down there," Bryan Dora said. "To me, it's too coincidental that the only thing to come out unscathed would have this image on it."

The image was not visible before the fire and Dora speculates the intense heat might have caused the shell's color to change. The turtle is healthy and there was no change in its behavior, he said.

The cause of fire that destroyed nine businesses or offices in the 1912 building in downtown Frankfort has not been determined.

"Turtles can hold their breath quite awhile," Dora said. "He may have taken one breath just before and held it through the fire. Except that the fire went on and on for hours."

'Miracles happen on this site'

Throngs of faithful flock to Thermal to bear witness to apparition that appeared 3 years ago

Darrell Smith
The Desert Sun
March 26, 2005

Three years ago, just after midnight on Ash Wednesday, a light shone in the back window of a home at the end of a dirt road among the date groves.

The light shone in the sign of the cross, a call to the faithful.

So they came in droves sometimes 20 deep, the faithful, the skeptical and the curious, too, lining the dirt road to Jesus and Concepcion Aceves' Thermal home, to pray, to wonder, to question, to believe.

Three years later, on Good Friday, the day Christians believe Jesus Christ was crucified, the cross still shines in the window, and the faithful gathered again at the end of the road to bear witness to the miracle before them.

Only now, the back door is surrounded by flowers and crucifixes, portraits of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

What once was a home has become a church and a refuge for the devout.

What once was a back yard is now an outdoor sanctuary under a canopy of date palms, its seats filled with 50, then 100, then 200 people, coming by car and by the busload to this spot from Los Angeles, Bakersfield, San Francisco to witness the luminous cross.

"The mystery of the cross is still there, and it's touched the people who are still there," the Rev. John Connor, pastor of Our Lady of Soledad Church in Coachella, said Thursday. "It seems it's more realistic now than when it was a curiosity," Connor continued. "People benefit more now than in the beginning."

The simplest explanation for the cross of light may be refraction - the way light beams bend and change.

But for the devout, explanations don't matter. Their faith does. In the past year, the faithful have come for weekly services here and for a glimpse of the phenomenon.

And, just as in those first nights three years ago, these pilgrims say they are witness to something special here in the date groves, something beyond their grasp.

The mystery is still there, and it has found a welcoming host in the Aceveses, a family seemingly duty-bound to share their gift with the throngs of the devoted who have found their way to the home off Avenue 57.

"This family has passed a lot of tests," said Maria Consuelo Hernandez of La Quinta, who has come to this site ever since the apparition first appeared. "Jesus said, 'I'm here. I'm testing you.'"

Coral Aceves, Jesus and Concepcion's granddaughter, who said her faith has grown in the years since the apparition first appeared, adding that the novelty of the cross of light has long since faded for the curious.

"Most people who come here have faith. We're way past (the curiosity) stage now. They come here by word of mouth. They need something. They want to heal in some way," she said, then added, "Miracles happen on this site."

On Good Friday afternoon, they arrived, some old, some young, some with the aid of a cane, some in wheelchairs, all clutching rosaries, to hear testimony and recite the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy over the occasional crowing of roosters.

At the pulpit, the woman behind the microphone spoke of this home as if it were hallowed ground, the cross as if it were a sacred space.

"This place is a special place because one day we will be asking for His forgiveness before this cross," the woman said. "This is the place where the Lord will hide you from your enemies, because the light from this cross will shine so brightly that it will hide you."

Under a peach tree, a priest offered confession. And at the rear of this backyard sanctuary, Herminia Otseott told why she traveled from San Francisco to be here. The reason shone in front of her.

"You see that luminous cross? It's because of the luminous cross. God can do anything he wants to," Otseott said.

That's why the cross shines here, she said, why it emanates from behind this door.

"God is light. It's a sign. God is the light, no one else. It's why He uses the door," she said. "You don't walk in a house through a window. You use the door. He's the way. He's the door. That's it."

Otseott turned to the date grove behind her. She believes there's a plan for this plot of land higher than herself.

"People are going to come from all over. That's why God picked this place."

Jesus image 'likely to be a trick of light'

March 29 2005 at 01:58PM

By Dianne Hawker

They came as if on an Easter pilgrimage - from Mitchells Plain, Retreat, Bonteheuwel and Manenberg - to see the image of a crucified Christ on a frosted bathroom window in Lavender Hill.

But a glass expert has cast doubt on the phenomenon, saying the type of glass involved produces images which explain the "vision".

Since it was first seen just more than a week ago, the "vision" has attracted crowds of people who residents say have pushed and shoved their way into the bathroom of the Petersen family's ground-floor flat in Parkin Court.

Remona Petersen, 18, who first saw the image when she looked through her bathroom window on March 20, told the Cape Argus last week that she had been moved to tears when it happened.

But on Monday, with people still flocking to her home, Remona declined to comment, insisting that she first be paid for the interview.

She did say, however, that the image of Christ flanked by six angels, was visible after dark.

Another Parkin Court resident, 17-year-old Dionna Esau, said that while the curious were still coming, their numbers had dropped.

"People really believe that it's an angel," she said.

"They say that when you go into the bathroom, you get such a good feeling."

However, unlike her neighbours, she doesn't believe that the image is a religious sign.

"It did look like an angel, but it's not," she said. "I think it's a reflection of the moon or a light."

Nazli Petersen, 29, a neighbour who has lived in the same block of flats for nearly 12 years, said she had first seen the vision last Monday, when an "image of Jesus" had been "quite clear".

When she visited the flat again on Wednesday, the image appeared to be fading.

"Maybe it's a sign for all of us in Lavender Hill to make peace with the Lord," she said.

But Paul Prins from Glasscraft stained glass and sand-blasters in Lakeside said the effect in Remona Petersen's glazed bathroom window was more than likely "a play of light" on the glass in a specific area that was covered by a residue that collected inside the sand-blasted glass.

This could have caused a distorted distinction between the fatty residue and the cleaner area when a light source was projected on the glass, he said.

Family invites people to see Virgin Mary, Jesus on rock (photos)

POSTED: Sunday, May 01, 2005 4:11:41 PM
UPDATED: Sunday, May 01, 2005 5:25:43 PM

# JACKSON TOWNSHIP -- A Stark County man thinks he may have a miracle sitting in his garden.Photos: Jesus, Virgin Mary on garden rocks

He says images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary mysteriously appeared on two of his garden rocks this week.

It’s hard to miss the Hartman’s house in Jackson Township. It’s surrounded by a white picket fence. And it has a beautiful garden complete with a miniature train track.

It was in the garden that Robert Hartman said he made a miraculous discovery.

Hartman says he was “tinkering around” when he saw the image of Virgin Mary on a rock. Then another stone caught Hartman’s eye. He says it bears an image of Jesus. He says it’s a sign from god.

The other thing that’s so interesting about these rocks is that one of them has a dark patch. It’s actually a film or oil-like substance. And it has a very distinctive smell. In fact, it smells like flowers.

Hartman’s mother, Ethel, told Channel 3 News the night before the images appeared, a mysterious flash of light awakened her.

“It woke me up because the lights came on up in back,” said Ethel. “And it shined right on my bed.”

The next day when her son showed her the images on the rocks, she was convinced it was a sign from god.

Ethel Hartman is a devout Catholic and prays the rosary up to 15 times a day. She says she doesn’t know why the lord chose to create the images in her yard, but she’s thankful nonetheless.

The Hartman’s welcome anyone who’s interested in seeing the rocks. They live just outside Massillon, in Jackson Township. There house sits at the corner of Amhearst and Traphagen Street.

Jesus Spotted in Ultrasound

(From WTVG-ABC TOLEDO, OHIO), May 3, 2005 — Mother's Day is less than a week away and one Toledo mother has a special and spiritual story to share.

At 5lbs. 1oz., 3-day-old Aaliyah is a big blessing to her mom and dad. The proud parents say they received a sign she is special in an ultrasound photo taken about a month ago. After taking a closer look at the ultrasound they say there's an image of Jesus Christ in it. It's an image mom and dad say they can see in two of the ultrasound images taken that day. It's also a sign that came when they both needed it most.

Pregnancy wasn't easy for Erica Brazier. At seven months, doctors ordered her to bed rest, and high blood pressure brought her to Toledo Hospital. Every four weeks she had an ultrasound to monitor the baby's growth. So, she was a bit nervous until this ultrasound. Little Aaliyah arrived about a month early. She was born Friday after only ten minutes of labor and she is in excellent health.

We checked with Toledo Hospital to make sure the ultrasound photograph was not altered in any way. Administrators tell us the ultrasound photo is exactly the same as what they have on file.

I mean at all. Maybe it's my monitor, but does anyone else see a simulacra of anything?

Some See Image Of Jesus In Fort Worth Window, Claim Miracles

Hundreds Flock To Apartment Window

POSTED: 8:22 am CDT May 27, 2005
UPDATED: 10:56 am CDT May 27, 2005

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A chance to see the face of Jesus is drawing hundreds to a northwest Fort Worth apartment complex.

As word spreads about the image, people are flocking to the window, looking for signs of a miracle, and many claim they are finding it.

"I was just touching around to see if I felt anything and I saw my hand. Then my husband went up there with me and I saw his hand," Mary Castillo said.

Castillo has been blind for years. She said after touching the window, her vision started to be restored, and then she was given Communion and it continued to clear.

She said she saw her 9-year-old granddaughter clearly for the first time.

She's not the only one claiming a healing experience, and that's part of the excitement for hundreds drawn to the location.

A priest performed a Mass Thursday night before a large crowd.

New crowds of faith seekers and believers were expected Friday.

That's what always gets me about this Mary/Jesus simulacra - no one knows what they actually looked like! Anything that looks vaguely female or bearded male gets quickly labeled as one or the other.

For all we know, maybe it's Che Guevero or Veronica Lake trying to appear.

Mystery rainbow appears in church

By Byron Crawford
The Courier-Journal

"It wasn't man-manipulated. It was the spirit of the Lord."

That's how Pam Buis, a member of Rich Hill Christian Church in Casey County, described a mysterious circular rainbow that appeared on the ceiling of the small country church during a Sunday morning service just over a week ago.

Buis, who took several photographs of the image with a camera that she had in her car, contacted some of the region's news media after she and 60 other members of the congregation witnessed the occurrence.

Church pastor Rick Hogue said the rainbow colors first appeared as a band of light a few inches wide and several feet long on the ceiling while he was teaching a Sunday school class in the sanctuary shortly after 10 a.m. on May 22.

The light, which lasted for most of the 45-minute Sunday school period, appeared to change slightly in length, width and coloration before it vanished by the time Sunday school was over.

"I was teaching from Revelation, Chapter 3," Hogue said. "It was so exciting that morning that I know we didn't finish the teaching. I can't even remember where I had gotten to with it to tell the truth about it, but I believe I was at Sardis (one of seven churches in Asia Minor, named in Revelation)."

Image reappears

The rainbow image - described by Hogue's wife, Debbie, as predominantly purple, red and green with traces of yellow at times - made a second, more dramatic appearance on the sanctuary's low tile ceiling soon after church elders had gathered in a circle around the pastor to be prayed over by the congregation at the start of the morning worship service.

"When I started preaching, it came back ... and made a complete circle right in the same area," Rick Hogue said. "It had three big white bright lights in the center of it. I had plenty of witnesses. When it first came up everybody was in awe - I mean just silence. I was in the pulpit and it just set me in awe. It was unbelievable how bright and radiant it was."

Hogue said that although the sky was mostly cloudy that morning and the side of the church on which the rainbow appeared was heavily shaded, he still paused during the service to adjust the blinds on the windows and that he even moved some bright objects and turned out the lights in the sanctuary to see if the rainbow was being created by some reflection of light that could be easily explained.

But the rainbow, about 7 feet in diameter, remained as radiant as before. It had faded away by the time the service ended about 1:30 p.m. Bobbie Jo McGowan, a church member who handles much of the church's photography, got one of the best pictures of half of the circular rainbow with her 35 mm camera. McGowan said her husband went outside the church during the event and said the sky was hazy. She has returned to the church about that time of morning a few times since then, but has seen nothing.

"I'm still asking the Lord for discernment on what it completely means," Hogue said.

Maxine Roy, 83, the church's oldest member, said she has never witnessed such a phenomenon in all the years she has been attending. But she does recall a somewhat miraculous weather-related event that occurred nearby, at the site of what was Rich Hill Christian Church, when she was a girl and a tornado destroyed the first building that housed the church.

"All that was left of the church," she said, "was the pulpit stand, and the Bible on it - unopened."

Chicago Officials Turn Off 'Jesus' Light

Jul 11, 6:22 PM (ET)

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) - City officials have turned off a streetlight that drew more than 250 people to see a shadow that some say resembles the image of Jesus Christ.

East Chicago Police Chief Angelo Machuca called an emergency meeting Sunday to recommend the light be turned off in the interest of public safety after nearby residents complained about blocked cars and visitors congregating until 5 a.m.

Several arrests were made Friday night after a large fight broke out in the area.

"The city respects everyone's religious beliefs, but it's getting to the point now where it's almost too dangerous" to leave the light on, said Damian Rico, the city's public relations director.

People have flocked to the site since Wednesday, when a woman first claimed to see the image on the side of a tree. The image is only visible at night when the streetlight near the tree is illuminated.

Machuca said his department doesn't have the manpower to maintain regular patrols and control the crowd.

"The light will remain off until we can get some kind of solution," he said.

Valeriu Junie, 66, of Drobeta Turnu Severin, says he first noticed the images about a year ago, just before Christmas.

He said: "It all started one night when I was watching TV and noticed some shadows on our wardrobe.

"I turned on the light and saw the image of Jesus in the middle and those of St Peter and St Paul on the sides.

"I didn't say a word to anyone for a few weeks but then the images started to become clearer everyday. I decided to call the priests and since then lots of people come to my house to see the miracle."

The wardrobe is made from walnut and is nearly 50-years-old. Valeriu's wife, Geta, 72, got it as a dowry on her wedding day from her parents.

Local priest Vasile Nuhaiu said: "I was shocked by what I saw there. There were three shadows on that wardrobe with the face of Jesus Christ in the centre.

"It is a miracle when Saints reveal themselves to us mortals and I crossed myself and started to pray. I told the two old people they should fast and pray to those holy images."

Workers See Jesus Image In Nacho Pan

Pan Used To Heat Nachos

POSTED: 6:16 pm EST December 22, 2005

A Florida restaurant says it has been blessed just before Christmas.

Workers claim a holy image has appeared in one of their cooking pans.

At the Stadium Club in Jacksonville workers have found what they believe is an image of Jesus in a nacho warming tray.

The pan is used to heat water which then heats the food.

The image was created from mineral deposits in the water.

One of the cooks says he went to empty the pan last night and saw Jesus looking back at him.

A spokesman for the Stadium Club says they will not continue to use the pan.

Man Says Jesus Appeared In His Pancake

Man Selling Flapjack On eBay

UPDATED: 3:11 pm EST February 9, 2006

BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- A Beachwood man has found religion in his pancakes, Cleveland television station WEWS reported.

Mike Thompson was making pancakes last weekend for his family when the pattern on one of the flapjacks caught his eye.

Upon closer inspection, he saw what he thought was the face of Jesus. He showed his wife, and she agreed.

That's when the couple decided to do what anyone who discovers such an edible artifact does these days -- they put it up for sale on eBay.

"I think the grilled cheese sandwich sold for $28,000, and the pierogi sold for a couple of thousand, so I figured start it off on eBay for $500. It's a pretty good deal," Thompson said.

He is hoping it sells like hotcakes, but so far there have been no opening bids.
