Monkeypox / Monkey Pox

MPOX it is.

Senior Biden officials who have been pressuring the World Health Organization to rename monkeypox have succeeded in their efforts. Monkeypox has been rebranded MPOX. The White House requested the name change because of its racist connotation.

The name change proposal was met with some opposition. Some health experts argued that the name change could cause confusion and make it more difficult to track the disease. However, the administration argued that the name change was necessary in order to remove the stigma associated with "monkeypox. "

The original name of monkeypox was chosen based on the fact that the disease is commonly found in monkeys. The new name, MPOX, is more representative of the fact that the disease can affect humans as well.

Because no one is going to figure out what word the "M" is replacing? Humans kill me:hahazebs:

Being a Geordie in origin...is the 'M' word supposed to represent a Frenchman?

Sorry I don't understand the reference. Or do you mean short form for monsieur?
If you want to piss off a Geordie, ask if they've hung any monkeys lately...https://hartlepoolmonkey.tumblr.com/post/10139708158/hartlepool-monkey-in-get-fuzzy-2

Geordies are not from Hartlepool so mistaking them for someone from there would indeed piss them off. Hartlepool Scouts used to have a monkey on their badge.

There is a problem in Fairbanks, Alaska as a man dies from an orthopoxvirus related to small, monkey, and cow pox.

Officials now call it “ Alaskapox “.

The guess is that a rodent gave this pox to the man’s cat which in turn gave the Alaskapox to the deceased man.

Right now it is all unclear.

It's fear porn. It's what the MSM does best.

I read the article and my understanding is that it was a stray cat that scratched him.

Here's the article:

There is no "fear" porn. The article is only about a virus which has mild symptoms in most people. There have been only 7 people in nine years who have actually had it.

The person died from because he was elderly and being treated for cancer ie had suppressed immune system.

My mistake. I assumed it was a MSM article. Lesson learnt. Check it out first before commenting.

It's from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. That seems fairly mainstream.
That, for me, deserves a bit more investigation. Having said that, the BBC website today admitted that Ukraine might be losing the war with Russia. Very odd. Maybe something is changing the MSM narrative? What or why though, I don't have a clue.
