Mothman is one of the world's most famous Pop Cryptids. The resurgence was helped by the town festival, which became ridiculously popular, the rise of Tumblr, TikTok and Mothman fandom, #cryptidcore, LGBTQ affiliation, the inclusion of Mothman in Fallout 76, and a general repopularization of John Keel. Mothman is consistently one of the top cryptids for DIY merch sales at outlets like Etsy and Deviant Art. The depictions of Mothman are ENDLESS. It's an amazing cultural phenomenon to the point where, I argue, it's lost its meaning as a cryptid in the original sense. Hence, "pop cryptids".
