National Anthems

er... tune and words at a guess!

Of the british/english big three, Rule Britannia is the only tune I like.

I don't sing any of them mind you so I probably shouldn't have a vote!
Nothing wrong with the tune.
Rule Britannia or Jerusalem...yeah, OK.
Apparently, a 2006 survey conducted by the BBC suggested that 55% of the English public would rather have "Land of Hope and Glory" than "God Save the Queen" as their national anthem.

From L.O.H.A.G.

'Wider still and wider
May your bounds be set'

Horribly imperialist and expansionist in my opinion.

I therefore much prefer 'Jerusalem'

Jerusalem is ok for an English anthem, nice and passive agressive :p

I can’t sing and don’t know all the words to my country’s (US) anthem.

I have no idea what the Canadian anthem is. The lyrics have been changed several times (to reflect PC terms) since I was in school. Quebec sings to the same tune, but the words are different. From what I've heard of the English translation, I like the French version better.

The Wombles had catchier tunes, tbh.

Underground,
Overground,
Lizzie is Queen
The monarch of all us, even if you're not keen.

Ruling the subjects, so fair and so kind
"And also, ones face is on every Pound" <'Pound' pronounced in Received English so it rhymes with 'kind'>

Britain has (arguably) the best flag, but the worst national anthem.
Why isn't it 'Land of Hope and Glory'? I guess because the national anthem is also used in other places abroad, maybe?
