‘Crystal Methodist’: Former Co-op bank boss criticises Church for defrocking him over drugs and rent boys binge
22 JANUARY 2017 • 12:39PM

The disgraced former Co-operative Bank boss Paul Flowers has criticised the church for defrocking him after his drug and rent boy binge, saying they could have acted “with a bit more grace”.

Mr Flowers, 66, who had been a Methodist minister, was last week stripped of the title reverend and the power to lead services for "seriously impairing the mission, witness or integrity of the Church".

While accepting the outcome of disciplinary proceedings, he said its handling the incident was not "helpful", adding that the Church should be "more adventurous”. ...

Pretty much the definition of "chutzpah" right there.

Or brassneck as our Northern friends might say.

Student priests' Polari Prayer Evening! Jessica Christ!

"A leading theological college that trains priests for the Church of England has apologised after it hosted a service to mark LGBT history month that referred to God as “the Duchess”.

"Student priests at Westcott House in Cambridge organised the evensong service on Tuesday in the college chapel. Advertised as a “Polari evening prayer in anticipation of LGBT+ history month”, it was described as a “liturgical experiment”. Polari is slang used by some gay people.

A prayer referred to the “Fantabulosa fairy” and ended: “Praise ye the Duchess. The Duchess’s name be praised.” Psalm 19 was reworded to refer to “O Duchess, my butchness”.

Sex orgies, prostitution, porn: Allegations shake Catholic Church in Italy

ROME (RNS) — Lurid accusations of priests involved in sex orgies, porn videos and prostitution have emerged from several parishes in Italy recently, sending shock waves all the way to the Vatican and challenging the high standards Pope Francis demands of clergy.

In the southern city of Naples, for example, a priest was recently suspended from the parish of Santa Maria degli Angeli over claims he held gay orgies and used Internet sites to recruit potential partners whom he paid for sex.

The allegations concerning the Rev. Mario D’Orlando were brought to the attention of the diocese when an anonymous letter was sent to a Naples bishop. D’Orlando denied the charges when he was summoned by the city’s archbishop, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, but is now facing a formal inquiry conducted by local church officials.

In the northern city of Padua, a 48-year-old priest, the Rev. Andrea Contin, is facing defrocking as well as judicial proceedings amid accusations he had up to 30 lovers, some of whom he took to a swingers’ resort in France.

Contin was removed from his parish of San Lazzaro after three women came forward with complaints against him in December. Bishop Claudio Cipolla of Padua cut short a visit to Latin America to deal with the scandal. ...

A priest behind the wheel of a Corvette was arrested last week after cops say he pointed a gun at a mother and son in a shocking road rage encounter.

Now, Florida authorities have released dashcam footage of the Episcopal clergyman William Rian Adams, 35, of Fletcher, N.C., as he was pulled over in the flashy sports car on July 6.

Florida State Troopers were dispatched when a driver called 911 to report a person driving a red Corvette on I-95 had aimed a gun in their direction and cursed at them while driving, according to cops.

In the dashcam footage, the Corvette driver is seen exiting the vehicle with his hands in the air. His passenger, who was identified in reports as Adams' wife, subsequently exits the car with her hands up. ...

Murderous Monk! Why didn't he just kick the Bishop?

Prosecutors in Egypt have charged a defrocked monk with the murder of a Coptic Christian Bishop at a desert monastery.

Bishop Epiphanius, 64, was found dead in a pool of blood at Saint Macarius Monastery in Wadi Natroun, north-west of Cairo, on 29 July. Wael Saad, who had been a monk at the monastery, reportedly told prosecutors he used an iron pole to bludgeon the bishop to death. The possible motive is not yet clear.

The murder of Bishop Epiphanius shocked the Coptic Church, whose adherents make up about 10% of Egypt's population. Wael Saad, who as a monk was known as Isaiah al-Makari, was stripped of his religious title following the bishop's death. The church initially said it was because he had been investigated over long-standing violations of his duties. ...

Naughty Priest news

I'm sure everyone who gave him confession is relieved none of that counts now.

Seems rather unfair as it was his wife who "sinned".

An Orthodox priest in Russia's Urals region has been posted to a remote village as punishment for his wife's participation in a local beauty pageant during Lent.

Oksana Zotova, who runs a beauty salon in the city of Magnitogorsk, won the Miss Sensuality prize at the contest, and attracted a wave of criticism after an anonymous account on Russian social news aggregator Pikabu revealed that she was the wife of a priest.

Once religious authorities in the diocese got wind of the story, Sergei Zotov was promptly dismissed from his post at Magnitogorsk's Cathedral of the Ascension of Christ.

He must now ply his trade in the village of Fershampenuaz, around 65 kilometres away from Magnitogorsk, and with population of just 4,000.

The village was named in honour of Cossacks who fought against Napoleon in the battle of Fère-Champenoise in 1814.

Update:

Two former Coptic Christian monks have been sentenced to death in Egypt over the murder of a bishop last year, officials have confirmed.

Bishop Epiphanius, 64, was found dead in a pool of blood in July 2018 at a desert monastery north-west of Cairo. Authorities blamed the killing on unspecified "differences" between the monks and the bishop. The punishment was originally handed down in February, before being passed down to Egypt's grand mufti for review. On Wednesday, the Damanhur Criminal Court confirmed the men's death sentences.

One of the monks, Wael Saad, reportedly told Egyptian prosecutors he had used an iron pole to bludgeon the bishop to death. Another, named Remon Rasmi, was accused of helping him.

Catholic priest charged over alleged child sex abuse at NSW school

A Catholic priest has been charged in Sydney for alleged sex abuse against multiple children at a Southern Highlands boarding school during the 1980s.
Police say that Father Anthony Caruana, 77, indecently assaulted five children aged 12 to 15 when he was a dormitory manager, rugby coach and band teacher at Chevalier College.
The abuse allegedly took place between 1982 and 1988.
Detectives launched Strike Force Caber last July to investigate reports of sexual and indecent assaults at the Burradoo boarding school during the 1980s.
Their inquiries led them to arrest Father Caruana at a home in Kensington in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Friday.
Police charged the man with six sexual assaults and acts of indecency on a child younger than 16 and two offences of gross indecency on a boy.
He was granted strict conditional bail and will face Waverley Local Court on May 22.

Making a Modly note that so far it is charged and not convicted.

I take it none of you came to harm?

No we didn't (thank you for asking) and we aren't aware of our schoolmates identities who were involved, however, even back then in the early eighties there were rumours doing the rounds in the schoolyard that something sinister was happening. Sometimes the wheels of justice are slow turning, but at least they are turning.

Re Peter Ball, former Bishop of Gloucester, the recent documentary was very enlightening. Not least in the letters of support from a close friend of his, that included the sentence “I’ll see off this horrid man if he tries anything again.”

I thought it made Prince Charles look worse than Andrew. He even gave that pervert a house and yet there’s nothing in the papers about that.

I think this qualifies as 'naughty'.

Priest arrested for having threesome with corset-wearing dominatrices on church altar
By Ben Feuerherd
October 8, 2020 | 10:11pm

Have mercy on us, oh Lord!

A Louisiana priest was arrested for allegedly filming himself having sex with two dominatrices on the altar at his Catholic church, a report said Thursday.

The priest, identified by Nola.com as the Rev. Travis Clark, was busted after a passerby saw the lights on later than usual on Sept. 30 and peeked inside Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Pearl River.

The unidentified witness saw the half-naked priest having sex with the two women, who were dressed in corsets and high-heeled boots. The altar was also adorned with stage lighting, several sex toys, and a cellphone mounted on a tripod that was recording the act.

The witness took video footage of the unholy trinity, then called police.

Not an Islamist attack after all but the priest was a bit of a shi'ite.

A suspect has admitted to the shooting of a Greek Orthodox priest in the French city of Lyon last week over a personal dispute, prosecutors have said.

The 40-year-old suspect told prosecutors the priest was having an affair with his wife. The priest, Nikolaos Kakavelakis, 52, was shot twice with a sawn-off shotgun outside his church on 31 October. He spoke to police after coming out of a coma on Wednesday.

The shooting came days after three people were killed in a knife attack at a church in the southern French city of Nice. It was initially feared to be a copycat of what French President Emmanuel Macron called an "Islamist terrorist attack" in Nice. ...

Child sexual abuse in Catholic church ‘swept under the carpet’, inquiry finds

Pope Francis asked Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the leader of the Catholic church in England and Wales, to stay in his post, despite a damning report that criticised his leadership and concluded that the church repeatedly prioritised its reputation over the welfare of child sex abuse victims.

In its final review of the church, the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse (IICSA) said the Vatican’s failure to cooperate with the investigation “passes understanding”.

Absolutely disgraceful.
