Created by the prolific, Stan Lee, and drawn by Steve Ditcko in 1963. The Marvel comic brought to a children and young audience the ideas of occultism and oriental misticism that came with the hippy era.
Operationally based on the 177A Bleecker street Greenwich Village, New York. (Seems that defence of the world against Mistical treats proof to be a good source of incomes), but with a range of action that extends to all the universe, other universes, other dimensions, and so on.
Strange was initiated into magic by the "ancient one" a master he meet travelling to far orient.
Armed with the grimorie of the book of Vashanty, the Agamotto orb that allow clairvoyance, and the invocation of entities as: Cittorak, Raggadorr, Oshtur. (Ask here to some Chaos magician to try to invoque any of this entities and tell us what happens).
The character, quite forgotten till nineties was brought to life again, now into the universe of Marvel Films for the cinema.
A surprisingly convincing Kumberbach, excellent 3d visual representations of the barroque, and very abstract representations of the comic, led to a entertainment movie that, for my surprise, admit it, do what it was thinkt to, to entertain.
This days Strange returns to remember us that " we are not aware of the dangers that the multiverse implies..." Well the Forteana Forum user are well warned from time ago. :)
Coming: Dr Strange and the multiverse of madness.
