Oh, The Irony

Why would anyone train a kid to use an uzi?

I can understand a rifle if she was going hunting but an uzi?

But any American will tell you that it's their constitutional right to bear arms (of any sort) even if it only applied to Malitia men who opposed us evil, empire building, overtaxing Brits. Nowhere does it say that they have the right to bear any brains or commonsense whatsoever. Maybe the Parents wanted their kid prepared just in case DC decided to send in the British troops again!

An old one, but a goody. Wouldn't it be me sporting if they changed it to "the right to arm Bears"? It would make the testosterone laden hunting season a more level playing field

Related imho to the uzi girl piece.

Close to 200 state and local police departments in the United States have been suspended for losing military-level equipment transferred to them by the Pentagon, a new investigation found.

According to the media outlet Fusion, its independent investigation into the Pentagon’s “1033 program,” which equips state and local police departments across the US with excess military equipment, turned up an alarming trend: Not only did many law enforcement agencies fail to comply with the program’s guidelines, they routinely lost dangerous weaponry.

Already, the investigation has found that police departments in Arizona, California, Mississippi, Missouri, Georgia, and others have lost or cannot account for various types of weapons. This list includes M14 and M16 assault rifles, .45-caliber pistols, shotguns, and even vehicles.

So far, 184 state and local departments have reportedly been suspended in a program that involves the participation of more than 8,000 agencies. Since 1990, the 1033 program has administered more than $4.3 billion worth of equipment and weapons. ...

Oh I see that you still are trying to tell us what to do and how to live. The answer is still the same. Fuck off!

Gold 'posy' ring found in County Antrim field

A gold ring engraved with a romantic message has been unearthed more than 300 years after it was lost.
Treasure hunter Tom Ross found the rare 'posy' ring in a ploughed field near Newtownabbey, County Antrim.
The delicate ring, which has been dated to the late 1600s and is 85% gold, bears the Old English inscription "I noght on gift bot gifer".
That translates as: "Look not on the gift, but the giver".

Also known as a betrothal ring, it pre-dates the custom of proposing with an engagement ring, but essentially served the same purpose - men and women exchanged them from the 1500s onwards to symbolise their future commitment to each other.

Mr Ross, 69, told a treasure trove inquest in Belfast Coroners' Court that he initially thought his find in September last year was a worthless trinket.
"I thought it was a bit of rubbish," the retired oil distributor told coroner Suzanne Anderson.

He later added: "In the last 60 years there have been funfairs on that field, motorbike racing, point to point racing. There has been a lot of activity there so I thought that's where it came from."

It was only after Mr Ross, who took up metal detecting four years ago as a hobby, showed the ring to a fellow treasure hunter in England that he realised it could be valuable.
He passed the item to museum experts in Northern Ireland who were able to establish its true significance.

Elise Taylor, curator of applied art at National Museums Northern Ireland, told the court that it was tradition to have an inscription on the rings.
She said that the name posy related to the French word for poem - poesy.
The jewellery expert outlined to Ms Anderson one theory as to how the ring ended up in the field in County Antrim.
"There was evidence of a church and graveyard in the adjoining field which could have been there at that period of time so many people would have traversed over this field," she said.

Explaining that the ring was very light, Ms Taylor speculated that the owner may not even have realised it had dropped from her finger.
"In the cold weather fingers shrink and rings can be lost," she said.
"Quite possibly she would not have noticed the ring was lost until she got home."

Ms Anderson declared the ring to be officially treasure - a ruling that means it will now be handed over to the British Museum for valuation.
"Very many congratulations and well done for making such a lovely find Mr Ross," she said.

But the pensioner will not be hanging up the metal detector just yet.
After the inquest Mr Ross revealed that when Ms Taylor accompanied him back to the field earlier this year to examine the site she lost her own earring.
"I am going to have to go back and have a look for it now," he said

Halfords 'We Fit' lorry gets stuck under bridge

A Halfords lorry bearing the "We Fit" logo has got stuck under a railway bridge in Beckenham.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the scene at about 13:15 BST after the lorry trapped several parked cars on South Eden Park Road.

The LFB tweeted: "Going the 'extra mile' might have been the better option rather than trying to squeeze under a bridge in Beckenham."

A grim irony here:

Tragic Penzance man Jonno Miller died in A30 crash on the day he was handed all clear from cancer battle
By cmjohnw | Posted: October 30, 2014

A PENZANCE man was killed in a crash on the A30 – on the same day he received the all-clear after a four year battle with cancer.
Jonno Miller, 68, was branded a "miracle" by his doctor after cheating death from a cancer he thought would claim his life.

But on Friday night, he was travelling back to Penzance with his wife, Angie Miller, when their green Ford Galaxy was in collision with an HGV lorry.
Mrs Miller, who was driving, escaped with minor injuries from the crash, which happened at around 5.50pm at Tolvaddon.
She was treated in hospital, and it was when she returned home, having lost her husband, that she opened a letter to say he had been given the all-clear.

The Millers moved from Northampton to Penzance three years ago when Mr Miller was battling liver cancer and said he did not want his children to see him die.
His wife paid a moving tribute to both him and the medical team who looked after him.

Is that story from January?

The cannibal reveals himself:
"I am the naughty one," he said in broken French. ... The pictures show a charred and dismembered body being dragged through the street by a screaming mob. A man held a severed leg and bit down into it.

The same, slightly built figure was standing in front of me. He was even wearing the same yellow T-shirt as in the video. ...

Inmates returning to Limerick prison from court dates were locked outside the front gate on Tuesday night. The usual prisoner behind bars scenario took a bizarre twist when 25 inmates were locked out and could not get past the closed front gates.

Five prison vans returning from court sittings found the main gate locked. Among the locked-out inmates was a pregnant woman. As the prison vans arrived, they had to line up outside the main gate due to a work-to-rule inside the walls.

It is believed prison officers are angry over demands by management that they work an extra 20 minutes at the end of their shift. Officers in 13 prisons and detention centres are involved in an ongoing dispute over extended rosters. ...

Not so funny-I spent 30 years in Law Enforcement and I can tell you that police bosses love to work officers for free.

It took a ruling by the US Supreme Court to get sworn officers paid for overtime!

There were times when I worked a half day for free every day for months. Then our lunch break shrank to fifteen minutes. One judge wanted to work Saturdays-all for free.

You cannot allow a single inch to these people, they'll cheerfully destroy your life.

A sad case.

It is one of the ironies of American political life that the senator most hostile to the proposal to legitimize millions of undocumented Americans is himself an immigrant and Hispanic and Irish. Senator Rafael (Ted) Cruz of Texas is a Canadian native who moved to America with his father, a Cuban immigrant, and his Irish American mother when he was four years old, in 1974. Over the weekend he forced the senate to stay in session because of the Obama executive order, incensing his own colleagues in the GOP who wanted to get out of town. Lame duck Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid used the opportunity and extra time to pass through 24 nominees to the Obama administration that the GOP opposed.

As Politico noted:

“The fiasco has turned many of Cruz’s colleagues openly against him, a dynamic that might bolster his cred with the tea party wing of the party if he makes a run for the GOP’s presidential nomination in 2016, but could also leave him vulnerable to attacks that he’s more troublemaker than leader — able to shut down the government or stall votes but unable to advance a proactive agenda.”

The irony of a Hispanic immigrant forcing a split and deep divisions in his own party on the issue of immigration is certainly worth noting. ...

You have to feel sorry for modern Germans, not only are they nearly all not old enough these days to have even been involved during the second WW, now they're stuck with having to apologise persistently for some of there ancestor's behaviour ... a bit like me apparently having to apologise for the black slave trade even though I wasn't born until 1973 ..

I used to visit an elderly Austrian woman through my line of work who was ex-hitler youth ... when she was about 7 years old at the time so let's not hold her personally accountable ... after her family were turned out of Austria, she was brought to England and eventually became a house maid for a Jewish family. She told me they were lovely to her and it was a very happy time in her life. Oh the irony!.

Anti-gay pastor Gaylard Williams 'squeezed man's genitals and requested oral sex'

The preacher, 59, who is part of a church that opposes gay marriage, allegedly made advances on a 27-year-old man near a lake

A pastor who preaches at an anti-gay marriage church has been accused of making aggressive sexual advances to a younger man.

Gaylard Williams, 59, is the pastor at the Praise Cathedral Church in Seymour, Indiana.

Earlier this week, he appeared at the Jackson County Superior Court, reports WLKY.com.

According to court documents, the victim told officers that Williams approached his vehicle, parked close to Cypress Lake.

He claimed that when he rolled down his window, Williams grabbed and squeezed his genitals before asking him perform oral sex.

The victim noted down the car number plate of his alleged attacker and reported the incident to police.

When officers eventually caught up with Williams, they reportedly found gay pornography in his car.

He was later charged with battery and appeared in court.

A church that opposes gay marriage... well, there's really no need when you can just go round grabbing each other's genitalia... :p
