Oh, The Irony

Crocodile egg collector mauled by crocodile

The 29-year-old man was attacked by a giant crocodile while collecting eggs along the Daly River, south of Darwin, Australia, suffering serious leg injuries and is now in critical condition

Originally, Northern Territory Police said the man's injuries were not considered life-threatening and he was undergoing emergency surgery.

However, a spokesperson for Northern Territory Heath said the man's condition had worsened and he was described as "critical”.

It's believed the man was employed as an egg harvesting operator

The collection of eggs was made legal in 2018 under a commercial wildlife harvesting licence subject to strict requirements.

Collectors can earn $30 AUD an egg, earning $1,800 from a single nest of up to 60 eggs.

The eggs are transported to crocodile farms where they are raised and then killed to make luxury crocodile leather products.

NT WorkSafe is investigating the incident.

So Twitter have locked the account of the British Trust for Ornithology after a series of tweets regarding the Big Garden Birdwatch which mentioned Woodcocks.
(No complaint about their many references to Great Tits though)

One of the redtops today has a story about Katie Price.

Some police officers are facing charges about whats app posts about her disabled son. OK, which isn't nice and shouldn't happen and if true they should face the consequences. But she is quoted as saying that "It isn't enough for them to lose their jobs they should be punished or what's to stop it happening again?"

H'mm with her record of staying out of jail after multiple re offences? Perhaps the officers concerned should all jet off on holiday during the hearing? She's probably not even aware of the irony.

She uses her son as a prop to gain publicity. What the cops did was wrong but she exploits him on a daily basis/

Master Fisher was indeed put on trial in the middle of June, accused of high treason for having said that ‘the king our sovereign lord is not supreme head in earth of the Church of England’. His fate was not averted by the decision of the pope to grant him the red hat of a cardinal. To Henry this seemed to be mere meddling in the affairs of England, and he promised that his head would be off before the hat was on. The hat got as far as Calais.

Also:

The king’s attentions were already wandering once more. Thomas Cromwell had told the imperial ambassador that ‘in future he was to lead a more moral life than hitherto – a chaste and marital one with his present queen’. Yet the minister had put a hand to his mouth in order to hide his smile, so the ambassador concluded that he was not necessarily telling the truth.

The man was collecting eggs to sell to crocodile farms, which aim to raise the animals for their skins and meat.
I say 'aim to' raise them because crocodiles are hard to farm. The Australian RSPCA explains that it does not support crocodile farming because crocodiles (like other undomesticated animals) do not thrive in crowded farm conditions.

Every aspect of crocodile farming is miserable and dangerous, except perhaps for whoever rakes in the profits.

Dumbest.
Thing.
Ever.
(Yes, that's an EV charger powered by a diesel generator)

Yes and no. It's a privately funded charging point meant as a stopgap solution for people driving electric cars in an area where there will be virtually nowhere to charge as it will be mostly off-grid. I'm sure Nullarbor will ring a bell with many members of this forum. It's not exactly an urban area.

Since the photo was taken the generator has been upgraded and now runs on biodiesel.

Would have just been more sensible to not get EVs in the first place but instead buy a car that runs on bio-diesel, surely?
Perhaps, but what about people travelling through the area in EVs?

“I think l’ll buy a car with limited range, then drive it to 100 miles behind God’s back in the hope that somebody will have pandered to my stupidity by installing a charger.”

Not fond of EVs then Max?

During the week I witnessed a bloke with full motorcycle gear on flying along an A road on an electric cycle ( not a motorcycle). Must have been doing well over the speed limit of 50mph. Scary.
I occasionally see a guy here doing that, but just wearing 'normal' clothes.

E-bikes can be hacked to bypass their speed limiter. It's not hard to do, and bound to happen. Splatterings will occur.
