Snake rescued before it could be it be cooked Hawaiian style.

A snake has been rescued after being found on a pineapple in a man's shopping in Edinburgh.

The cat-eyed snake, also known as a frog spawn snake, from Costa Rica, was found by the man once he got home to his house in Tryst Park.

He had bought the pineapple from an Aldi store on Tuesday.

The snake, which has been named Ricky by the Scottish SPCA, is now being cared for by experts at Butterfly World in Edinburgh.

Catherine Atterton, of the Scottish SPCA, said, "It's not every day that we get called out to attend to snakes found in peculiar places.

Maybe I should put tis in Weird Weather but the Rhino is out of place. Anyway she's going home.

An endangered one-horned rhino which was swept across the Nepalese border into India by flooding has been rescued and brought home.

The young female rhino was found 42km (26 miles) from the Chitwan National Park in the Indian village of Bagah.

Four more rhinos from the park need to be rescued and one was found dead after devastating flooding in the area.

Monsoon rains have caused widespread damage in Nepal, Bangladesh and parts of India in recent weeks.

Nepal's Chitwan Valley - home to the park which houses more than 600 rhinos - has been badly affected. Last week dozens of elephants and rafts were deployed to rescue nearly 500 people trapped in the area. ...

5' Monitor Lizard On The Loose In Halifax

An "aggressive" lizard with a 'poisonous' bite has been reported on the loose in a park in West Yorkshire.

The monitor lizard, which is known to give a nasty bite capable of crushing human bones, is believed to be roaming a small park off Kings Cross Road in Halifax.

The lizard was first spotted over the weekend when it tried to attack a dog walking with its owner.

Police confirmed they'd had reports of a lizard being seen and said they found bones belonging to a canine in the park.

Ashley Skeldon and Emma Bussey are heading the search and capture mission as they warn others to be vigilant in the area.

The dog walker told Ashley about what had happened and when she went down to see for herself, she was met with a “massive lizard. The lizard looked about five foot and was hissing at me."

RSPCA warning over keeping raccoon dogs as pets

The RSPCA has issued a warning against what it says is a growing trend for keeping raccoon dogs as pets.

It comes after one was found hiding under a water tank in a garden at Kirton Holme, near Boston, Lincolnshire, over the Easter weekend.

Inspector Becky Harper said: "While he is very cute, we'd like to stress that raccoon dogs don't make good pets."

"They are wild animals and we would strongly discourage people from buying or keeping one," she said.

"They need a great deal of space, and their needs cannot be met in a typical domestic environment."

I've read that these animals are difficult to domesticate and are naturally vicious. In Scandinavian countries they are being dumped and causing harm to wildlife.

WLWT-TV reports residents in Lebanon, a city about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Cincinnati, have used their phones to capture photos of the monkeys hanging out in trees.

Lebanon police say they’re aware of the reported monkey sightings and are investigating. Residents suspect the monkeys were pets at some point.

Residents say the monkeys haven’t been spotted since being photographed several weeks ago but can still be heard.

The big cat was first spotted early on Thursday morning on CCTV, and made several other appearances after that.

Nightshift workers evacuated the building and part of the sprawling factory complex was closed.

A constrictor snake found in Avignon :

A wandering 2.5 m long boa found in the streets.
Tuesday 13/08/2017 12h08 pm.

Last night around 3.20 am, while he was opening his gate, a man found a huge 2.5 m long reptile. The firefighters trained to take care of new kind of pets, such as reptiles, came to retrieve the snake, who seems to be in good health. It could be a boa constrictor or a python who had not reached its adult size, but who could nonetheless pose a danger to people. If not venomous, a bite can indeed cause serious bacterial infections an this animal can, in some cases, roll unto itself to attempt to attack by constriction.
Services from the Vaucluse prefecture were alerted and are now trying to find out its owner. Waiting to learn of its fate, the boa/python is waiting patiently inside a cool box at the Avignon rescue center.

Nice coincidence that a post about a spectacled caiman was followed by a picture of a spectacled gay man...

maybe its just the prankster (d**khead) in me,but, i've always wanted to build a model croc' with a nice quiet electric motor inside and "sail" it on some of the waters that i ocassionally fish... you know up to other anglers to gauge their reactions...all in the name of research obviously. lol

A crocodile was reported by several motorists crossing the M55 nr Blackpool a few years back
a search revealed nothing but the police were convinced something strange had happened.

Not the UK but today I went to the Tin Shui Wai wetlands park in Hong Kong, where they house Hong Kong's famous crocodile, Pui Pui, who was found in a river in Yuen Long and captured. Crocodiles are not native to Hong Kong and so it's speculated it was an illegal pet who was released.

A fabulous walrus has been spotted off the Sutherland coast. It had previously been spotted in Orkney.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-43509060

A walrus dubbed Wally and seen in Orkney a few weeks ago has been spotted in north Sutherland.

The animal was filmed swimming in the sea off Armadale on Thursday morning.

Previously, there was a reported sighting earlier this week at Dunnet Head, Caithness.

It is understood to be the first time since 1954 a walrus has been seen in the Scottish mainland. The film shows the walrus gliding gracefully through the water.

A crocodile calls.

Strangers on the doorstep rarely bring good news.

But a Darwin woman received a visitor like no other on Monday night when a juvenile saltwater crocodile paid her a surprise visit in the city's rural area.

Jessica Burton was letting her dog out when she spotted the 60-centimetre reptile at her door and was so shocked that she thought it was a practical joke.

"I kind of had a look and thought, 'No way, you've got to be kidding'," she told ABC Radio Darwin's Conor Byrne.

"We got the fishing net and it took a few tries to actually grab him because he was very vicious.

"He was hissing and carrying on. It was quite crazy."

Stranger still was the location of the crocodile.

Although Ms Burton lives in the rural suburb of Noonamah, she said there was no major body of water nearby.

Tarantula found clinging to a Nottinghamshire park bin
  • 1 May 2018
_101118049_spider.jpg

A dog walker was "shocked" to find a tarantula dumped in a bin in a Nottinghamshire park.
The white knee tarantula, which is roughly the size of a hand, was rescued after being discovered in Acorn Avenue, Giltbrook, on 24 April.
The RSPCA said the spider was "carelessly" tossed into the bin along with the broken tank it was kept in.
The woman who made the discovery said the hairy arachnid was clinging to the side of the bin bag.

The woman, who does not want to be named, said she spotted the tank in the bin when she took her dogs on to the field.
"I was curious so I had a closer look, expecting it to be a mouse, and I was very surprised to see a tarantula in there," she said.
"I went home to my husband and asked him to come and look, he couldn't believe it either.
"It's not something you expect to find in a public bin."

RSPCA inspector Teresa Potter said the charity rarely gets calls like this and so expected to find a "plastic toy" or a "piece of litter".
She took the spider to a specialist vet, who identified it as a white knee tarantula, a species from Brazil which is commonly kept as a pet.
She said: "These tarantulas live in a warm and humid environment in the wild and need the same provided in captivity, to meet their needs and keep them healthy."
A suitable home has been found for the spider.

Tarantulas always seem to come in one of three sizes -
Size of a hand
Size of a dinner plate
Size of a puppy.

OK, not saying this is weird, but was out walking the dog and startled a crimson butterfly. I mean CRIMSON. Like a Cardinal. (the bird). Trouble is, there are no crimson butterflies. Nearest thing I can find is a Cinnabar Moth, but this chap's wings were all crimson as far as I could tell for the 5-6 seconds it was in view before it got hidden in a clump of bracken. And also the moth is only supposed to be in the south of England and to fly from July to September. Any zoologists out there with an idea?

May have escaped from a butterfly zoo or a private collection.
