Adolfo Gómez Hernández, a legislator from the Morena parliamentary group, invited dancers with incense burners and two more people who sacrificed the animal into the government building on Wednesday (April 24). The first person held the bird while a woman cut its neck with a knife, catching its blood in a container.

Fellow lawmakers said they tried to block the animals from getting into the Senate. However a determined Hernández made sure the unusual ritual happened in the building.

Ana Lilia Rivera Rivera, president of the Senate Board of Directors, said in a statement: "These events were carried out under the strict individual responsibility of Senator Adolfo Gómez Hernández, who justified the action under the protection of the uses and customs of an indigenous group or community to which he expressed his self-assignment."

Hernández, from Oaxaca, justified his decision to sacrifice the bird by arguing the country's constitution indicated the practices of the native peoples should be respected.

When I worked in Samara, Russia, we had a Turkish company pouring the concrete. After every major pour, the concrete cured and the Turks sacrificed a sheep on it to bless the construction. After which the Turkish chef blessed the workforce with a selection of lamb dishes from stews to BBQ’s.
Our client was Pepsi, I don’t think their publicists were ever advised what was going on as there would have been uproar had they found out. They moaned like F*** when they found out we had a small soiree every Friday in our site office as alcohol consumption was not allowed on Pepsi property.
We solved the problem by getting the Turks to lift our office, ostensibly a large site hut, over the boundary wall and onto common land.

Will there be heads bouncing down the steps of the government buildings anytime soon?
