This is a personal request, but I have had no luck finding the truth thus far.
My Uncle, William (Bill) Allen, was Vice Consul (2 steps down from Ambassador) in Aden in 1980. At the time I was coming up to 18 months old. We had a visit, so my father tells me, from a Police Constable, who informed my dad that his brother was dead. Further information from the Foreign Office stated that, you'll love this!, "his car spun out of control and hit a tree". This was on a desert road, just after mid-day, with no other traffic about. Since then, we've had no further explanation or conjecture from the Foreign Office.
My personal theory is that my Uncle was killed by Communist terrorists - Yemen is still supposedly Communist, and was at the time virulently anti-West.
I suppose it is not a Fortean conspiracy in the truest sense, but if anyone has any information, I'd be grateful.
