Phone Weirdness

Sounds like a loan shark using strong arm tactics, Scribbles.

Either that or the Doctor Who villain has a much darker side we haven't heard of.

It sounds like a dominant master who is subjugating a 'slave' on the phone for money. They do that sometimes.

Aaaaand... you know that... how?

Ha ha, I used to know a few people who were into fetish, S & M etc. One or two were professional dominants, dominatrixes etc.

I don't really know anybody who 'moves in those circles' these days.

But would the dominated really be crying when getting this treatment? Aren't they supposed to enjoy it? This is way outside my experience, incidentally.

No idea. I've never really understood masochists. I think they're a tad illogical.

Oh my goodness! I think you might have it! There always seemed something very contrived about it! I used to wonder why you would accept the reverse charge call in the first place and then why just cry at The Master's demands rather than try and explain why you couldn't pay or whatever! It was definitely a co dependant situation with the crying person a willing victim. S&M seems about right!

I think this might qualify as phone weirdness.
A friend rang me today and mentioned that she had been speaking to a mutual friend and it was all normal till she mentioned another friend who recently died rather young.
She said after she mentioned the name the phone went dead and she saw a dark shadow move across the room. She tried to ring back the other friend but the phone was quite dead and it was awhile before the friend was able to ring her.
I spoke to this lady later on and she confirmed what had happened.

That's exactly the sort of phone weirdness we like. 8)

It's a game. The "Master" might enjoy hearing the sub cry. The sub might enjoy playing the game of being a victim on the phone. Umm...not that I'd have any experience of that, of course

OK, I'll bow to your superior knowledge. Doesn't sound like much fun, though.

An ex girlfriend is one of three sisters, the youngest of which sadly died in her 30's about seven years ago.

Both she and her other living sister confirm that a short time after the death of their sister that they were on the phone chatting and then all of a sudden, the phone conversation got filled with static. However amid the static, their deceased sister came on the line and said "I'll be alright" before fading away!

These are highly credible, decent people and I have no reason to doubt their story.

Witchy-woo

My Mother and I seem to have bit of a connection that has gone beyond coincidence so many times that we now think that we are a bit "witchy-woo"!

We live 15 miles apart and speak on the phone most days. I always ring her. I don't ring at the same time every day as I don't work the same hours every day of the week. Mum and Dad go out and about doing what they do.

They go out and the minute they are home I ring and I haven't tried to ring them before! My Dad thinks the house is rigged! It has happened so many times!

Is it possible that my Ma and me are so connected that I know when they are back?

Was talking to the same friend as the last posting yesterday as I'd just come back from being away.
The doorbell rang and I told her to answer it as she wasn't going to bother but there was noone there and noone in sight down the street either.
Wonder if someone is trying to get in touch as at 3am that morning there were 2 loud knocks on our cabin door but no footsteps going away and noone there.

No,if it had been on the balcony door though I might have been a bit freaked out as it's the same ship although not the same floor where those 2 people they never found jumped off a few weeks before.

As soon as I read your post, it sounded strangely familiar ...

I had something very similar happen with my sister many years ago. We were both living in British Columbia, Canada, but I was in Vancouver on the mainland and she was in Victoria on Vancouver Island. On several occasions, but not at the same day of the week or time of day, one or the other of us would dial the phone number of the other and mysteriously find the other person on the other end of the line -- without the phone ringing. In every instance, each of us had both decided at the exact same moment to call the other. It was always very creepy, but I also think it might have had something to do with being particuarly emotionally close at that time.

I should add that I don't know the actual mechanics of how this phone thing could happen. It just seems so crazy.

Did either of you get charged for the calls, do you know..?

Me and my mum do this regularly, often I'll pick up my phone to call or text her and it'll start ringing with her on the other end. Other times when I call her she'll pick up before the first ring is out because she was either in the process of dialling my number or right next to the house phone when it started ringing as she'd just walked in the door (phone is in the hallway).

We're very close though, and very alike. Despite living in different parts of the country I just assume that our brains are tuned to similar stations. It happens so often that I don't even think of it as being anything out of the ordinary.

I never thought to check. It was cheap, back then (almost 20 years ago), to call across the Straits, so I never had to check my phone charges. I suppose it would have been the wise thing to do, but my brain doesn't work that way!

Posting this because Mrs Cherrybomb told me to.
Last week I received two calls over the course of two days, one at midnight, the other at about 1am. both from a withheld number, installed truecaller to see if it would be able to tell me who the nuicance caller was (as it sometimes can work out who's calling from a private number and it shows the two calls as hidden number,
this wouldn't be so much of a problem, as i have a scheduled privacy mode to stop anyone buy a select few people from phoning me between 10pm and 7am. but if i leave my phone on, it still rings once at their end then hangs up and displays that i have a missed call. so for the past week i've elected to turn my phone off altogether and turn it back on when i wake up.
because i would rather not know a hidden number had called rather than know someone had phoned but not known who. (not sure of the logic, but i worry if i dont know)
this morning i received two calls one after the other at 6:55, and my blocking mode did its usual thing.
I know its probably some autodialer, but its somewhat annoying, but i'm still none the wiser as to the actual nature of the calls.

anyone else had anything like that?

Was getting random calls from a shop for some Dude, I'd explain that they had the wrong number and could they update their records.

It was only after the 10th time, when I politely said I knew where the shop was and would be happy to come around and stick their phone up the arse that they changed their records.

edit: actually this has happened to me before and I forgot about it....

The other day my mobile rang and after I answered some fellow asked if we were still on for dinner tonight.
Now as interesting as that sounded I had to tell him he had the wrong number.
One of my friends said maybe it was a deliberately given wrong number by someone who wanted to get rid of him.

I once received a call on my work mobile from a puzzled lady. She was trying to ring her friend and got me instead. I told her she must have typed the wrong number in on her phone. She was adamant that her mates number was logged on her phone and she hadnt typed it in. She rang me again by accident later in the day, she explained that she had got through to who ever it was but was now back with me.....weird. That was the last I heard of her.

My 75 year old mum received a text message last year saying "Want to talk dirty?" I told her that it was a wrong number!

As most people make a number of phone calls or texts daily nowadays, the temptation to make nuisance calls must have grown too. I used to get nuisance calls (from my neighbours, it turned out) but don't anymore. Anyone suffered a genuine example of a prankster recently (that they'd be prepared to share?). Most of this recent phone weirdness sounds like mechanical glitches or wrong numbers.

Just cuse she's old doesn't mean she'd not be up for it!

We cleaned out an elderly female relative's possessions a few years back after she had died. We knew she was dating some of the men in the sheltered home she lived in. We were a little shocked by the pornography and sex toys that we found in her cupboard. She didn't and wouldn't have given a sh*t. This was pre-internet of course, it just seemed to make her more human to me.

When I moved into my current home some years ago I was assigned a new telephone number. A few weeks after the move I began to receive calls from people who were convinced that my new number belonged to the office of a high court judge. There were only about three callers in total, if I recall correctly. I assured them that unless someone was living in the spare bedroom without my knowledge there was no judge on the premises.
