I was reading the Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits by John and Anne Spencer and at the end of a chapter on Ghosthunting there was this Quote:

An amusing but true point: it has been discovered that certain paranormal activity (in particular ESP and Psychokinesis) may be enhanced when the subjects under scrutiny have been exposed to pornographic material!

Is this true, can anyone tell me where this was discovered and how. Did the sientists deliberately show them porn, was it an accident, too many questions.

If this were true, I'd be a member of the X-men by now.
Surely that would be the XXX-men.

This summer...from Marvel comes "The XXX-Men: Unzipped" Professor XXX, Mammory Man and Bukkake Woman take on a terrifying, pulsating, oozing one-eyed monster. It's the classic struggle between good and bad. But WHO...WILL...COME...FIRST?

Could this be a reference to the experiment testing retro-psi? The subjects were monitored while being shown a series of photos, including random pornographic ones. The subjects showed significant results right before the porn showed up in the test. The idea being that sex tends to be a powerful drive, so pornography might trigger a response strong enough to measure.

I first learned about this from the Mind Hacks website, but IIRC it also turned up in an episode of Through The Wormhole, as well as other places.

This creaky old computer is too slow tonight to post any links, sorry, but maybe someone else can dig one up.

I can't locate specific citation on the Mind Hacks site, but I suspect you're referring to the Cornell University study whose late 2010 pre-publication release is discussed in this Gizmodo article:

http://gizmodo.com/5700071/predicting-the-future-with-porn

The eventual publication (2011) was in the APA's Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 100, 407-425. The article is available online at:

is that the book where at a vigil a male investigator closes his eyes and thinks pervy thoughts, and a few minutes later a female investigator reports that she is being touched up? (by invisible hands i should add)

You all dropped the ball on this one - Not a joke - A significant root cause thread that should be further
analyzed.

What makes your mind 'work'? What generates the wheels to keep spinning?

Certainly not erotica - But you can't deny there is an erotic factor in the generation of life
- And I'm going to postulate that eros is more than 'touchy feely' pleasure
- It is part of a root energy source generating biological life - And maybe even existence itself.

As I've gotten older {don't ask} I find one thing I never outgrew, no not porn, but sci-fi.
I can't get enough good sci-fi; But I was running out, seen most everything available online worth
watching - And by now I'm an entertainment junkie.

So one day watching YouTube I enter the erotic category - YouTube will not show any X rated but does
show erotic R rated - And of course I soon found porn sites showing X rated.

Now watching the world through older eyes things are not quite the same - Yes some porn is exciting
but it's not quite as exciting - I can watch it for hours and to me it's like watching an exciting sc-fi
movie. Art and excitement for its own sake - nothing more.

And what does this cause me to do? Seek some form of sexual satisfaction? - NO- I it drives me to
blog on forums, none of which have anything to do with erotica or sex.

In many Eastern philosophies the organs of generation are seen as related to an energy field
diffused throughout the body - And sexual energy of the solar plexus or root Chakra can be fed up
through the spine to the brain or Crown Chakra.

But I say it is more than just this - Erotica is a form of intelligence, an inherent creative intelligence
that any Human can channel, ether deliberately like the yogis of the East, or even accidentally
as my experience with porn indicates.

Erotic consciousness is more than sex, procreation, and pleasure - It is a creative well spring for the mind.

As far as ESP goes - It makes sense - The heightened awareness produced by sensory stimulation,
may, in those people who have some psychic power, increase and heighten that power.

So the next time someone catches you watching porn - Tell them your expanding your mind power
- Sometimes that may be true!

WARNING: If you are too excitable and are prone to an addictive personality - maybe you should not
watch porn - 'One man's medicine is another man's poison"
