was wondering if any other schools had any UL psychos (such as 'purple accie' who from my time at university found exists everywhere in the country!).

i'm an evertonian and i don't remember the purple acky thing being related to the club. plus i seem to remember the story from being very young as well (mid 80's).panderton said:Any Evertonians out there remember anything about this, or has anyone heard of Acky recently?
i know this is dodgy ground, but can you say what area the purple ackie bloke was around? is it merseyside?drjbrennan said:A few years ago I worked with an ex CID policeman who told me the whole story of Purple Ackie.
panderton said:Growing up on the edge of Merseyside, I would hear from the other kids in school about the local bogeyman, Purple Acky / Accie. The name, being unusual, stuck in my head. From tales told in the school yard, he was big bloke, possibly black (my area was mostly white and Asian), who liked to hang about the train station and approach young lads. Apparently he had a taste for muscular boys, and would ask if you liked to work out before attacking you. We all knew not to go into the station or public toilets after dark, as Purple Acky would "get you".
I'd heard stories from first hand "witnesses", who of course were lucky enough to have escaped, but felt it was all tales to scare the lads; full of all the usual bogeyman stuff, mixed in with a few lad's hang ups and fears.
It was exciting stuff to listen to, but I wrote it all off.
However, a few years later, whilst at university, I saw the name in an article in a national newspaper. The details of the article are hazy, but I believe it was over the arrest of a guy for stalking of a young football reserves player (possibly with Everton). The stalker had been known in the area as "Purple Acky". I guessed then that he had been real all along. It suprised me at the time, as I thought he was just a local thing. There was even a picture of the bogeyman beside the article if memory serves me right.
I didn't keep the paper, I don't remember which one it was, but it was only a few years ago (94-97).
As the stories of him seem to have spread over a wide area, maybe the name has become a tag for dodgy guys all over. Maybe the football stalker was living out life as an "Acky". Or maybe this was the real one.
Any Evertonians out there remember anything about this, or has anyone heard of Acky recently?
cat simon said:On the last day of the 97-98 football season, I was in my local watching Arsenal beat Everton to claim the Premiership. In this pub we get all types of people; scousers, scots, geordies, etc. Basically, everyone that hates Man Utd! What made me remember this though, is that when an Everton player called Oster (I can't think of his first name) played the ball, one of the scousers in the bar shouted "Padeophile!" every time. This went on for nearly the whole match. This player was only about 18 at the time as well! People were looking at this bloke, and only stopped when he noticed kids in the bar.
Maybe Toffeenose could throw light on this. Is it related to the above, or just Merseyside football-lore, such as the Beardsley/Dalglish's wife rumours of a few years ago.
Purple Aki, UPDATE
Purple Aki was well known in the Runcorn area as far back as I could remember.
The rumours went that he would prey on lads, forcing them into anal sex, after which he would engrave a P and an A on each arse cheak.
Several lads I knew went the gym and Aki was well known for appearing and asking to feel their muscles. These lads claimed it had happened to them.
one day on the bus on the way home from sixth form college, Aki got on my bus. My first real evidence that he was not a myth.
He was that black he was purple.
He came and sat by us all on the bus, harassing each and every one of us, asking if we went the gym.
In the end the bus driver booted him off, he didnt like this and started to punch the side of the bus.
The rumours continued and only last week he appeared on the front of our local paper.
Some of my mates who never believed that he existed suddenly sent me e-mails saying thay thought he wasnt for real.

Purple Aki, Kirby - UPDATE
Purple Acky is well known throughout Merseyside. I wonder if anyone knows about another character we knew as 'jogger'. When I was a nipper he used to jog around by our house, I grew up in Waterloo. Never muttered a word as far as I know, every time you saw him he was jogging somewhere. I have no idea where he actually lived, he wore a flat cap and a rain mack, he was out in all weathers and occasionally had a loaf of bread under his arm. As I grew up and ventured further afield it became obvious that he didn't just jog near our house and even whilst out on family trips you'd see him in some places a good 15 miles away. I'm pretty sure I've seen him in Southport. He must've been about late 40's when he first came to my attention circa 1977. He kept it up throughout my youth and probably into my late 20's, by which time he had slowed to walking pace. Haven't seem him for a good few years.
NOTE - Latest info is that he's been banged up - can anyone confirm this? - Ed.

The Legend of Purple Aki
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist, and thus it is with Purple Aki.
A figure of fear for generations of Merseyside schoolchildren, one victim was said to have been so beset by terror he gladly cast himself into the path of an oncoming train.
The stuff of urban myth and over-excitable imaginations, surely. But try telling that to the bodybuilders of St Helens . . .
PREDATOR SNARED
Six years for notorious offender who terrorised young sportsmen
A MAN described by detectives as a “predator” because of the way he terrorised the lives of more than 100 young sportsmen has been sent to prison for six years.
Akinwale Arobieke, known universally as ‘Purple Aki’, was sentenced to a six-year jail term after pleading guilty to 15 counts of harassment and a charge of intimidating a witness.
The conviction at Preston Crown Court followed an exhaustive police investigation into Arobieke, 42, from Liverpool, in which 123 young men and teenage boys, mostly from St Helens, were interviewed.
Detectives involved in the probe, codenamed ‘Operation Ice’, revealed how ‘Aki’, about 6ft 2ins tall and powerfully built, would target young men.
Most often the youngsters would be involved with gyms, colleges, and rugby league clubs, both professional and amateur, in St Helens and other rugby league heartlands in the North West.
Obsessive
Described by the parent of one of the young men targeted, as an “urban myth in the flesh”, the notorious Arobieke would often approach his victims and ask to feel their muscles.
Detective Superintendent Mike Dale said: “In his summing up, the judge referred to Arobieke harassing teenagers aged from 13 years upwards, stopping them in the street and engaging in physical contact which was obsessive and going on to take a bizarre interest in their physical and muscular development.
“Over time this has caused his victims to give up social and youth activities like rugby, gym training, and paper rounds because of repeated incidents when they have been terrorised as the result of being followed home all hours of the day and night.
“This is an outstanding example of a tenacious and professional investigation by the detectives in St Helens, in particular Detectives Kilgannon, Pennington, and Johnson, working in partnership with the force’s crimes operation unit.
Traumas
“The officers listened with compassion to the traumas expressed by the victims and gave them every possible means of support.”
At court on Monday, 31 indefinite restraining orders were placed against Arobieke, meaning that he cannot come into contact with victims or witnesses involved in the case. Arobieke has been in prison for the past two years after being convicted of a separate charge.

Purple Aki jailed
THE parents of a St Helens boy – terrorised by an obsessive and dangerous man who was jailed on Monday – have spoken exclusively to The Reporter.
The couple who wish to remain anonymous, spoke after Akinwale Arobieke – known as Purple Aki – aged 42, from Liverpool, was sentenced to six years imprisonment.
The 6ft 5 inches, 20 stone man, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of harassment and one count of witness intimidation at Preston Crown Court.
Sentencing Arobieke, Judge Slinger said: "You are a danger to young men and your behaviour is both strange and obsessive."
He added: "The sentence reflects the need to protect the public as well as to punish you for your crimes."
The case was mounted against Arobieke after 123 people – many from St Helens – were interviewed by police about his harassment of young men.
The couple said: "Many young lads in the town went through a lot of pain and suffering at the hands of this man. We wanted to let them know that they don't have to fear Purple Aki anymore – he is not above the law as he would have had them believe. We also wanted to thank all the young men who came forward to give statements, without which there would have been no case."
Their son's determination to give evidence against Arobieke forced the family into a witness protection programme.
They said: "We had a panic alarm fitted and video surveillance on the house, but we were determined not to allow this man to continue to terrify young lads."
Over a period of three years Arobieke had approached and followed young men in a sinister and persistent manner.
"He would turn up everywhere our son went and knew information about where he lived and details about us and the rest of his family. This obsessive behaviour progressively got worse and Arobieke would force our son to remote places, where he would touch his legs and arms," said the couple.
"When our son came home one time, he was on his knees and physically trembling. It was very frightening and that is when we realised we needed to act."
During the sentencing Arobieke was also subjected to an indefinite Restraining Order that means he must stay away from all the young men involved in the case, their families and home addresses.
Det Supt, Mike Dale, said: "Over the years Akinwale Arobieke has been persistent in his pursuit and harassment of a number of young men, instilling fear into them.
"We are pleased with the sentencing. Most importantly it's to the credit of the witnesses, who despite their fears and apprehensions, have remained steadfast and determined to see justice done and this man prosecuted to stop him from making other peoples' lives a misery."
Arobieke had just finished serving a 30 month prison sentence for threats to kill.

Purple Acky
There was an urban legend around Wigan, St Helens and Liverpool a few years ago about a huge black man who tried to interfere with young boys. We were all warned that if we were bad, "Purple Acky would get us!" I found out a few month ago that he's real!!!! He was arrested in 2002 for trying to fondle a boy!

This is a question reply Re: Purple Acky
Yes!
I went to college with a grat many scousers over the years, and from many parts of Merseyside, and I am happy to report that tales of Purple Acky have been told as far afield as wavertree, Crosby, Speke and over the way in Wallasey, so he must indeed be real.
Apparently "he's so black, he's purple", and also very tall...

Purple Acky
To Del Torro the arrogant...I'm from Runcorn and we used to threaten each other with the prospect of being kidnapped by Mr Acky. For some reason, the rumour was that he carved P and A on your buttocks...maybe that was just us. This was about 10 years ago though, had no idea the legend spread so far.

Reurple Acky
The purple acky thing has made it to Australia!!When i was 6(i think) I was told of Purple Acky and that if i was bad and went out after dark i would be 'gotten'.I did'nt to the shops after 3:00 until a year later.
Edit:may have been purple something else but i'm pretty sure it was purple acky.

Purple Acky!
As far as us kids were concerned, he lived in a disused railway tunnel in West Derby, Liverpool. Rumoured to have purple hair and a penchant for child-murder, we never actually saw him. Thinking about it years later, I assumed he was 'made up'. But it does appear he was an actual nutter. That's reassuring.
